Hi everyone,

We’re going to publish a blogpost about the new ascended items on the Guild Wars 2 website. This should answer most of the community’s questions before the content is live this weekend.

Thanks for your patience!

Makes me think it isn't merely a stat increase, or maybe not a stat increase at all?

I don't think they can possibly expect to add higher tier gear at this point and get away with it. It is probably something to upgrade your existing exotic armour for the specific plot line.

But consider this; who loses out if it's a treadmill? PvP doesn't use PvE gear and WvW is already just a war of the population.

Blues are unacceptable for me because I solo all my PVE, meaning I sometimes have no help if my dps/health/heals falls short.  But if I were doing dungeons I wouldn't assume someone in blues was lazy.  I'd assume if leveling that they were saving their karma and gold for 80 and if 80 that they had just turned 80.  No one wants to be gimped in an MMO, even if the content is doable.

That said, I'm not spending time doing something I don't want to do for shiny gear to compete at 80.  This game wasn't supposed to be like that.  I'm sure as hell not paying real money for it.  So while I can accept that other people are undergeared, I cannot accept being undergeared myself just because Anet is going back on what they said it would be like.

I was thinking of people running dungeons at 80, so yes I agree that if someone was leveling I wouldn't expect them to have rares. Masterwork is still extremely cheap, but blues are more understandable if you're freshly level 30 trying AC story for the first time. (god help you)

And I agree with your second paragraph completely. The draw of Guild Wars 2 is the many different ways to obtain exotics. Want to craft them? Make money and buy them? Buy them with karma? Drops from the world? Dungeon tokens? It's really a great setup, and grinding skins is, in my opinion, a viable way to design grind because elitists go crazy over anything rare, stats be damned.

...presuming a gear treadmill is actually what Ascended gear is.

I could also argue that casual players cant be pleased ither period and quite frankly they cant they always want something for nothing no hard work involved not time put into the game they want things easy with lil effort over a lil bit of time but when things are two hard and requite time and effort to be put into it they cry and complain.

It simply sounds to me like you are playing the wrong game.

So Ascended gear is only for FoM dungeons?

Only *from* the dungeon. There is no evidence in any of the site quotes that have been posted to even vaguely hint that they are restricted to only being used in the dungeon, just that the Fractals of the Mist will be the only source of them (at least for the initial batch).

And there is no evidence that these items will make exotics obsolete and yet there are loads of post here whining about that.

There are just as much reason to assume that they gear will be used specifically for that dungeon that it is to assume that the gear will be the start of a gear threadmill.

Looks awesome, looking forward to going through the new content, but I don't see any point to another gear tier.

If they're easy to obtain, they'll just make the rest of the game a bit easier.

If they aren't, then it's just a terrible idea...

If it's to dictate progression in the new content, wouldn't it be easier (and nicer, mefeels!) to keep track of those stats differently?

I am playing the right game i only Play GW2 for the PvP and WvW and its cause of WvW that i even bother dabbling in PvE Easy mode Aion has more challenging PvE atm then GW2 and is way more rewarding for it. But i am not gonna play Aion lol its pay to win for sure now but still the game thrives

LF2M Must be ascended no exotics kthx.

It doesn't matter if it is only for that dungeon or not.  The fact is the exotic cap didn't work.  GW1 system in their eyes failed.  They could have made ACTUAL legendary armor just like weapons for this dungeons.  They *could* have simply restructure all loot drops (something COMMONLY complained about) to allow a much greater chance of random precursors to drop is you completed "X" dungeon paths in a day or something.  Or went for if you can speed clear "X" dungeon in "Y" time you get a precursor.

But no they seem to go the stat route.    They aren't listening to player feedback they are running around trying to get a carrot as fast as possible.  Bugs aren't on their list.  Fixing the game isn't on their list. WvW/SPvP fixes aren't on their list.

But becoming more like WoW sure is.

