I have found amusing the number of people bitching (not necessarily in this thread) about the RNG element of getting a precursor dropped. Did none of these people play GW1? Am I remembering a different game?
Back then, RNG was ALL you had. If you wanted a R9 15^50 uninscribable Crystalline Sword (one of the rarest items), you were going to pay out the ass for it. The amount of money you had to spend to get one of those was immense, and definitely not achievable in a couple of months of playing the game. That system worked for 7+ years. There was no crafting, it was all RNG.
Current system is 100% fine. I don't want to see everyone walking around with a legendary. Do I want one? Yes, but I understand its going to be a long path to get there and I'm fine with that.
You're absolutely wrong. I sold 2 of them, R9 15^50 crystalline swords, making me uberrich. Why? Because noone (until that idiot posted on guru the guide) knew there was a big chest on snake's dance where, running a bit and killing a few mobs, was free to open. 40% was a crystalline of various rarity. Just a matter of rinse repeat.

And no, wasn't an exploit. Was just a secret chest, removed when went so popular to throw crystalline sword to the noobiest and who paid a runner, group farming it.

And just so you know, the actual system is a pure gamble ( and truly behave like a slot machine attempting a jackpot), worst than RNG. At least on gw1, farming, i had 2 Black dye Obsidian armor and all best weapons possible during prophecies until the next expansion and 55 was killed. (and i left following the massleaving)

And yes, i was a great player too. I was worthy to wear both Obsidian. Like i'm worthy to wear my arah fullset.
Not a cheater/exploiter abusing of 65 weapons, expecially the famous one throwing precursors on shot
I just didn't even play the Mystic forge attempting it, scared to be banned, and didn't felt so worthy to wield one cheating
