I dunno why I do this myself, it just feels like the character is incomplete without it plus it's a nice way to level and make some cash.

Is this dumb? Does anyone else do this? Am I wasting my time?

i dont think so, i do the same thing, before i move on i complete all the stuff for the map. Besides the way the leveling is set up u could probably get to lvl 80 just from doing events in lvl 1-15 map

Dear lord that is an average of 14 hours per day since the game released.

Luminous beings are we, not this crude matter.

I already have my 8 characters created the first day, but play so much WvW that not even completed the story of even one, even less map completion. I suppose, some day in the future I will have something similar to that screenshots.

i do 100% for the zone i am on, when lvling alts, even if i did that zone before on another toon. most of the time the items are lousy, but the transmute stones are nice, the exp is nice. not just the exp from the 100%, but from looking at the vistas, and finding points of interest. all those little things add up and if you are running around the zone anyway doing events and hearts, it doesnt hurt to get them aswell.

but i would never go for 100% world completion on more than 1 toon, that would be crazy.

I think that I am going for 100% PvE map completion on every single character, but I will most likely skip WvW exploration as long as I need more gifts of exploration, which won't happen any time soon (they'd even need to create new legendary weapon models for that).

I want World Completion but I don't want to do it. It's very low on my list of priorities. There's many zones I've never even been to though I have 2 80's

All my characters are male norn that look exactly the same. In the end, guys having a hot ass beat out being a unique snowflake.

On-topic:
I am still not a fan of world completion, eversince I tried it to finish some areas on my guys and then, after a few days of doing shit I didn't like (it's like every areas has to have a few activities that are worse than Hitler) I always ended up with a bugged skillpoint challenge and I couldn't even complete the map.
Sure, those bugged things seem to be resolved now, but I still get a bad taste in my mouth when I just try to think of them.

I do this in the zones I am leveling in and most likely will get it in every zone but I am not sure I will get it in the wvw areas.  I do have a 100% charcter but the trouble with getting it in wvw to me just isnt worth it.

Still feel that adding these PvE type elements to the wvw zone was a mistake and maybe in the future Anet will change it that wvw things are not included in 100%.

It's just a matter of preference. I got to 81% on one character and then found out it's not really what I liked, especially the hidden poi's drive me nuts sometimes. And I don't know if the "discovery star" can be toggled off?

I feel the same way!
I've got 3 toons that have done most of the starter areas and 2 of them have done a good chunk of midrange areas too.

I can say i'm still far from bored with it, apart from the quests I found boring to begin with (like playing a serving girl at the charr festival, BAH).

Now if legendaries were my thing I'd totally be golden, but I think the explorable gifts will go to waste on me...

I'll go for 100% map completion on two of my main characters. Already got 100% on one, and just over 50% on the other, been slacking off on him. :D I don't think I'll ever go for 100% map completion on my side characters, but I'll probably complete a few zones with them anyway.

i didnt even get my first 100%. I find the contents for each map extremely repetitive and i hated that. So what i do is, i do my irregular ori farm, since i have completed my 'ingame goals', and sometimes just login, and then logout.

But i know this will change once lost shores is out x.x

I deliberately am holding off the 100% completion. I'd rather still be 'on the journey' than to have 'reached my destination' in this game.

It enables me to still enjoy a particular area, even if I've been there 10 times before because there will always be one more POI to find or heart to fill. Even when I've completed an area for 100% I still enjoy playing in that area, because I never set foot into that map with that checklist mentality you need to get world completion.

I've never understood why people feel the need to gather achievements, or trophies, or whatever shape the devs are trying to give their 'replay value' of a game.

This kind of replay value - 100% map completion is a part of it - really adds nothing to the game for me.

It's all personal. But think about it. What is the point of having a gold star next to your name? What is the point of having any number of achievements or having them all?

There is none but your own motivation. There is no reward for doing it. Your game doesn't change because of it. Your character doesn't get any stronger from it. And I don't see the fun in running to dots on a map either.

Pointless.

I did not bother with map completion on my first 80.  I only did wvw with her.  Now I'm looking for an easy  mode play time to relax, so I'm leveling a ranger, and stopping to smell the flowers.  All of them.  I'm going for map completion on her.  It's easy and enjoyable because even though I play almost every day, there's a ton of content in this game I haven't even seen because I didn't pve with my engineer.

Having said that, I believe the only reason I would do that again on a different toon is if I was going for a legendary weapon.  For some people, part of the enjoyment of a game and to feel a full investment in a character, is to complete every available achievement, and I understand that, even if I don't do that myself.

I love that they included the wvw zones in the map completion.  It's a small percentage of what you need, and you could get almost all of the points without actually fighting much.  Over the course of a few weeks, if you zoned into Eternal Battlegrounds just once a day and went to all the spots your server owns at that point, you'd probably get them all.  The skill challenges might be the only tough thing.

So you've done ALL the Charr lands? All that brown, wasted land with nothing but Charr and Separatist killing with actual landmarks few and far between? "Hey! There's Piken! There's where the wall was! There's the searing's brazier! And now for 6 areas of BROWN!"

Actually it gives you two Gifts of Exploration that you can use to craft legendary weapons. So there is a reward for doing it. And like you said, "It's all personal." I do it because I personally want Twilight.

I am like you.  I plan to do 100% completion on all characters but I'm taking my time.  I have one level 80 ranger and then the rest are still leveling.

I'm an explorer at heart, so getting 100% on all my characters certainly is a goal, but it's not a priority. I'll get there, eventually.

I feel the same but I don't plan to get 100% completion on all of my characters. I'm just going to live with the fact that the characters will feel 'incomplete' for me.

Kind of interesting -- I'm currently doing 100% with my girlfriend and it's a blast, but I just enjoy seeing all the content. Grinding is very dull for us, but experiencing new content is it's own kind of reward, so I guess it depends on what your idea of reward is. I also have a bit of a completionist streak, so I'll probably do this on my next character as well.

Strangely enough, we've both hit 80, and are only at 48% (granted we haven't bothered to complete three of the main cities,) but we try to clear one low level area or half a larger one (currently doing Malchor's) together about four evenings a week. Super fun. We also almost always get our dailies just by clearing content, which is great as well.
