Today i've been playing with my guardian and while trying to find a POI i found this portal which is unreachable and while looking at world map it leads to an area that is inaccesible atm.

Which area do you think it will connect to?
An area that is from gw1 or a new area for gw2?

Opinions :)

No, tha'ts not it. The new map coming this month is an island and it'll be accesible from an Asura gate in LA.

I've seen that before too, methinks it's just there for future content updates or expansions. There other places where it looks like it will take you to another zone but is just blocked - like in Sparklfy Fen and Caledon Forest.

Where is that located? If you mind me asking?

Looking at a map of Brisban... there is nothing on the other side... yet. But it makes me wonder if they are planning to expand further into Maguuma Jungle in the near future.

I noticed the same thing a few days ago too.  We were looking for a way up there and eventually realised it doesn't connect anywhere on the map, but leads directly into the Maguuma Jungle.  I'd guess they just put it there as a tease, since it's obvious they'll eventually add more areas like the Maguuma Jungle around Tyria.

That just goes to fort trinity, if you're a priory member and have progressed your story far enough the gate guard will let you through. The other orders should have something similar.

There are tons of hallways, caves, portals on the map that lead nowhere. This is for future updates/expansions, we will likely see tons of new zones eventually.

I love how they think far ahead this time!
Will prevent stuff like in GW1 where some connections are really weird.

I remember that portal the OP mentions being brought up in Beta.

They have definately allowed for paths/access to future areas all around the map. There's a defined path in the far SE corner of Mount Maelstrom map that goes from a sylvari camp and is barricaded atm too.

Posted this about 1 week ago on GW2 Forums. I think it's for a zone soon opening.

im realy surprised it wasn't already talked to death ive seen it's not hidden nor on a place not being walked by much
and it's not that it's the only place seems like it will bring us to an adjucent map, so i guess Anet already thought of places (maybe even started working on them) that we we will see in updates

The GW1 connections were mostly very good - until Eye of the North, where they just couldn't be bothered to put zones together properly, leaving it so that there's a visible tunnel through a thick wall on the map (but not always visible when you're standing there at a portal!) with the portals on each end.  We, of course, have many of those in GW2 (especially bad is the Diessa Gate in the Black Citadel - they couldn't even be bothered to add artwork to the map so that you can see the tunnel that *MUST* be there that takes a sharp turn west just beyond the gate, then north after a while to reach its exit point in Diessa Plateau), which is just another sign of ArenaNet's seeming indifference to the game's polish...

Yeah that portal was reachable in Beta but it didn't go anywhere.

Indeed they do - there are three Asura gates in Fort Trinity that lead to Durmand Priory, Vigil Keep and the Chantry of Secrets. Useful for saving a few silver once you've progressed your story that far :)

What bothers me about the asura portals in the orders is their one way nature. It's probably a design limitation.

Spoiler

That bothers me, too, but I can't see why it would be a design limitation. The dialog of the guard in Ft. Trinity changes when the gates are available to ask you for credentials. I see no reason why the guards in each Order couldn't do the same. The qualifications should be exactly the same on both ends, because there is no way to use an Order gate without also being qualified to access the Ft. Trinity gates.

I'm not really talking about the physical connections, more about how they retconned some stuff to make it fit.
At this time in GW2 they really seem to have thought about lots of stuff already (the empty portals in LA, the closed gate south of ebonhawke, the shown portal in this thread,..)

I was really just guessing. I should have used the word maybe instead of probably. That's what I get for posting past my bedtime.
