yeah I have the exotic version of that skin, called the kymswarden or something like that.  Its the Long Sword skin from GW1, which was one of my favorites, so I had to pick it up out of nostalgia purposes (just like I got magmaton because it is magma's arm from GW1).

Other than that one and the standard greatsword skin, I'm really not a huge fan of most of them.  I want a sword, not a paddle.

How come, for Asura, greatswords are almost two times bigger than hammers? That's just so silly.

What's the deal with greatswords anyway? Why is everyone always using them? I blame anime

In serious anime, guns, daggers, magic artefacts, claws, fist fights are as cool as swords. Or ppl are only keen on some candy-fancy-shiny-meaningless-cute-idk-what series.

Imo problem is in scaling. There are few really good pistol or dagger skins. But why should I use them if they are too small to see them during battle or even when Im standing still, cause I hide them under light armor coat (coats and weapons hanging next to hip, that u cant see them, is driving me insane)

Secound thing, legendary skins. Something that should be "best" or high-end in terms of look. Yea greatswords (2 of them while rest of weapons have only 1 specimen lol) look stunning while staff or other casters' weapons are joke compared to greatswords. I think thats the reason everyone roll to greatsword.



Im still optimistic that they add some armor and weapons skins.
You came with gw1 skins. gw2 has no expansion or bonuses atm. And when gw1 had only few months (no faction/nightfall/eotn) skins were meh... not interesting, really few of them were worth taking. So meybe when gw2 will have more pve content added we will get skins.

Lazy design imo. There's alot of sick looking greatswords, because theres alot of surface area on the blades to work with. Most of the hammers look really generic and puny. The only thing they can really make look different is the head portion, and for some reason, they haven't really tried.

Magmaton looks pretty nice though, one of the few hammers that actually looks nice (made one randomly from MF myself)

As a hammer warrior I agree so many of the designs are too cartoonish (the rare crafted level 80 skin stinks) or look weird (Pearl Crusher is one of worst weapon skins ever).  Many of them look like a pancake on a stick.

However I confess I like the svelte hammer aesthetic on my particular  warrior.  I use the Ebonhawke skin which is pretty decent.  The Vigil hammer skin is better still but out my budget.  Nevertheless I would like to see more and better skins.

Fantasy doesn't equal unrealistic. The fact that you can throw fireballs doesn't suddenly make gravity irrelevant or the human body insensitive to cold! ;-)

Has anyone got a picture/crafted this? http://www.gw2db.com...4582-magmas-arm it looks like a reskin of other hammers in the game, so probably a similar size, but I'm curious if it is any bigger.

The best warhammers are the ones with small striking edges.

Bigger =/= better with hammers.
Bigger = more mass to swing around, resulting in more effort being used with each strike.
Bigger = slower strikes, resulting in more dodges from an opponent.
Bigger = slower strikes, resulting in more overextensions that an opponent can capitalize on.
Bigger = larger smashing area, resulting in the force being transferred over a greater area.

If you want to punch through something in a hammering fashion, you use something that can;
be swung quickly to build momentum and driving force
focuses all that force into a small area for maximum effect
doesn't wear you out.

What makes a blunt object dangerous isn't it's mass. It's the speed at which that mass is coming at you. An aluminum baseball bat could probably do more damage than that magma's arm when both wielded by the same person.

Are you sure? looks to me like the magmas arm has more lava effect (the haft in particular). The GWdb doesn't show any other hammers sharing the skin either unless I missed something.

Why are we talking about realism in a game where there are undead dragons, shapeshifters, gnomes, and magic?

The more decked out a hammer looks, the better. I'm using a Magmaton myself as it's the only skin that I like aside from vigil.

I checked the skin in the pvp locker before I ended up finding magmaton in pve.  its the same thing, unless I am entirely missing something.

No but when you have races like the Charr and Norn, who are supposedly much stronger than a human (as someone said earlier, Eir lifted a 500lb statue in the books or something) you will get radically different weapon design than reality did.  The only reason warhammers look like the linked picture was because it had to be light enough for a person in plate armor to swing with a point small enough to pierce armor.

When you can have someone throwing a 350+ lb. hammer around, suddenly you have a lot more options on how to make a deadly weapon.  There is nothing anime about it.

Also, as was already pointed out, more surface area = more space for artists to work with.  So you get more noticeable designs.

thats the Longsword design from GW1, still imo the best sword skin in GW1, there's just something about that classic clean weapon look without all the fancy horns/barnacles/jagged edges that makes it look amazing.

I see what your saying and your right. My biggest problem with the size is that they do not match the hammer skills (I'm thinking warrior here) which is big smash aoe only achievable by big hammers. The hammer in your picture could not achieve that so their realism is already off. By all means do have hammers like the armour piercing ones but the skills should match the skin imo
