First off: This might be asking a lot, but please, don't turn this into a Ascended Armour QQ thread. We've already got a thread for this. This is merely a speculation thread on what people think this the new dungeon hub thing will entail.

Quote

The Fractals of the Mists is made up of nine mini-dungeons, each with its own story and environment. A party of five will enter the dungeon and be faced with a random set of three of these dungeons at a time. Upon completing those three, the party will be transported to a hub to rest, repair, and merch -- and the difficulty scale for the dungeon will be raised. Every time the difficulty scale is at an even number, players will face a special boss encounter.

My speculations

1) In content updates, we'll see more dungeons added to this.

2) Dungeons might be related to old lore and old GW missions. For example, Underworld and Fissure of Woe are in the Mists.

3) Possibly tied in with the up coming pre-cursor changes. I.E if you get to a certain level of difficulty / collect enough tokens you get awarded a pre-cursor / pre-cursor token. Likewise, possibly drops from the 'special bosses'.

There is not enough information to speculate, just wait for the 15th and we will see it

That hasn't stopped people from "speculating" on the new armour, has it? We don't need a whole lot of info to speculate...

Used to play FATE a while back and have Torchlight now (basically the same game as FATE) and I did enjoy dungeon crawling, however the only reason to keep going in games like that is for stat increases.

Hopefully Anet will add enough variety and maybe make the combinations mix together somehow to give more uniqueness to each run, otherwise it will likely get old quickly for me. As I understand it there will be a number of different mini dungeons and 3 of these will randomly be put together to create a "floor", once you clear this floor you go to a rest area and the game generates a new dungeon by putting 3 of the options together at random.

However, depending how many options it chooses from and if they combine in any way will decide the longevity of this dungeon for me. If there are 10 different mini dungeons to choose from there would be 27(?) unique combinations (assuming order doesn't count), but there are still only really 10 different bits, to play just only 3 are available each floor.

I prefer to be cynical, but fair on rumours and then judge for myself on release so Anet may do a really good job with this and I think one big attraction will be getting some friends together on VOIP and just seeing how far you can go for fun, though I fear PUGs will be hard to get into and unfriendly due to the rewards they want out of a run.

Either way I shall wait and see, hope it will be fun and I do fear the new armour tier but I refuse to damn a game based on it before it is implemented.

(sorry to mention stat grind, though I tried not to dwell on it in the hope it won't start a Ascended armour QQ)

So, is this hub instanced or an open-world area? Can one complete 3 dungeons, quit and then continue from where one left off or is the hub just a central location where you can sell stuff in peace, but can not save your progress?

A Plane of Time / Caverns of Time kinda deal that allows them to recreate interesting missions from GW1 and untold stories from the past that click with the lore would be interesting.

I would say Mursaat seeing as Infusion is mentioned. (Probably another kind of infusion but one can hope, right? :D )

Isn't enough info a developer quote detailing the ascended armor implementation?

Colin Johanson, ANet: "With great challenges come great rewards. The patch will introduce ascended items. Ascended armors are "slightly more powerful than exotics" and can, in some cases, hold slots for infusions. Infusions will allow you to increase your character's power. Guild Wars players are familiar with infusing armor, although I'll be my hat that the process doesn't involve creepy Seers this time 'round."

Seriously man, stop raging on me. You quote every single post I make, it just makes you seem silly and obsessed.

I'm a little worried about how they scale the dungeon. Unless there's an eventual cap you're going to reach a point of impossibility - i.e. WvW Camp supervisors with Righteous Indignation (good luck killing them with a 5 man group). Then I have questions about how well they scale with other people, i.e. do they scale to the person with the highest/least exploration or is it the first person into the instance.

I'm not looking forward to another UW or DoA where you can't get a group unless you can show your progress. Some of it is reasonable, we all want people that know what they're doing, but some of it is simply ridiculous, I have to farm the UW 150 times before you let me in your group?

If progression in the dungeon will be, it'll maybe allow you to farm the req "progress" on the frist few levels and get into more and more serious groups more and more you play throught it.

The articles were a little unclear if you had to stay in the same group for the difficulty to go up or if it saves your highest progress, or if you get put in the dungeon with the person with the lowest progress...

Hopefully they clarify.

Give me the link for this please. Massively hasn't even said that they got their information from an article or special interview and there has been NO information about ascended armor (except for a hint before with special rewards from the new dungeon) until today. Nothing has said that this is how they're taking the system.

On topic: With this I'm expecting kind of a cross between a Diablo and Slaver's Exile, but maybe that's just me :P I'm looking forward to it ^_^

Pretty sure difficulty level saves, so after 3 dungeons you move to the next tier of difficulty.

Once players return to town, future entries into the dungeon will scale to become harder than the last.

Thinking about it now, I wonder how it works if difficulty progress is saved?

Kind of hoping for a Lufia II type experience. That would be fun to see in a online game. Gets harder and harder the further you go with checkpoints every so often.

A 100 level tower would be very cool too!

wow! im pretty interested to see how this is implemented.  its a weird comparison but its almost like the gears of war horde mode game type only in classic dungeon crawling splendor!!!

this sounds like something that should be attempted by players comfortable with each other and competent in gaming skill.

also sounds like good content for the hardcore if they want to turn it that way ;)

To me this sounds like Lost Dungeons of Norrath on steroids. Since I was a huge LDoN player back when I played EQ I would even pay for this alone.  Meta event style bosses?  Ever increasing difficulty?  Toss a leaderboard LDoN style and its from heaven.

My question is:
If I get really far down and the group disbands, and later that day I form a PuG.  Which level will it set me on?  If I then reform my dungeon team afterwards will it reset me/the group back behind theirs?

A bit confusing here

I'm so confused about this whole dungeon... It get's harder as you progress. Okay. And when I take a break... Does it reset when I re-enter? What if I re-enter with a different party, how is the difficulty scaled then?

If the dungeon requires Infusions for you to even progress, then Infusions must be fairly common or require infrequent upgrades to mitigate the eventuality of some players not having the right infusions and breeding an atmosphere of elitism, right?

Infusion sounds like it is from a mystic forge recipe, so it should be freely available to everyone (unless of course it requires massive amount of materials)

It says the Infusions are found in dungeons.

No it doesnt

Players who wish to delve deep into the Fractals will find that Agony makes progress increasingly difficult, until they reach the point where some defense against this condition is a must. The only way to mitigate Agony damage is by building up resistance through Infusions, a new type of upgrade component that can be acquired in the Mystic Forge.

Yes, it does. But I guess they come in drops and crafting. Hopefully all of them do, and the MF method is just a means to get them faster.

Indeed, but you clearly did not read it, seeing as you kept repeating that it says it is gotten in the dungeon, which it doesn't.

Nope, the line refers to Ascended items, not the infusion. The part about infusion is a subpart of the sentence, seeing as they have commas around it.

Correct, but since infusions can only be added to ascended items, being able to forge them outside the dungeon won't help if you lack the items.

I'm hoping resetting the dungeon will be straightforward. I really don't want to end up so far in I can't progress anymore due to a single really good run. I'm expecting it to be party-based, and leaving the party will reset it, like dungeon instances.
