I think the thing to corner is any of the ingredients for infusions the second they are learned.  As well as supplies of the new resource.

They actually have a hideously low drop rate.  You're stuck killing risen krait and lvl 80 acquatic creatures in FGS or CS.

Whoot! so glad I bought all I needed.  I saw this happening.  Sux for those that need them though so i hope the market gets flooded with them soon enough to even things out.

If crystalline dust wasn't so hideously expensive now, it would be very profitable to forge t5 scales into t6. For that matter, if forging t5 dust to t6 didn't take so many skill points, that would probably even out too, and there would be a reasonable equilibrium with mat prices. The drop rate of armored scales from monsters is really terrible and mostly underwater.

What? I farmed 76 of them in 3 days. They drop rather high where I farm them...

The drop rate isn't bad for these. I farmed 50 large scales and 10 armored scales in little under an hour. I sold them when they were like 16s each so I only made about 3g.

I know you can craft gems into next tier, but I haven't seem any recipes around for forging scale and the like into next tier. Or are we talking about mystic forge recipe not crafting profession recipes? If so where can I find those recipes?

Crafting materials can be promoted using the Mystic Forge. The recipes for doing this are on the wiki. However, promotion to tier 6 requires t6 dust and has a low yield, so it doesn't seem very practical.

Ah~ thanks a lot for the link! I know t6 dust is expensive and hard to get, but from my little tour around orr I believe it is even harder to get t6 scales, and I really need those for the armor I want, unless I want to farm SE or Arah which I don't have the time to do it often (read:don't have long enough undisturbed time for dungeons). This at least gives me some different options. :)

Armored Scales hard to get? I made 8 gold in less then two hours of farming them today. People thinking scales and blood are hard to get is because nobody wants to play underwater.  There is a reason that Ancient Bone prices didn't shoot up when bots got banned, stuff exits outside of plinx, peninitent farming.

So you have to farm them underwater? I hate water, but I want to make some knight's equipment. :(

Personally i'd dump them all now. I know I did yesterday. Everyone and their brother will be in Lost Shores tomorrow which is covered in mobs described as "thick armored scaled water creatures" I give it a 110% chance that they drop armored scales, and since the entirety of the game will be farming them, even low levels, I am almost certain the price is going to plummet this weekend.

Just some friendly advice. Too bad we can't bet against the market in this game...

Useful T6 mats rare mats are up in cost in general and T5 rare mats have gone from ~15cp ea to 1s ea or more.  Basically it's fallout from bot removal.  It's good to rid the game of bots but it's hit the crafting econ a bit.  Price of ectos is on the rise also (partially due to the fact that crafting rares to break is no longer worth it due to the increased cost of T5 rares, I'd guess).  All of these items have been steadily rising in cost.

IMO, part of the problem is that even though player econ in this game sucks players still tend to accumulate wealth and people would rather buy stuff than gather stuff, including currency exchange to avoid gathering.

Therefore, as long as they keep the bots surpressed, I don't really see this changing and prices will likely continue to rise.

I would be surprised if mobs in the new area didn't drop a decent spread of T6 rare stuff but you never know, ANet doesn't always impress me with their design or balance and simple things like this often seem to elude them.

ANet could alter drop rates to benefit players now that bots are becoming less of an economy wrecking factor but I'd bet that they won't since keeping prices high and items rare steers more people towards gem purchases (or 3rd party gold purchases but fewer bots can hurt that market as well) since players are generally lazy and would too often rather buy their way thru games vs playing them.

It's very practical, if you value gold over skill points for philosophers's stones. As a rough estimate 250 t5 + 25 t6 dust = ~30 t6...when t6 blood / scales are 15-20x more expensive than the t5, it becomes significantly profitable. Just make sure you don't throw your t6 pile back in the forge!

Young Karka drop powerful blood at a reliable rate.   On my mesmer all I have to do is press two buttons to kill one: Duelist from 1200 followed by 1 feedback and they suicide themselves.

The sharks in water probably drop scales, but I killed about 50 of them during the weekend and only saw fin trash components droppping and items.
