Are exotic sets of armor and jewelery soon to be worthless? Now that there will always be the next armor and gear to get like every other mmo, does it make all that players have worked for already worthless and pointless to get?

Im personally glad I didnt craft / buy the rest of my exotic sets I only have one but some players have got multiple exotic sets on multiple characters, is all there effort worthless now because of the next new thing on the block?

And now there all souldbound and worthless, can’t even get your money or ecto’s or ori ore back or gold that you spent…

Anet just screwed over anyone that worked on getting exotics for there character because they were told there would not be gear grind….with horizontal gear progression. Its all about the cosmetics etc....

This weekend exotic rings and the 5 gold backpacks everyone bought will become worthless and no longer the best in the game...what happens when there is full sets of ascended armor? Exotics will be pointless in getting.

I have...2 sets of exotic accessories (10 items) and 3 sets of exotic armors (18 items) along with 7 exotic weapons that I regularly switch among...and I'm actually happy to be given a chance to increase my stats higher, to get more crit damage, etc.

Unless they suddenly increase the difficulty for the entire world, no those items are not worthless now.

Will they need to replace certain accessories if they want to get far into the Fractal of the Mists dungeon? Yea, probably.

Really? Hmm I somehow fail to see how two slots negate all exotics.. but then I tend to be rational.  If you mean that at some point, several content patches from now and more likely well into the middle of next year there will be a full set of this new gear released then sure.. but no your still over reacting lol

I love it how people think Exotics become useless when Ascended is released. I mean, you can do lv80 stuff with Masterwork gear.

Why? You're climbing a mountain. A mountain a certain company said was 15,000 ft at the summit. You get to the top and then you get a phone call from the company, "Yeah, we lied. It's actually 18,000 ft."

Why do people need more everything? What will higher stats seriously do for you besides put you at an advantage to other players? (for an undetermined amount of time). Come the first expansion, they will have GODLY tiered items, 10% better than the last tier. Its the cheapest form of additional content.

Games need progression to thrive, but this is not the way to do it.

Not really they have stated they will be bringing out more ascended items. Meaning Exotics will be pointless in investing the time to get.

You can play with masterwork, yes. You can also play entirely nude. You can play anything you want until....

We do know for sure. They will have better stats than exotics. Its on there official website. How much by doesn't matter its fact.

Exotics will seem pointless to players to go and get now if ascended armor sets will be released in the future. Any exoyics that players already got are now soulbound, players put some effort into getting exotic sets because they were told there would not be stats and gear grind in GW2, now there is so the reasons they got those exotics now become pointless and worthless.

How long until legendary armors are out in the game? Then ascended armor is worthless?

You see where this will go? Not Guild Wars 2, but WoW 2.

Exotics will become worthless once they release full sets, this weekend exotic rings and the backpacks everyone bought for 5 gold each will become worthless overnight...

The only problem is that the difference between RARE armor and the highest tier is now 21% instead of 13%. So previously, alts or simply people with rare armor can compete with exotic geared people if they do their best. But now they are even less effective, making it maybe required to get exotics if u want to compete.

This is speculation ofc. Maybe it's not going to be this bad but the possibility is there.

Yep they are totally useless, because they are releasing a full set of ascended gear and weapons with significant stat increases. Sell off all your exotics and twiddle your thumbs in LA as you wait for the patch. Remember if it isn't pink it may as well go- don't ever consider blues, greens, rares, or exotics as feasible for gearing.

Well, the site shows a +3 increase on a 48 stat item. Which is a 6.25% increase from Exotics.

For now they aren't useless.

That is until Anet introduces an another a rework the difficulty of different zones/dungeons because some players will complain that those zones/dungeons became too easy because of their new gear.

Well, not yet, but true. This could very well be the case later on.

My ultimate question, to those who like stat progression of this degree is why cosmetic progression wasn't good enough. It lasted SEVEN YEARS in GW1. This game didn't even last 3 months. What happens when you reach the new plateau? What will you do then? Wait for the next tier?

Looks like this will be a casual pvp game for me if my worst fears come into fruition.

Hmm... on second thought, I have NEVER seen that, other than in these forums.  All I see are requests for experienced players.