Oh, I suppose you whined about Infusing your armor in GW1 (if you played it) as well? Seeing as you were more or less forced to Infuse your armor to get past a certain part of the game.

Oh look the GW2 community overreacting to something they haven't even seen 'in person'. I'm having flashbacks to pre-launch.

My advice; hold off on losing your minds until after we actually know the details of their implementation.

Sure you can kill full exotic geared people in WvW.  But only if they're much worse than you.  If skill and level are equal then gear determines the outcome, and gear should never do that in a PvP setting.
If gear is fully equal it's based on luck.
I don't like luck that much, thanks, but I'll go for the gear factor ;)

Yeah like the times they overreacted to character bound dyes, exotics taking way more dungeons runs than they do now, and sPvP having less than a handful of builds ;)

I find it hilarious how the tables have turned against the Fanbois. How does it feel to be told this game isn't for you? Bahaha.

I completely support this, whether it's just a stat increase while inside the dungeon or permanent, it's a long term goal for us PvE players that are not interested in the whacky looking "legendaries". I'm very pleased to hear this. They MUST stay away from this gear treadmill on the PvP side though, very far away.

But, did anyone else read the tweets by Martin and get pissed? His snarky/annoyed way of saying what he said REALLY pissed me off. Completely unprofessional letting players go crazy without a proper explanation all this time. Not only that, but getting angry because the playerbase don't have a blind faith in them? They are supposed to provide quality products and services to their customers. Communication is key, if they weren't ready to clear things up...definitely their bad! I have lost respect for a lot of the Anet guys.

It's been two weeks since the Halloween Update, the update where they whirled up a firestorm after releasing pre-patch notes about the BLC and later changed their stance after realizing how big of an error they made.

I think people should complain, giving us vague information with the potential of gear treadmill (a selling point of the game) in order to hype this event is not a good idea. We do not need another backlash because the PR side of Arenanet thinks a "wait and see" approach will help the game.

Funny, I am being labeled a fanboy quite often, and yet I have no problem with this.
Must be because I don't assume things before we actually know about them I suppose.

As for Martins reaction: Those are from his PRIVATE account. Which is clearly stated in his profile.
As a private user he has every right to react however he wants to peoples silly rage.

FYI, those tweets by Martin are on his personal account, which is not an official statement by ArenaNet by any means.  Martin is known for being blunt, especially when he believes people are overreacting.  I'd be really annoyed too if any time a statement is made without 100% info (which will never happen unless they give you a complete outline of every single update a month in advance) the forums start going "ALL IS LOST!!!".

Farming a full set of exotic armor can be farmed in a day or two, so why not introduce something new to farm for?  Instead of raging before this comes out, why not see what its like, see how long it takes to get, and see if it imbalances the game.  Typical gamers rage before they know what they have.  Sadly, they will rage after they know what they have ,whether they like it or not.  Hooray Anet, keep the new content coming, I'm stoked.

Funny, at my workplace there are policies that cover my private online presence as well.  It's pretty unusual for a company to say, "Oh, well, it's your private account, so you can say whatever you want."

One of the things that is strange is that they can't seem to tell what the hot-button items are for their player base.  Things like the gear plateau are obvious sacred cows, so you'd think they'd be extra careful about throwing out things like "new, slightly more powerful armor".

In the business world there is no such thing as "privet account".  If you have a Known name in whatever you in and state something *regarding* your product/customers it will still be taken as such.  Also further employers WILL look into it.  What you say on your "privet account" reflects not only on you but the entire business as a whole.

Go look at Diablo 3.  He was required to do a full apology for a guy he doesn't even talk to as well as the community.

Indeed, it's quite sad really.

The Guild Wars 2 community (and almost any other MMO community) feels like a barrel of gunpowder, they're all just waiting for something to cry about. Anyway, I just hope the sh*tsticks here will leave after this, kinda tired of seeing people going apesh*t with all the "what I hate about gw2/ gw2 sucks/refund/it isn't gw1/it's unfinished" etc threads.
