It's new.  They posted teasers on Twitter and Facebook.  Started a thread on this with translation here: http://www.guildwars...s-teaser-image/

The cut scene type of one time 'event' does kinda blow, though I know they would always try to do them at peak times for most players.  But I can't help but think that it could also be done in a way that would allow everyone to experience these things.

Would like it if say...someone logs into their account for the first time after an event has taken place (that they were not present at), the cut scene plays for them then, then when they get into the world they could perhaps better understand the changes that have occurred and don't feel as if they've missed these 'one time events'.  I can't help but think Anet could easily 'mark' accounts in way that tells their end whether or not that account has viewed these events or not and then act accordingly.

Course, this sort of thing would only work with a new cut scene only and not some real-time event that requires player interaction.

I agree, but I think it would fit storyline wise with an NPC at the location that "explaines what happened"  Back in GW1 the HoM let you re-view cinimatics, I see no reason they cant have a few historians of story tellers at the "one-time" events

since people are still working under the assumption that those ship fragments are Canthan: It's not. it's Asuran.

I like the one-time events... but they need to start scheduling them on weekends instead of in the middle of the week. Luckily if the update is for sure on the 15th I'll be home in time for it, but I'd rather not spend that time playing around, I'd rather be working on the work I have to get done. But if it's just a cut-scene or something, it wouldn't be as bad to miss it.

I wonder if we'll get to see Bubbles or something at the event or something. I need to research that area more, but all the mentions of Tengu have me really interested. I wonder if the first expansion will introduce them as a playable race! That's probably just wishful thinking, though.

Colin said in the interview, that the one time event would happen over the weekend, so it's not a 1 time cutscene like it was for the Mad King.

Possibly a 1 time event chain.

That's my interpretation of it. Something more like Halloween maybe. I mean, technically speaking, if Halloween is different next year then the whole of the Halloween chain was a 'one-time event'.

Not sure one time stuff is a good thing for many reasons, alot of players will miss out, the servers will get really bogged down, the amount of players spamming 1 around you will be crazy and probably not enjoyable.

Guess will see how it goes.

And yes, as mentioned before, pleeease no more Risen. I'm tired of hearing "Death, good" >.<

Quoting myself to cut on speculation and for your own benefit:

This update will introduce Bubbles, the Deep Sea Dragon (elder dragon), as well as give some information on the release of third book by Ree Soesbee, Sea of Sorrows. Given how about 30% of explorable areas is underwater, it is only logical to release a water-oriented game update as soon as possible, to focus on the underwater part of the game which is apparently underwhelming (boring weapons, no separate set of underwater traits, underwater combat mechanics themselves, little monster variety etc.). No idea whether the update will be free, a cash shop DLC (bought with gems) or regular cash-only game expansion, but I'm fairly certain the book will hit somewhere in May next year, while the update will land in late autumn, possibly as early as late september if lucky.

It is fairly possible than once DSD is defeated in new game expansion, the naval route to Cantha will be open again for adventurers, giving us a second expansion set in Cantha and introducing a new race - Tengu.

Whew, I love me some cutscenes. I should probably actually watch or listen to Colin's interview...

I love the cutscenes, if they were on weekends not weekdays. They're fairly unique and some of them are well-polished (like the Mad King cutscene, for the most part). A one-time event chain would still be kind of unfortunate... I have to admit that missing something you could participate in seems worse than missing something that gets uploaded to YouTube five billion times.

I think it's fairly safe to assume that this will have something to do with the DSD. Beached whales, monstrous crabs... plus the...
Spoiler
I did see the post up a few that pointed out that the ships looked Asuran, but that doesn't really make sense because of the location and what direction it seems they came from.

What I'm kind of confused about is exactly what this update means. It automatically kicks you to 80 and gets harder and harder the deeper into the area you get... But how is that a vacation? What are we going to find in this area?

...and maybe Canthan New Year in February (which would require access to Cantha before then otherwise it won't make sense, unless Tyria for whatever reason has a large population of Canthans) we can't assume we're getting monthly content.

Divinity's Reach actually does have a Canthan population. Also, Canthan is one of the ancestry choices in the Human Sister plotline. So yeah, there are Canthan descendants around who probably still celebrate some of the traditions of their original homelands.

I wonder if that wasn't just a slight slip-up, because earlier in the forums, game designer Josh Foreman said this:

Edit: Actually, it does look like it's gone for now, as per Regina's follow-up post in the same thread:

It's a shame really.

Problem is, if they would actually not replace the lion, they should remove the NPC's surrounding the area as they talk about building the lion as if it's still there!

From Colin's interview, the bottom of the dungeon is supposed to have some unique rewards we haven't seen before.  I don't know if they'll be doing rewards like existing dungeons.

The whole vacation thing is part of the story of this update, where they were working on it being some sort of resort or something like that (complete with advertising) and it goes horribly wrong when some evil is discovered there...

...at least, that's what I get.

Then again, the Great Collapse is where the Canthan district used to be.  Depending on how "recently" the collapse happened, the Canthan population of DR is largely displaced, and doesn't have resources to throw a big party.  I guess, if they really wanted to, they could say that Queen Jenna decided to throw a city wide Canthan New Year celebration as a way of honoring the people who suffered from the Collapse.

It's odd, really, that you don't see more signs around the city that a sixth of its population recently lost their homes.  Perhaps this will figure prominently with an update down the road.

ArenaNet released this image on Facebook (wiki link, BTW): http://wiki.guildwar...ster_Poster.jpg

Is this now found in-game also?  If so, any idea where?  I haven't been able to check yet, personally.

Im just gonna quote myself since no one seems to give any attention to my post.

If we look carefully at the picture of the boss we can see the shark is not risen, and so far i havent seen almost any non risen sharks outside LA. And for the screenshots we have from lost shores the place look rather tropical. Plus imo the sign shadow looks like the face of that mob, somehow.

I can't start a new topic for this but this morning Massively has posted some info about the Lost Shores and there's some interesting tidbits in there including a new race of enemy, sPvP map and a new grade of armour.  On phone so I can't format it nicer than this (sorry).  http://massively.joy...content-primer/
