Would like it if say...someone logs into their account for the first time after an event has taken place (that they were not present at), the cut scene plays for them then, then when they get into the world they could perhaps better understand the changes that have occurred and don't feel as if they've missed these 'one time events'. I can't help but think Anet could easily 'mark' accounts in way that tells their end whether or not that account has viewed these events or not and then act accordingly.
Course, this sort of thing would only work with a new cut scene only and not some real-time event that requires player interaction.

I agree, but I think it would fit storyline wise with an NPC at the location that "explaines what happened" Back in GW1 the HoM let you re-view cinimatics, I see no reason they cant have a few historians of story tellers at the "one-time" events

I wonder if we'll get to see Bubbles or something at the event or something. I need to research that area more, but all the mentions of Tengu have me really interested. I wonder if the first expansion will introduce them as a playable race! That's probably just wishful thinking, though.

That's my interpretation of it. Something more like Halloween maybe. I mean, technically speaking, if Halloween is different next year then the whole of the Halloween chain was a 'one-time event'.

It is fairly possible than once DSD is defeated in new game expansion, the naval route to Cantha will be open again for adventurers, giving us a second expansion set in Cantha and introducing a new race - Tengu.

I love the cutscenes, if they were on weekends not weekdays. They're fairly unique and some of them are well-polished (like the Mad King cutscene, for the most part). A one-time event chain would still be kind of unfortunate... I have to admit that missing something you could participate in seems worse than missing something that gets uploaded to YouTube five billion times.

What I'm kind of confused about is exactly what this update means. It automatically kicks you to 80 and gets harder and harder the deeper into the area you get... But how is that a vacation? What are we going to find in this area?

Divinity's Reach actually does have a Canthan population. Also, Canthan is one of the ancestry choices in the Human Sister plotline. So yeah, there are Canthan descendants around who probably still celebrate some of the traditions of their original homelands.

Edit: Actually, it does look like it's gone for now, as per Regina's follow-up post in the same thread:
It's a shame really.
Problem is, if they would actually not replace the lion, they should remove the NPC's surrounding the area as they talk about building the lion as if it's still there!

From Colin's interview, the bottom of the dungeon is supposed to have some unique rewards we haven't seen before. I don't know if they'll be doing rewards like existing dungeons.

The whole vacation thing is part of the story of this update, where they were working on it being some sort of resort or something like that (complete with advertising) and it goes horribly wrong when some evil is discovered there...
...at least, that's what I get.

Then again, the Great Collapse is where the Canthan district used to be. Depending on how "recently" the collapse happened, the Canthan population of DR is largely displaced, and doesn't have resources to throw a big party. I guess, if they really wanted to, they could say that Queen Jenna decided to throw a city wide Canthan New Year celebration as a way of honoring the people who suffered from the Collapse.
It's odd, really, that you don't see more signs around the city that a sixth of its population recently lost their homes. Perhaps this will figure prominently with an update down the road.

Is this now found in-game also? If so, any idea where? I haven't been able to check yet, personally.

Im just gonna quote myself since no one seems to give any attention to my post.
If we look carefully at the picture of the boss we can see the shark is not risen, and so far i havent seen almost any non risen sharks outside LA. And for the screenshots we have from lost shores the place look rather tropical. Plus imo the sign shadow looks like the face of that mob, somehow.
