1) does the guardian shouts such as holdtheline, retreat, and standyourground hit 5 ppl only or  more than 5 ppl?

2) does guardian VOR, VOJ and VOC when popped, hit 5 ppl only or more than 5 ppl? same question when VOR is traited for battle presence, does it 5 ppl only or more than 5 ppl?

3) does empowering might hit 5 ppl only or more than 5 ppl?

thanks.

I'm not sure how many people the shouts hit. I know virtues hit everybody in a pretty big AoE radius. Go into a WvW zerg and hit f2 and watch all the green numbers. I'm also not sure about empowering might, but I'm 90% positive it hits more than 5 people. I haven't used staff in a while.

Hmm it depends on radius, all mentioned skills have radius (how big i really don`t know) in WvW zergs i`m pretty sure more people then 5 get`s buffs, but it`s very hard to tell how many.
In dungeon everyone close to me has "perma" might from my crits 54% chance also return heals are crazy good if people are stacked on same place :) !

From what I've noticed only retreat has the limit. Other than that it just seems to be about the range of the skill

They all have a maximum of 5 people affected, plus yourself. Virtues on the other hand I believe hit everyone in range, but don't quote me on that. Empowering Might has a max of 5 people as well.

Unfortunately, shouts also target pets and summons, so you may end up buffing a Necromancer and all his undead friends rather than the actual players themselves around you.

thanks for the replies.

i tested it out. made a group of 5. went to a BL. shouts hit 5 ppl randomly, sometimes ppl in the group and sometimes ppl outside the group but always just 5 ppl.   i think it was the same for virtues and empower.

Virtue definitely heals everyone in a rather large radius.  I've done that stupid dragon who doesn't drop anything good many times and since allies are stationary during a lot of that fight I can say for certain I've seen 20+ heals go up on click.  It's pretty sweet really.  The others I can not confirm either way, but I'm guessing 5 allies (group or non-group including pets/etc).

I believe that only Virtue of Resolve doesn't have an upper limit (nor does the trait - Battle Presence). I've been stacked next to a teammate, popped Virtue of Justice / Virtue of Courage, and had neither one effect the teammate.

Also, Virtue of Retribution is self only. I was sad when I learned that.

Battle Presence does have a 5 person cap. You can stand in a mass of people in Lion's Arch and see how many Immune messages pop up.

I love this post.
Any test about "absolute resolution?"

I don't feel like respeccing into battle presence for a test, but I seem to recall being able to affect more than 5 people with battle presence. I'll chalk it up to faulty memory (too lazy to test)

To my knowledge, Absolute resolution cleanses the nearest 5 allies (including yourself) up to a certain range. The range is fairly short though. Maybe ~600 units?

i would also like to add a query on virtue of justice. when traited, VoJ when activated, blinds NEARBY foes. how does this work exactly?

from the description, when VoJ activated, next attack inflicts burning (instead of every 5th by guardian). does it mean that the foes who are blinded are the NEARBY foes next to the foe hit by the guardian or NEARBY foes blinded basically a short range PBAOE around the guardian? what is the range of the pbaoe?

thanks.

Justice is Blind - When activating Virtue of Justice, nearby foes are blinded.

1. Justice is Blind triggers whenever you activate the skill
2. It is a point blank aoe, with approximately 300-600 range (somewhere in there, haven't tested the exact number)
3. The blind lasts three seconds

Shouts = 5 people
Virtue = no player limit
Symbols = no player limit (limited by the size of your symbol)
Empowering might appears to hit only 5 people as well.

Symbol of wrath seem to work only on. 5 ppl + me in wvwvw.

Anyone noticed the same?

What about allowed ground and purging flames?

You can safely assume that everything only hits 5 people at a time. Abilities that hit more than 5 are the exception, rather than the rule.

if an ability hits more then 5 people, it will usually distinctly say it hits more then 5. i believe empowering acts in waves though, so the first wave might hit 5 people, and the second might hit a different group of 5, if conditions are right (depending on distance and such)

If an ability hits more than five people, it usually won't say that it hits more than five people. Rather, it will have a lack of the 'maximum targets:5' line - and even then, most of the ones missing that will only hit five people.

The only ones I can think of off the top of my head are trait:Justice is Blind, Virtue of Resolve, and the Symbols, not that all of them affect everyone inside them for some weird reason.

I've noticed against Claw of Jormag that Hallowed Ground certainly does not affect everyone inside it, as some people will get Feared and others will not, so Consecrations may be a 5-person limit. This might also be Stability being weird/bugged, though, because I've seen times when I've been under the effects of Stability and still get whacked my stuff that stability should prevent, namely Fear.
