Anet is going to pretty much kill any incentive to do other dungeons also this dungeon will increase the trend of players asking for specific cclasses such as LFM Guardian/Warrior only

They've always been like this with PR, even the days of Gaile basically lying to us in GW1. I don't why people expected different.

If you are going to be cynical why even bother playing the game, why not just assume eventually they will do it and save yourself the headache and not play the game?

Because I like the other aspects of the game, such as combat and exploration. I'm not a casual player... I play every night, usually 4+ hours a night or more, and 12+ on days I have off from work. I am sure I'll be able to get myself Ascended gear, but it's not about that.

It's about the fact that they sold us on a delicious icecream sundae (GW2 with no gear treadmill), let us happily partake of it for 2-3 months, and are now trying to quietly swap it out with a puke covered turd sandwich (gear treadmill).

I paid $60 for a delicious icecream sundae, not a puke covered turd sandwich.

I think this is a brilliant move by ANet. I mean, what could possibly go wrong?

Is the looking for a specific class really that common? I have yet to see that actually...only thing I've seen is lvl 80 and exotics and/or experienced.

This is retarted. But I understand that Anet is a comany after all and has to please people who come from wow and other grind-to-win games. At least make it possible to buy that gear from the item mall for a reasonable prize, so I don't have to waste time grinding for it. Even pay-to-win is better than grind-to-win.

i just don't understanding how come this kinda of things never happened in GW1 but it happens in GW2 (i mean miscommunication, panicking...) I'm not saying that people are being paranoid, I'm just curious how come this never really happened when i played gw1. I can see a difference in how they handle info.

Yes that is what I am talking about. You HAD to get your armor infused (and you had to redo the infusion every single time you changed a piece of armor.

The vast majority of players did not manage to do that mission with Henchmen btw. So it was rather "forced" grouping as well.

Even in the early days of GW, warriors and rangers ran that mission for a very small fee. It only got easier as the game aged. If you followed the campaign you'd get infused anyways. And who wouldn't have max armor after reaching droknar's forge, so the only reason to change is for a prestige set or another headpiece.

I don't know about this "vast majority", the infuse run is and was easy with a team of henchmen.

Absolute nonsense. I can take a level 10 with basic gear into WvW and still manage to kill more than I get killed.

OK, I just read this on mmorpg.com (I think I saw someone posted it in the thread already but I'll repost just in case):

"Speaking of rewards, the Fractals of the Mist Dungeon will introduce the new ‘Ascended' item type. This type is a bit more powerful than the Exotic quality items currently found in the game. There will only be a couple of Ascended quality items available initially, but some of the rarer Ascended items will also feature a new Infusion slot that will make players even more powerful so that they can tackle new challenges that ArenaNet plans to throw at them as they continue to expand on the dungeon over the coming months and years."

IF this is accurate, it could mean a whole lot of things as its kind of unclear. But the way I interpret this (though maybe it's just my wishful thinking) is that this Fractals dungeon is essentially one big, ever expanding (through content patches) dungeon, one could almost say a sort of "endless dungeon" in a sense as it gets harder and harder. And these Infusions will be upgrades for Ascended quality gear which only drop in this type of dungeon. This could mean that they will only work within said dungeon as the difficulty elsewhere is basically set - and getting ever more powerful would mean that eventually people would be able to, say, one-shot Zhaitan solo with ultra-Infused stuff, something that I'm sure ArenaNet does not want happening.

Again, this is just my interpretation of the mmorpg.com article, and both of us could be missing the mark entirely. But if it's like that it doesn't sound too bad to me.

LET'S WAIT AND SEE, GUYS AND GIRLS! :)

Here's my speculation:

Think about all those "+10% damage against X mob" that no one except farmers use. This Infusion slot could very well be for something like that, the mob type specific to that dungeon.

Of course, that would still mean we need to get an Ascended set just to do more of that dungeon.

Imagine a seperate set of armour for each new large dungeon. Think of the bank space you need.

I think this guy has hit the nail on the head, they want us to buy more bank space so they will keep throwing armor sets for different dungeons at us.  GENIUS!

That's what I thought. It could be a good thing.

But:
1.The deeper they get in the dungeon, the better the rewards become. So in the end, people with the Ascendant sets will get an advantage anyway since they will get good rewards doing the dungeon.
2. They said in an article that it would be hard to get these ascendant sets
3. You can only get the ascendant set in the dungeon.

Actually, without this update:
1. Once you get your exotic set, you become polyvalent. You can get good rewards from: farming Orr's events and doing any dungeons you like
2. You can get your exotic set from the way you like: trading post, farming karma, farming gold, crafting it yourself, so you aren't limited
3. So once you become 80 in exotic, you play the way you like: want to farm Orr? You do. You feel hardcore doing a dungeon? You do it. You want to go back in earlier zones? Sure, you might still get neat stuffs and rewards from events (less than Orr but still)
4. Every dungeons had people doing it or willing to do it, because most of the rewards between each of them were equal.