Please, stop catastrophizing every little thing.  The new gear gating is only gating higher levels of the feature that offers the new gear!  It's not like you need to complete the endless dungeon before you can move on to new content, you just can get further in the same repeatable content if you have these items.

OK my previous calculation was wrong, but...
48 power + 15 power = 63
50 power + 18 power = 68
5 points difference. Take that from the average of 65, that's a ~7.5% increase. And then it still has an unused upgrade slot.

These comments are so far wrong it isn’t funny.
Currently when people are shouting for partys NO ONE on my server is asking to see gear before they let you in.
Nor are any guilds…….

This is just like gw1….. without infused armor you get destroyed by the muraast.

WvW is zerg vs zerg… more people = more win.  Doesn’t matter what gear you have…….

Since there effectively making Exotics worthless in the future they should make them no longer souldbound so we can trade them and get our money back or atleast make back on some of the loss were going to be hit with now that there is gear grind in the game.

Alot of players only invested into exotics because they were led to believe by Anet there would not be vertical gear grind.

Arenanet introduces 1 new set of gear between exotic and legendary and gives good reasons for it -> scumbag arenanet for fixing the game and making it more fun.

The only useless thing will be other dungeons, considering you can get good enough gear, exotic or not and go straight to this new dungeon and work directly on ascended armor. Grinding in the normal dungeons to get exotics just so you can grind in another dungeon to get ascended is pointless.

Not yet, no. The game's nearly 3 months old. Later on though...

Any GW1 player who played Nightfall will know how "Lightbringer" and  "DoA" fit together. Its the same thing, only now instead of grinding a title, you're grinding gear. Lightbringer wasn't used in other parts of the game, but it still prevented me from actually doing the dungeon. I did not grind the points later. I did not and currently do not have the time to do so.

Exotics would not be worthless, but they would probably come down in value as ascended items would replace them.  Yes, too bad if you have bought exotics.

Looks like ArenaNet is really pushing this new content and A LOT of players would be playing it.  Seems that there is no other way to get ascended items but only through the new content.  Unlike exotics, you can't craft them.

Honestly so far Infused will only be needed in the new dungeon, but imaging the rewards everyone will rush to get it...

I just don't get why didn't they copy GW1's infusion instead...Having Infused Exotics are the way to please everyone. Sorry ANet but I don't approve this one.

If they were Legendary Armor then I'd say yes go ahead make them more esthetically, but having 4th Armor set is a bit too much for my bags to handle ... 1dps, 1 support, 1mf and now 1 Infused...34+ pieces of space taken.

If you have them already, they aren't useless, but you can bet that jewelcrafting (and later armorcrafting) them now becomes useless.  People are going to start skipping exotic gear because they are expensive and no longer the best available.  If they decrease the price, people will start skipping rare gear instead.

So you are simply replacing one set of gear with another, making an entire tier obsolete.  This is one of the pillars of the gear treadmill system and a very good reason for concern.  Its a bad move by Anet any way you slice it.

So the complaints are due to what may be, not what is or will be?

ANet might make this into the worst thing ever, so it IS going to be the worst thing ever.  In one year, this game will be nothing but gear checks.  Just gear checks and black lion chest GAMBLING.  Also, there will be absolutely no endgame, absolutely no class balance, sPvP and WvW will be dead and completely empty, everything will be bound to characters and not account, you will 100% need to use the gem store for everything.

If something could possibly, conceivably, be bad, it will exceed that badness and literally be the worst thing that ever happened to an entertainment product.  Also, screaming and creating dozens of identical threads will show them that this time FOR REALLY REALS I WANTS MY MONEY BACK.

This is kinda what I am thinking too.  The extra stats may purely just exist to make up for the loss of gems/runes.  Though we know nothing about the "Omni" infusions which sound more hybrid and powerful in nature, at least the ones we do know about are purely defensive.  So this theory would make sense.

I'm just going to try to treat this like I do with magic find gear.  Wear my main exotic gear majority of the time unless I am doing the new dungeon and need it.  UNLESS it does prove to be substantially better, otherwise this whole theory is moot.
