5g each? Wat? I do mine in 1-2 gold ;)
In any case you can have the money for crafting in like an hour or so.

Yea I just bought everything straight from TP without putting buying orders or so, and I maxed all of those from like 0-25 to 400 in less than 1 hour/profession.

I have found amusing the number of people bitching (not necessarily in this thread) about the RNG element of getting a precursor dropped. Did none of these people play GW1? Am I remembering a different game?

Back then, RNG was ALL you had. If you wanted a R9 15^50 uninscribable Crystalline Sword (one of the rarest items), you were going to pay out the ass for it. The amount of money you had to spend to get one of those was immense, and definitely not achievable in a couple of months of playing the game. That system worked for 7+ years. There was no crafting, it was all RNG.

Current system is 100% fine. I don't want to see everyone walking around with a legendary. Do I want one? Yes, but I understand its going to be a long path to get there and I'm fine with that.
You're absolutely wrong. I sold 2 of them, R9 15^50 crystalline swords, making me uberrich. Why? Because noone (until that idiot posted on guru the guide) knew there was a big chest on snake's dance where, running a bit and killing a few mobs, was free to open. 40% was a crystalline of various rarity. Just a matter of rinse repeat. ;) And no, wasn't an exploit. Was just a secret chest, removed when went so popular to throw crystalline sword to the noobiest and who paid a runner, group farming it.
And just so you know, the actual system is a pure gamble ( and truly behave like a slot machine attempting a jackpot), worst than RNG. At least on gw1, farming, i had 2 Black dye Obsidian armor and all best weapons possible during prophecies until the next expansion and 55 was killed. (and i left following the massleaving) ;)
And yes, i was a great player too. I was worthy to wear both Obsidian. Like i'm worthy to wear my arah fullset.
Not a cheater/exploiter abusing of 65 weapons, expecially the famous one throwing precursors on shot
I just didn't even play the Mystic forge attempting it, scared to be banned, and didn't felt so worthy to wield one cheating

40% chance is still RNG (random nuimber generator). To get one with the exact stats you wanted was even harder to find. This secret chest obviously didn't flood the market with Crystalline swords. My point still stands, if you wanted one, you were going to pay out the ass for it (hence you getting "uberrich"). Supply was still <<<<< demand. Your proof that GW1 wasn't basically ALL RNG is one chest that got fixed/removed?

Nice try

I throw that 40% just to not be exageratted writing the real drop rate :P  I didn't believe who told me about this chest, i runned it, first attempt, gold random stuff. Meh. Tried again, crystalline sword. Tried again, crystalline. Again, crystalline. Do i need to continue?
The guy who told me was farming them to get the valuable ones, selling others to merchs because shitty. And yes, smart enough to know it was going to be suspect an oversupply. Better keep the community asleep being endless rich.
If you read my post, i said gw1 was a grindbased game. Insiting a bit, you was getting everything. Having fun, enjoying your attempts against that boss. So yes, RNG from a grindbased game is expected, a boss can and cannot drop to you the green weapon, or not drop at all.  GW2 is just gamble and grind. Rest is a nonexistent droprate of exotics from chests/mobs. Let's not mention get a precursor from a risen, one in a million

If you are deliberately limiting yourself to .1% of the game, then only do that form of content and complain about grinding... that seems to me the problem.
0.1%?

More like 0.001% of the game.

This doesn't change my argument whatsoever. Crystalline swords were some of the rarest swords in existence throughout GW1 history. There may have been a brief period of time where there was an easy way to get them, but you said yourself that it was fixed.

The market wasn't oversaturated with perfect Crystalline swords (they became easier to get when they were inscribable), but the fact remains, for the majority of people, they were as hard or harder to get as legendaries in this game. You can replace Crystalline skin with many rare skins (Magma shields before the introduction of Nightfall, etc.).

Never heard of anyone who took 800 hours to get a crystalline sword, not even a perfect one. Just admit the grind and RNG involved in getting a legendary is absurd. You know it is, everyone does. People who do it are just addicted to the game, hence spending more than half of their life in the past two months trying to get shinier pixels. You have any idea of how sad and pathetic this is?

Why does it have to be something you get in 2 months? It's a lot of hours, who cares? So what if not everyone can get it. To me, that's the entire point.

Well as i can see it now Anet also thought the amount you had to pay to get the pre weapon was insane. So i believe the increased the droprate and i can see the prices dropping on TP beceause 400 gold for a pre weapon was getting out off hand if you ask me somewhere between 100 and 200 seems to be enough. And is still not easy to get but that is the whole point ofc.

I paid 13g for Howl last night. I looked at several cheap legendaries and normally I will have the mats for this one without farming someday.
It's a longterm goal for me, don't really care about the legendary looks, but the completionist in me want's to have that legendary chest on character login :)

None of the legendaries appeal to me enough so I'm just trying to save enough money so that i'll have a slight chance of being able to afford a new one when released. I'd probably go for the predator if I could but even then I think there are exotic rifle skins I prefer, despite the lack of plasma.

