Meh, who cares, for as long as they're not 400g, 100g or 50g it's alright.

If it doesn't mean anything then why do it in the first place? Also the article blatantly states the infusion slots will be used for future challenges.

We'll see though. But from what we know so far it's easy to see why people are upset.

Infusion is something else and not relevant to why people are whining.

Infused armor from GW was "slightly better" than non-infused armor.... when you were past the Iron Mines and only because it made you resist what was otherwise an instakill monster spell. The point being, that for story purposes, your armor got better in certain areas.

I personally can't see Anet being so out of touch that they would actually introduce a true new tier of equipment. Sure they have done some really stupid stuff... but this is pretty much the exact opposite of what they claimed this game was going to be.
If you look at what buffed.de said. Developers listened to player feedback and introduced this new item tier because they want their characters to progress further and not just remain on a horizontal level.

Yes .. there's always one or two players who want something the rest doesn't. Still you can say "we listen to our players".

Yea right ...

Some people are obviously having the attention spawn of a fly. A new (harder) dungeon will be coming so what did you expect? Skins, skins, skins, skins and oh did I forgot skins?

There would have been zero incentives to do the dungeon, because right now a lot of people are decked in rare/exotic gear. Since the actionbar, trait and skillsystem is so limited they only had one option left....introduce "better" - although they've mentioned - sligthly better gear, called ascended.

Slightly better does not mean all your rare/exotic stuff will be useless now:

5, 10, 15, 25, 35 these are just numbers and right now nobody knows how much better the new tier is going to be and if its worth the effort, clearly legendary weapons aren't worth it because they were just slightly better so if ascended is the same, there won't be much traction to get it.

Don't get me wrong, I knew from the beginning that this game won't have a gear progression tough I did expect some more trait and skill unlocking past 80...

Anyway also I wouldn't care about buffed this site has to be the worst german video gaming site ever. Their guides are always lacking and they are one of the biggest hype machine for big players not neutral reporters.

so basically ALL of the exotic crafted weapons and armors are useless now? We wasted a LOT of money to transmute that shit aswell. Hope Anet isn't tht dumb to see this.

I'm not even done equipping myself in exotic. Hard time going dungeons, only have 2/6 exotic armors and only 2/5 exotic weapons. I'm actually running in a full rare set of magic find to farm gold...

And then the update is coming with another set to get? The casual players will end being left behind since the new contents are too far ahead of them.

Exotic might not end being useless though, might be needed to survive the new content/dungeon (which mean everyone might need to get their exotic set to experience the new contents), but so far yeah, they are useless.

I just don't know if I should rush out my exotic sets before this week-end or not. ._.

It also depends on how we will get these ascended sets.

It's from a quote of a german website who asked the developers why they've chose to do this. I sure as hell don't support any of this new gear.

Ofcourse It's  "more than enough", Rare armor is "more than enough", but that defeats the whole purpose of being the best. Why would you want gear that can give you a 5k crit when Ascended armor can give you a 5.2k crit?

I have to disagree with people that saying the new ascended armor is only gonna affect dungeon and give anet benefit of the doubt. Maybe the infusion part is only gonna affect portion of the game (like how it was in gw1), the ascended (new tier) part is definitely affecting the whole game. If it is only affecting dungeon then their reason for making it won't be a valid reason. They want to reward people for making progression with their character, but if the ascended armor stat only rewards you when you play that one particular portion of the game that it doesn't make sense.

5 more in str and 20 more armor. such a big difference, it's like i'm going to fall down on the ground crying my eyes out.

L2P.

CHILL.

The armor is actually more of a big deal than the power increase. Armor increases defense and it's really noticeable.

Et tu GW2?

I hope the infusion is maybe how we can break the Karka shells?
You must get it infused before you are effective against them?
Maybe? hopefully or am I just grasping at straws?
cause if GW2 goes to a gear tread mill I might as well be playing a Trinity based old school MMO

My thoughts exactly... guess we'll see on Friday but what was going to be an awesome b'day present may now turn out to be a nightmare.

Good news. Another very good reason to quit the game. I have farmed my BiS gear and now all over again after a few months? No thanks. I hope they at least fix stPvp so there might be a reason to stick around.

And that in no way refutes the possibility of the scenario I layed out. You are still getting stronger, but it isn't something that undermines the basic goal of the game.

