Gee. I wonder where I would get ascended stuff...

Right, mystic forge or dungeon. Here's hoping the mystic forge doesn't require items gotten from the dungeon..

But ascended armor isn't even needed to do the dungeon, unless you do it enough that it gets super difficult. It's like diablo, run through on normal, run through on nightmare and get better items so that you can survive the extreme difficulty levels. The casual players probably would have stopped at normal. The hardcore players get to play from Nightmare to inferno.

The casual players won't be excluded from the content because they probably won't grind it, which means they won't get to a difficulty level where they NEED ascended gear. The hardcores will grind the dungeon for the sake of grinding the dungeon, and along the way they'll earn ascended armor so that they can keep doing it at a harder and harder difficulty.

I'm only slightly okay with this, as long as they don't take it any farther. Even if they do, I won't really care too much unless they make the gear required to access content.

And what about WvW players? Arena force them to go PvE even if they don't want to. They have to add an option to get such gear in WvW.

And why assume they won't add gear that way?

Also keep in mind that the actual difference won't matter in 99,9% of the cases in WvW.

I doubt you would be able to tell the difference with someone using Rare and someone using Exotic in WvW at the moment.
And the difference between those two seems to be bigger than the difference between Exotic and Ascended.

I admit I needed to slightly vent. My frustration stems from Anet's philosophy of gear acquisition. You should be able to get max gear through multiple means, be it crafting, dungeons, WvW.

people crying because they dont feel any superiority with gears. now that that anet added something like this, you can still hear cries everywhere.

Oh god, people have different opinions, the horror!

On topic: content gating is bullshit. That's really all I have to say about this gear update. Never cared about PvE too much, but it saddens me that new dungeons will flip me a bird when I try to do them because I don't have "X of Contrived Stat of Not-dying-from-finger-of-god effect".

They will try to stick to their manifesto, but seriously... Guys don't be so naive. This is business. And the game belongs to ncsoft and you know what other company. This is about money only. You know that. It you don't, then wake up already.

I love gw2, I hope it gets better, I'm overwhelmed by all the new content I don't have enough time to keep up with it, but I like this new system. I'm willing to enjoy and try out all the new stuff they come up with.

I love GW2 too. And indeed it's about money.  A game has to be fun to make money.  Right now the UN-fun thing about exotic gear is the amount of grind in zones that are full of undead for limited resource.  It was already disappointing me to have to go thru annoyance to get exotic gear.  Orr is annoying, and limited nodes.  It was obviously to to slow down people.  I tried to have sympathy for ANet.  So I got around it via gems exchange.  Part of my justification was: this was my support to ANet for making a "mostly fun game" aside from the grind for exotic and legendary gear.

Unfortunately the introduction of a new type of gear sounds like Orr over again.  Instead of designing some fun dungeons which can involve good story, great layout, etc., we are faced with yet another UN-fun mechanics, a condition where mobs can kill you fast, unless you get the new uber gear.

This type of "progression" will kill the game. Major reason?  It is not fun  Only making players life hard, then make them work more to have it "tolerable".

To make money, ANet needs to create fun.  Right now this sounds like another Orr to me.

You can't compare.Diablo to GW2.. Or well you shouldn't have to. Gw2 was supposed to.cater to a.certain crowd, not the masses of grind addicted zombies.

And yet an extremely minor part of the game cater to a certain crowd, but it is not okay because you are not part of that crowd?

Different parts of the game cater to different crowds. That has been the case since release.

That'd be nice if I could get all my Ascended gear before needing one Infusion, then.

On a positive note, boy am I glad I didn't spend my badges of honor on WvW accessories.

And yet it's ok to go back on their word? They always said getting max value stuff would be easy to find, I even asked Martin during gamescom 2011 about this. Check youtube if you don't believe me.

And we know that these new items will be hard to find then? Please provide source for that.

Very disappointed that they've made this change of direction in their game design philosophy.

Im disappointed in Anet for making this decision.

It wont effect me much, but it just seems to go against the whole ethos of GW2.

I truly like playing GW2, while it its as "revolutionary" as it was made out to be, its been a nice fresh MMO to play. But with this tiny change I can see the death of the game.

They are trying to satisfy the minority of people who want something "more" to aim for (plenty of QQ threads around about that), but have just alienated their targeted (majority) player base. The changes may be small, but it always starts small. As soon as you implement gear progression, there isn't any nice way to stop it. It is in most cases the single reason why popular MMO's eventually die.

Must say I'm extremely disappointed in this move... I have not agreed with everything gw2 team has done, but this it the first thing that has me thinking maybe this will not be my long-term mmorpg.  I am totally against "itemization."  Those noting that the stat increase is small, you "do not need it" etc., I saw the same thing in AoC forums when I argued against itemization there, same arguments "it's just a little increase" until it is a 50% power upgrade.  Any power increase over "exotic" is IMO a direct slap in the face to those who have fought to support a game and design philosophy totally against itemization.

The infusion sounds tolerable, increase in stats though a total no-go for me, very sorry to see this step and now thinking of looking elsewhere that gw2 for the first time, in a long time.  Disappointed, seriously :(

Except you'll eventually see people saying "LFXM ARAH EXP, FULL ASCENDED ONLY", even though at the moment rare or exotic is enough.

And while they keep searching for people to join their group, you come along and start a group with the perfectly fine people they rejected... Might even be done with the dungeon before they even get in.

We are not talking about the new dungeon, we are talking about people being forced to use Ascended gear in the existing dungeons.

This was my feeling 5 hours ago.  But now I think it'll just be more grind, and more unpleasant monster ability that comes out.  We will go in a loop of getting one-shotted, then forced to craft some more. Lol. We come to play, not to work!  Entertainment ftw.  Not work!  I have to work to pay for my games.  :P

Well we already know that at least one part of the Ascended "set" can be gained from the Mystic Forge.
Why assume there won't be other ways to get all the parts?

1)  What will we need to put into the forge?
2)  Will it be a random generator grind?

1) No information yet, I simply stated that there is no proof that the gear will only be obtainable in the dungeon.
2) Most specific items does have a very specific recipe in the Forge.

I think you misunderstood me.  When I said a grind, I meant crafting grind.  That grind could be fun if the mats drop in a fun zone.  But I suspect there will be mobs in PvE open zones with the same one-shot ability, and probably make the zone as unpleasant as Orr.

Well, buy the materials from TP if you can't work for them yourself?

I have yet to see a single PvE open zone mob with one-shot ability (not counting the big bosses at the end of event chains)

Interesting. I have a hard enough time getting exotics, now they want me to get more "better" stuff? What if I don't want to? Will not having these magical, time consuming artifacts of nerdly justice put me at a disadvantage? Maybe not, but I can see it now; (plays harp)

"LF1M FotM levels 1-5"

"Can I come?"

"You'll need 3/6 infused gear."

"How do I get those?"

"By doing the dungeon"

"Facinating."

I really don't like the direction this is going in . Even if its just a few trinket items , and even though it's just  a few stat points, it goes in a direction i have just thought ArenaNet was vigorius against.

I don't buy the argument that there is to big a leap between legendaries and exsotics. I simply don't think thats where there is a problem with GW2. Its another discussion to take , but looking at GW1 there is actual alot of thing that it does better when it comes to making the game interesting for a powergamer without having to resort to gear grind. Buildwars had it's merits , and Gw2 could learn something from that.

i feel disappointed to a degree where i actual find it hard to motive myself to use the invite a friend feature atm.

Only way for me to do that would be to buy gems and trade for gold.  I'm going to buy gems for fun, not to avoid grind/pain.  Waiting to see if the contents will be fun, or pain.  :)
