Problem with having limits on number of siege weapons
#1
Posted 12 November 2012 - 02:12 PM
This is to report a problem that exist in WvW currently.
It appears that the number of siege weapons is limited per borderland per server (~120 or so). This is a screenshot taken just now in SBI borderlands of random arrowcarts placed around Titanpaw. These weapons are impossible to get rid of since they can only be accessed from the Citadel. This thread is not to accuse anybody from JQ nor BG, but it is to show everyone that there is a problem regarding the matter.
When a spy (I'll just call him a spy) randomly builds all these siege weapons up to a limit, no more can be built throughout the borderland. SBI cannot build ANY siege weapons to do anything. No arrow carts, ballista to use for defence, no rams, catapults to use for taking towers. Apparently golems can be built but I don't really care.
I don't know what ANet can do about it, but I found that it is worth it to let everybody know about the problem. I know that the limit existing was a known thing but I haven't believed that anybody would abuse this kind of thing.

Didn't this happen to you before with flame rams last time?
from the flame ram batch on youtube:
A planned idea in WvWvW since our server point total was in good shape. We planned on adding more but apparently we maxed the amount siege we could put down and accidently caused problems where other people on the map couldn't put down any siege. We stopped at 93 flame rams. The whole thing took around 2-3 hours.
Can the mods despawn this crap for you?

This is Monday morning. And we can't take any objectives since we can't make any rams.
To answer the last question.. probably a mod can come in to remove them but, what's the point if they can come in again after to remake all those.
How is BG borderlands? do you guys have any arrow carts in that area?

I'll check. Where are the offending ACs? I can blow them up if they are reachable.

Where do you need to have this crap removed in BG borderlands? Plus, if your implying its BG, we have a +60 score and aren't expecting to win this match. You guys might want to throttle back the finger pointing, because once again you're smearing the wrong target.

Both JQ and BG had offered great fights this week btw. Nothing against the WvWers on either side.
I agree that the best option would be to contact a team/guild from an opposing server, escort and protect them from randoms

Problem is? Most of the Sieges are build on the spot only the storm members can reach and enemy can't crush. lol

I saw nothing in the upper rafters on BG. The best you might be able to do is a report for a ban.
I'll be back on later today. Give me the spots and I'll go get it. I can nuke for JQ or SBI what can be cleared. If BG has some of these, I'll pass the word for the vice versa.

Maybe the guy was just going for the "supply used to build siege" achievement

Nah this is SBI borderlands and I doubt this can be reached by any invading servers. I just wanted to see if BG is suffering the same thing in BG borderlands.
And no we are not accusing any server for this problem. As we have no evidence who did it.

Maybe a "friendly enemy team" with with a catapult can take them down ?
Somehow I fear it will happen again, and I'd like everyone to agree on a protocol.

The need of devs to create achievements that reward poor behavior has been a curse since COX and WOW. People would throw games in WoW for those stupid achievements. The stupidity factor in COX related to the badge achievements isn't even worth mentioning.

The ACs were destroyed by natural decay. No need to worry for this time. Was just thinking about all servers agreeing they should provide help to each other in case it happens again.

We can do that. I just swept the west wall in SBI borderlands with normal 1200 range fire attacks. I was about to question why I couldn't hit anything and ask for targeting help.

Does this only affect the specific world that owns the siege, or does it affect all worlds?
Like if Jade built 500 siege, would it stop Blackgate from building more or only Jade?

Each side has it's own limit. Having a global limit would be really really bad, for reasons that this thread already highlights.
The 7 day transfer cooldown should discourage this type of behavior, but obviously it's not enough to stop some people from griefing. Hopefully it gets addressed in some fashion at some point, but I'd imagine occurrences should be rare due to siege costs, supply, and the time it takes to build.

I appreciate the effort Laylyn. Things like this ruin wvw for everyone.
If anything like this happened to BG/JQ, I'd definitely be more than happy to try and kill the seige from my end (SBI. I have always lurked before and not posted, but felt the need to express my support for inter-server cooperation to deal with this.)
I suddenly have a newfound appreciation for natural decay of seige weapons..

We know the code is already there because the owner can claim the siege from another user, so perhaps just some way to see who the owner is.

We might not know, but ANET should know from the code. The single scariest thing said in this thread is that this kind of crap is linked to an achievement.
I have seen that crap in two other games already. We could all have this happen to us from the 25,000 or so players per server we all have that have no interest in wpvp, but might just want to unlock a shiny achievement. That is a potential metric crap ton of aggravation and wasted supply.

If I were to do it for the achievement, I'd just place it next to the supply and build-fetch-build-fetch-build-fetch.
This is obviously to troll the entire team.
