The aggression towards WoW players (and frankly those who migrate from other games) in this community is sickening. We should welcome players from all games as well as the positive influences they bring. I believe these changes are an attempt on Anet's part to introduce familiar elements reminiscent of the experiences people have in other games as a means to sure up their playerbase and eventually broaden it.
Positive influence? Maybe I will come off as a fanboy, but the GW2 philosophy which originates from the GW1 one, was this: "you can get the best statted items without too much effort, however if you want the "ubermegaleet" looking sets, then you have to work for it."
So far, GW2 proved to follow this same route: you could get exotic gear in a matter of days from dungeons, crafting or buying from others.
And here we are.. the "positive" influence of the ex-WoW players and the immigrants from other MMOs caused Anet to cater to their "special" needs and implement the possible beginning of a gear threadmill:
Newsflash: lots of people came to GW2 because they are sick of the gear threadmills of the other games. GW1 players came here as well with the same thought since they got used to it already and played the predecessor partially for that. (I personally played it for 6 years and it had no raids or gear threadmill...)
I would understand the gear threadmill-ers to come to GW2 if there would be no game about with that... however there are plenty! Just because it's the "new thing", they shouldn't flock to it and just whine and whine until it's changed to their taste while it was originally made for people who hate the currently existing MMOs on the market...