I personally could care less if there is an armor grind. I think my level 80 is still wearing level 60 armor. The game is so easy it doesn't really matter in many situations. I do think that the inclusion of such would go against the basic tenets and turn player morale even more against Anet, which is something they can not afford at this time.

Not to say it isn't possible for Anet to go and do something that makes no sense to anyone (they have a history of this).

That Anet would just accept and follow them NO.

And is just shit.

(admitting that what is written is actually as we think - endgame raiding like gear threadmill.)

Lol you are giving ArenaNet to much credit, this won't pull people from WOW lol. Fact is WOW does it better so why would their players suddenly look at GW2 for their PVE item grind treadmill.

On top of that you have PS2 which is a true PVP game that has no PVE and you can see the name of your foes and it's not meaningless PVP.

ArenaNet are just trying to protect their player base knowing that other MMOs are about to do PVP better and other MMOs have better PVE.

PVE in GW2 will always be a rez and zerg experience.

So much for no item grind lmfao.

Thing is, all you've obtained so far is completely useless as there's newer and better gear to get. GW2 is about horizontal progression not vertical progression. If I wanted that I'd play Aion or World of Warcraft.

I'm going to wait until it's in the game, but I'm going to refuse buying more transmutation stones to upgrade gear until there's a gear upgrade through a real expansion. If they plan to create a new tier of gear every few months, there's no point, because unless you no-life the game, you won't be finished upgrading the previous tier before a new one hits the game.
Now, I'm not entirely against gear upgrades, but so soon into the game seems rather strange to me. A lot of casual players are still leveling, or barely hit 80 yet, let alone be geared up in full exotics yet.

Pro:
- A good reason to play the new dungeon, more PvE endgame.
Con:
- Gear treadmill. As much as you "can" play with inferior gear, it's objectively an advantage to outstats your opponents in WvW.

Is this the beginning of better, tiered gear with every new dungeon?
Not sure I like this.

I think I'll wait until we have more info before I decide if this is good or bad.

I do wish though that increased difficulty won't not mean getting much better stats too. I mean, the whole point of increased difficulty is to take care of harder content with the same stuff... Typical MMO PvE difficulty sort of defeats the point of actual challenge if character power grows alongside it.

I don't mind a very minor increase TBH, or a sideways increase (e.g. resistance to a certain type of damage that occurs more in the specific dungeon) but if it goes the WoW route it will drop the game a notch in my eyes.

Still, I'll wait and see.

I - and lots with me i guess - choose to play Gw2 because it is not wow. And with the GW1 legacy, i'm (was) sure that GW2 won't turn in random WoW clone - neither use same mechanics.

Simple as that - if you want wow, go wow, not get new shiny mmo and then whine cause doesn't work like wow as usual and ask it to do so.

Plus, GW1/2 > wow to my eyes.

The equation WoW sells = let's make another WoW to sell moar is what made MMO market stale. GW2 is first breath of rfesh air since a while... that's why most of us are so upset.

(Wow, the amount of times i've wrote "wow" to expalin myself is just.... wow)

This is only true if the situation I presented is false. If it is false, then yes I agree with you.

As of yet, we have no reason... er no factual reason to believe it won't be the case. In all honesty I think Anet is just being dumb again.

Guys, you are forgetting the most important thing here!!! SKINS! Worry about whether the skins will be shit, or awesome. Who cares if they are OP when we don't have a real pvp mode yet? What, you are gonna get hit for 25 more damage in WvW, that your concern? Meh... I just hope these new items look at least half as good as the 15k sets from GW1.

I'm uneasy because they are turning back on their original ideal of no gear treadmills.
"You get exotics and you're done with stats." was ok for me.

I'll wait to judge when I see the dungeon tho.
If it's fun to play then I welcome it, but if it's another big-healthbar-oneshotter party it's going to be a "stay ranged and hit 1" grind.

For istance, that's why i'm upset.

Because we know nothing, and yet the only thing about this is:

Quote

With great challenges come great rewards. The patch will introduce ascended items. Ascended armors are "slightly more powerful than exotics" and can, in some cases, hold slots for infusions. Infusions will allow you to increase your character's power. Guild Wars players are familiar with infusing armor, although I'll be my hat that the process doesn't involve creepy Seers this time 'round.

Which can mean almost anything.

But yeah, always cool being the "Shut up" guy for no reason.