With the update, it destroys 1., because now the only good way to get a good amount rewards at once would be to farm this new dungeon. You could still farm Orr/old dungeons, but since the new one is said to be tough, surely the drops there will be better.
It also destroys 2., because the only way to get the ascendant set is by doing the dungeon.
3. Nobody will ever go back in earlier zones because of the new ones and the new dungeon.
Might still find people in Orr, but that's a wait'n'see because I've yet to meet tons of people in Metrica province and other zones at the moment. It might become worse.
4. Is also ruined. See 1. People will always go where the rewards are better, this time the new dungeon. There was a good balance between each dungeons actually. Bringing a new one with the best rewards that ALSO require a new whole set breaks this.

Of course, this is the worse case scenario, but since there is no blog today and I'm bored, I speculate...

Don't people get tired of this cycle? Anet announces something that can be slightly misleading, majority of people bitch rant and moan about how Anet lied to them, update notes come out and its a non-issue. You'd think people would be used to this by now, but nope!

WAIT FOR THE DAMN PATCH NOTES.

Speculation as to what it means is all well and good, but "I told you so" when you don't even know what is happening makes 0 sense.

I think it's pretty funny, and also very stupid of Arenanet to test the waters like this or whatever they're doing.  I never thought my obsessive geek gamer self would be in agreement with people who spent hundreds of dollars getting their level 80 gear the shortcut way, but right now I see some cash shopper posts that are at least as indignant as anything I've ever typed on this forum.

Of course Arenanet doesn't want the Otaku (god I hope I'm using that word right and that the definition hasn't changed lately!) dorks who expect a company to live up to their promises and who, let's be honest, are the most nitpicky of nitpicky gamers.

They want what all businesses want: customers who open their wallets at the mere mention of an easy shiny and never complain or think much about what they're given.  There are lots of people out there like that.  I hear one is born every minute.

What happened to not wanting to give people who play a lot the advantage over others in terms of gear?

So the work I put into my exotics, with the limited time I have available to play, suddenly gets thrown out of the window for some gear thats in what appears to be just one dungeon and in which, inorder to get better rewards (ie a better chance at this ascended gear), I need to invest more and more time in each passing?

Or if they add it to dungeon vendors, can I get a refund on all the tokens I spent getting gear that suddenly and without warning became obsolete? I mean, in standard MMOs you know it will happen but that was never an indication in this game and, if anything, seems to go against principal.

Oh well, hope for the best, expect the worst.

EDIT: If its dungeon limited, adding this gear to increment stats is just an artificial road block that prevents new players from progressing without depositing X hours in the *easy* form of Fractal (doing it XYZ number of times just to *gear up*) before being able to see all the content. That is, standard gear treadmill.

They never bothered to make it so that you could transfer original AC/CM exotic (lower than 80) gear to the newer 80 set, even when they stated they would.  Why would they start refunding now?

Halloween destroyed dungeon PuG's too.  The new update will as well.  For awhile at least.  New and shiny = the majority of players.  Nothing much ANet can do about it so I don't blame them.

Only difference is that this will stay so I wonder how many people will want to PuG hard dungeons with this new content out on top of "improved" exotic gear.

On a second, slightly more... reasoned out post. Limiting this sort of gear to this "ever expanding" dungeon might not be a terrible way to give people their need for artificial progression, but its definitely a slippery slope. Why do we need better gear and bigger numbers for difficulty if, at the end of the day, what it comes down to is mechanics. Are people really that in need of new "shinies" that don't matter when your enemies scale upwards with you, in order to feel accomplished? If you fail at a dungeon, it really shouldn't come down to: "Do you have 6/6 of X gear?" and be about "Did you stand in the red rings?"

In the best case scenario I can see it working as this:
- New players fight on lower levels of fractal and gain this gear, allowed to progress into new levels as they are released.
- Old players need to pass through all levels of fractal to reach higher tiers and so, to alleviate the process of redoing old stuff, this "scaled" gear makes it such that you can steamroll the older tiers to hurry you along.

If difficulty scales in terms of mechanics rather than just standard *must have x dps* this may not be terrible but it comes down being like a forced learning curve rather than one you can try your luck on even if fresh out of the water, and not be held back by artificial +100% damage vs players. Even the above two bullets would be better handled if you just had a "leveling" system through the Fractal and you could display your "Fractal" level rather than adding gear. You can complete the whole fractal at once from level 1 if you are good enough... rather than you can complete the whole fractal after 100 hours of grinding out gear from the lower tiers of fractal.

Perhaps someone can see more good in this than I, but I tried and... some scenarios aren't too terrible. It will give vertical progression in one localized place to whoever wants it and not affect the rest of the world in any way.

No additional facts will change the fact that ArenaNet is adding in additional stat boosts as a reward to max level characters.

No additional facts will change the fact that this will cause some disparity between players based upon how much time they have to farm this stat boost or to afford the cost of it.

No additional facts will change the fact that this sets a precedent for stat boosts that will continue later on.

No additional facts will change the fact that it will be harder to find a pug unless you have the new shiny gear (even if it doesn't really make a big difference in performance).

I said "might" a few times.  There's still a chance we didn't overreact since none of us know much about this ascended stuff.  A couple of news sites say one thing and someone that works for Anet implies that our feathers are ruffled over nothing.  People can call me a stupid fangirl if they want, but it's a little easier for me to trust someone that works for the company over a news site that could have misunderstood something.  Either way, nobody gave a lot of details.  I guess we will get clarification whenever they finally post the blog.  IMO they probably should have posted it when those sites posted their articles since it would have prevented a lot of us from getting pissed off about something that may not be true.
