These glass cannon backstab builds will fade away as fast as the warrior 100 blades builds did. They do great vs bad players and get wrecked by people who know how to counter them.

I can't even remember the last time I lost to a 100 blades warrior or backstab thief.

Pretty generic backstab glass cannon pop everything and 1-shot someone build.

Remember folks, if you even so much as complain about this build and thieves in general, you just need to L2P.

This build is all skill.

3 shot. The build is designed around 3 hitting people, not 1 hit.
I don't think anyone anywhere has ever claimed this build requires much skill to use.

What's everyone's favorite way to counter these builds as a thief?

I run a condi dmg D/D build - keep SB and get the reticle on infiltrators arrow ready.  Soon as I see them pop up (you have to time this really well) I'll hit IArrow, followed by disabling shot.  Then will swap weaps, start casting caltrops into steal to get on top of them, spam 2-3 DBs and GTFO.

1.You dont see me pop up at 50% of the time.
2.I kill u in 1.5sec when u dont react. (U dont react if u dont see me ;) )
3.I dont got escape skills? Shadow step >shadow refuge > SB ?? If I fail a combo I can escape easy.

U can kill bad thief with your build, yes

Withdraw / SS if I don't see you coming soon as you pop up.  At this point in the game I always keep my eyes open, especially since I'm in WvWvW 99% of the time these days and there's a billion BS thieves running around.  I'm sorry but the only players you're killing with a BS build are other bads and/or players with tunnel vision.  Most of the time these BS thieves will bail (in the fashion you described above) soon as their combo fails or are dumb enough to stick around and fight. Sure, I've gotten gimped by that build when not paying attention but then it wouldn't be totally viable, would it?

First of all, following post has no intention to insult anyone, it's not made in any ill manner.
I've been playing thief since the first day, currently ranking lvl 30 on Desolation EU as a member of core tournament group in my guild. (H.O.P.E - harbringers of peace)

1."Hmm, this looks interesting." - looks at the post title.
2.Looks at the intro screen on youtube.
3.Notices - Rank 11 ; "MY BUILD!(srsly, your build?!) ; missing additional 5 pts for increased initiative in Trickery (essentially means if you miss 1-2 C'n'D you cant burst, get initiative starved quickly.) ; notices, you dont adapt to ini regain via Roll for initiative just in case you get denied on your opener  ; notices you dont pre-cast C'n'D to steal -.-' (at least you should be able to do that on target dummies.)
4.Using shadowstep to advance to the target - usually a bad move unless ur confident that you are going to kill the target. Try using that to cure conditions or as a evasive manuver only. Shadowstep has an opening application true, but much more usefull to get out of combat or to cure conditions.
5.I'm curious how do you use Shadow Refuge - do you use it as an escape mechanic, or rather use it to ensure next backstab?
6.Have you played any tournaments so far?
7. build reccomendation - you might find usefull to reinvest 5 points from first trait tree to Trickery for that exstra static initiative. also if you get into clutch position it might be wise to save steal for initiative regain. For example, not opening with steal rather open with shadow refuge for that long stealth into fully gimped backstab and save steal for teamfight - prioritizing the target that is positioned outside AoE killzone.
8.Elite skill - using daggerstorm is good against ranged opponents and to apply area cripple. Try using Thieves guild, the have much more dueling potential and utility due to smokescreen and scorpion wire your elite provides. Not to mention that thieves using power crit build hit really hard.
9. In teamplay use "call target" function after you scout their resiliance in combat. Call target on the squishiest target to inform your team of your focus (Most of the time, if your party sees your calling target they will insta-jump on it, effective way of reducing their numbers in teamfights.
10. Use Shortbow to "soften" the targets before engaging on them. Cluster Bomb is an amazing skill! dont disperse it. (get on the ledge when teamfighting, the AoE of the SB and the clusterbomb paired with Fire sigil will make up for some amazing teamfighting presence, not to mention amazing Disabling Shot that will get you out of some very hairy situations. (You see a warrior rushing to you, you know he's gonna try to combo you - use disabling shot to evade and cripple him.)

- There is alot more to mantion, and if you find yourself in need of a few more tips n tricks. hook me up at Desolation EU - Ace of Hidden Mist

Cheers!

A few things I disagree with in this build. I myself am a experience backstabbing thief.
Dancing > Basilisk venom. Dancing has so much more useful than venom. All venom is, is a quick one second stun on one target. That's all it's good for. Dancing is a great getaway ability. It's GREAT for finishing a downed opponent when its a 2v1. Just pop it on a downed opponent and his ally can't help him. It helps immensely when fighting rangers or engineers, it also stops the guardian's greatsword twirling attack.
Do not use assasin's signet. That's putting all your eggs in one basket for a unneeded damage increase. Backstab is powerful with only a five second cooldown. It's also not our only attack. Take an additional stealth, shadowstep, condition removal, shadow refuge. Anything. Assassin's signet is just a thief who has no skill and has to finish an opponent in one attack.
People complaining backstab builds are easy to take down and it's a skillless build are rather foolish. It's skill vs skill in my opinion a well balanced game. If they build like the OP suggested it is easy to take down because they aren't using any defensive abilities and I highly recommend not doing that. Every single class has a answer to being backstabbed that can be activated in a fraction of a second. After that the thief has to manage his dodges and stealth to maintain the upper hand. If you think it's super easy then go to WvW and take on 2v1, 3v1, even 4v1 and not die.
Also I recommend 25/30/0/15/0. The extra dodge from acrobatics helps immensely when it comes to survival and vigor on healing also helps immensely.