If its absurd, its because it was designed to take WAY longer than the community gives it credit for. Think about it, nearly everything required for a legendary (Badges of Honor, a mountain of karma, exploration, dungeon tokens, money, even luck to some degree) is just a matter of time if you play the game long enough.

Even a 400g precursor isn't that far out of reach unless you want it now—after all, how much money can you make while farming a million karma?

Do you really care enough about how "sad and pathetic" they are that you have such a strong opinion on how someone else is choosing to spend their time?

I have not given up, but I'm not in a rush.  It isn't on my priority list =).

Hopefully by just playing how I like to play the game will eventually give the materials/karma/gold needed to create one.  But if it doesn't, oh well.

Well I've stopped worrying about getting a legendary since I learned that Anet has nerfed Plinx and made resource nodes reset daily now. I'll get it one day but I'm not going to stress about it at this point.

Legendaries at this point are reserved only for the most dedicated of poop-sockers. Plus only a few of them look worth it; there are plenty of more attainable weapons to get from the Mystic Forge.

Not really given up on it, but not all that interested in getting legendaries in their current state. Just seems like a waste of time to get 1 weapon I can use on only 1 character and doesn't give me better stats when I could spend time and money on outfitting all my 8 characters. Maybe once legendaries will require more... legendary deeds than just RNG and hoarding money I'll consider shooting for one...
Pretty much this. I have a few friends who either have their legendary, or they have the pre cursor, and the one who said he has it said in hindsight it probably wasn't worth it, just something to show off. You pretty much have to bore yourself to death farming (if farming is boring) and then luck up on the precursor and clovers and other stuff. It just started to feel more like a bother to get a legendary than fun. If I'm getting frustrated over something that was originally supposed to be fun, and I see no point to it later on, most times I'll stop. Legendary doesn't do anything to help yourself skill wise, and the animations aren't all that great anyways.

During prophecies, near the end, a few weeks before they destroyed with a patch the 55solofarm, we was next to factions. No, we was smart enough to sell to merch any crappy crystalline not worthy, just to keep the drop credible as uberrare like someone wrote. Sometimes you saw some cheap version sold with horrible stats, they was pvpers who got one from final chest winning with his group. We others ( a tiny group of selected smart players) played it properly. Sadly, one of them was so idiot to share info with that retard who posted an entire guide with picture and path to go there and how to make it fast too, 48 hours later the chest was removed.

Have you tried doing the WvW jumping puzzles? they give a hefty number of badges and can be done once a day. If your world is doing well sometimes mesmer will even make portal chains to bring their allies straight to the chest.

This topic is funny since I started with 4G late november when I set out to get a legendary. I learned to play the TP during december, and pvp'd on the TP like crazy during jan/feb. Got my Juggernaut today, having bought every purchasable piece of it, and with ~300G left to spare. Shoutouts to all the poverty monsters.

Yup, that's where I got all of the badges for my legendary - jump puzzles with my guild.

I finished mine this week (Kudzu), it took me about 2 months from when I started to when I finished. Of course I had about 200g banked up when I did start that I was planning on spending on t3 armors, but even so - they aren't impossible. They just seem like it when you go "okay I want this now". A better attitude is "I'll have this at some point in the not so far future".

I happen to play Guardian and Mesmer, felt that the respective shiny weapons (Foefires and Mists) were much better looking and added to their aesthetics a lot more than the legendaries.

I also have an Asura Necro, that is so hard to find a good legendary for.

I spend 1000-1500 hours per legendary....other guys spends 150 euro to gold sellers for one or a crap ton on his credit card for gems to gold and buys one off trading post.....kinda makes me want to not even bother....and you would not believe the amount of people who buy gold from both sellers and gems in this game....Anet made the biggest mistake ever with legendarys...should of been account bount or soulbound on aquire. Game has turned cheap, easy and casual only friendly...facebook and angry birds MMO's here we come!!

Since there's not really a skin that says WOW you must get this! I'm not really worrying about it. If there was I'm sure I'd be motivated to go get one. For me personally the time vs reward isn't worth the effort for something that just looks OK. Since my main is a Mesmer none of the legendries really shout 'Mesmer' and either seem to be for melee classes or ele's

I don't play GW2 to get legendary weapons anyway, I play to go out and kill monsters, jump over waterfalls, chat with other gamers, and explore maps while dodging centaur arrows, so if one falls in my lap then fine, if not, who gives a flying &(*&()

After I've given up already, I've changed my mind a bit now. If i ever happen to get a precursor, I'll probably make Bolt for my mesmer. Big "if" though, since precursors aren't exactly common drops^^

Maybe when (if they ever) implement the scavenger hunt, I'll get one, but that's a different story. Not exactly saving for anything, I just created "Vision of the Mists", so I already have a nice GS and if I get the gold and mats, I'll probably get another nice looking weapon for one of my characters. At the moment I'm more interested to proceed in fractals, than in boring grinding for anything.

Very much the same for me really. Main is a warrior and I love playing shield/axe most, both of these legendaries are simply far too underwhelming for me to even consider spending that ridiculous amount of gold on them. Currently just hoping there's new legendaries on the way that will hopefully also be more visually appealing to me.
