Thief
  • Piercing Shot: Fixed an error in this skill’s damage tooltip.
  • Dancing Dagger: This skill’s damage has been reduced by 50%.
  • Blinding Powder: This skill’s recharge has been reduced from 60 seconds to 40 seconds.
  • Smoke Screen: This skill’s height has been increased to help it absorb projectiles.
  • Shadowstep: This skill is temporarily disabled underwater to keep players from circumventing walls when using it.
  • Tactical Strike: This skill’s damage has been increased by 10% in all formats. This skill’s daze duration has been reduced from 2 seconds to 1.5 seconds in PvP.
  • Leeching Venoms: This trait now scales based on the thief’s power.
  • Cluster Shot: This skill’s damage is reduced by 15% in PvP.
  • Cloak and Dagger: This skill’s damage has been reduced by 33% in PvP only.
  • Body Shot: This skill now allows players to activate other skills sooner after the ability ends.
  • Sneak Attack: This skill will now only apply the Revealed buff on the first attack that hits an opponent.
  • Stab: Damage for this skill has been normalized so that it doesn’t deal less damage from behind the target.
  • Bountiful Theft: This trait no longer applies aegis at odd times.
  • Scorpion Wire: This skill’s range has been increased to 1200.
  • Shadow Trap: This skill no longer shadowsteps the thief when the trap is triggered. This skill now has two additional abilities: The first ability becomes available when Shadow Trap is cast and will destroy the current trap. The second ability, Shadow Pursuit, becomes available when an enemy triggers the trap. The thief may choose to activate this ability and shadowstep to the enemy that triggered the trap. If this ability is not activated after 10 seconds, the ability will fade and Shadow Trap will be available.
  • Piercing Shot: This skill is now a small projectile combo finisher.
  • Ink Shot: This skill is now a projectile combo finisher.

My thoughts? Finding out the hidden nerfs for sure.

1) DD damage halved is complete bullshit.
It costs a lot, and it only deals big damage when 2 targets are near each other.
Instead of giving us more buttons they're restricting us to less.
Why nerf a skill to useless? At least improve cripple duration, decrease cost? No, let's make it useless.
No one complained about DD, why nerfing it?

2) Cluster. Another retarded nerf.
Damage down when it's already very slow and easy to dodge?
If they wanted to prevent noob thieves from spamming it on their feet, they could have made damage scale with distance (a la Ranger LB auto).

Well the DD dagger nerf means I wont even touch the skill anymore.... if they hated it that much why not just replace it? And clusterbomb nerf is stupid. I'm glad they didnt nerf BS. The Thief is meant to punish those who make stupid mistakes and BS is the epitome of that.

OH and people are gonna complain about the 1200 range Scorpion Wire. Lets see if they had and ninja nerfs. If they are severe i might just roll an engineer.

I've been using DD mainly for the cripple and not for damage. I don't think the nerf will affect my personal play style that much.

Dam they nerfed s/d harder then any other build.. Dd nerfed and daze duration decrease.. Oh well back to backstab build it guess

No idea why they made S/D weaker, it's further promoting the use of backstab. Whether it's balanced or not isn't the issue to me, it's just about build viability. Making only one build really viable is just not very interesting.

And limiting D/d to heartseeker or DB spam? Yeah thats obviously helping.

Very weak nerfs. We mesmers received much worse nerfs since we can no longer abuse line of sight. :(

Buffed my leeching venoms build. I'm fine with this over all. CnD nerf on damage kinda sucks. I'll have to see how much more damage leeching venoms does now to see if my build will still work.


However, the change to blinding powder is nice. May have to try running with it.

IDK a 3 second blind/stealth on a 40sec CD? Im still gonna take SS and Shadowstep instead. :P

LOL guys DD -crits- for 1200-1400 with 83 crit dmg. Retarded.

I'd rather have blinding powder back on higher CD, even though it's my favourite skill, and DD back, uh, worth using?

PS: Backstab tooltip shows no damage nerf. Let me down some people and we'll see what's the truth.

So steal doesn't interrupt CnD? Mug and back stab do full damage? And s/d got nerfed to hell? Did I miss anything?

Whatever those dev quotes were, were talking about the far future when they actually might give a damn about PvP balance. Bunkers were hardly touched either.

Dissapointed. For a so called "Big Patch" these changes were main focused on skill, but not on traits or number tweaks. The lackluster builds as venoms, traps, P/P and others are still lackluster and what's even worse, they had nerfed one of the "viable" builds, S/D.

Lol those do not even affect the current popular thief build..Take a look of the ele changes and watch how the only reason being taken into tourneys ..disappear.

Seems like backstab is fine but I'm not entirely sure.
Cluster bomb hitting for 3.5k was a bad joke tho.

The thief culling issue is still there :P so there something they said they were gonna fix but didnt. Maybe they cant. Maybe thats why they just nerf c&d?

U know i think I might just take a break until they bring the ritualist back out :D

My CnD doesn't appear to be nerfed in WvW so I'm guessing short bow isn't either, will do more testing and get back to you all later.

I don't get it...

They don't touch the BS build, but go ahead and make S/D weaker and shortbow less effective...

I guess they really want everyone to continue running around with just D/D.

Not impressed.  I was hoping we'd have more viable builds, not less.

More than ever now I want a new off hand weapon to go with sword.  I hate /p  /dagger was my main and it got screwed over, and worst of all, still no other options.

I think the weapon choices are fine. Go play an ele if you want more options.

This is so sad, that it’s funny. I’m laughing at how ridiculous arenanet is.

They screwed thieves all over the place. I thought backstab was what they were going to nerf, but indeed all these scrubs are crying about the whole thief profession, not just backstab. I did not think arenanet would listen to them, and turn thieves into amputated crutch wearers – but they did.

I’m sure this won’t be the end of it. There are many thief nerfs that anet and scrubs left unfinished. Stealth, more damage reductions across the board, etc – I don’t spend enough time on these forums to see everything you useless mongoloids are crying about (who am I kidding, you’re crying about everything thief related).

Thieves were sent to a maximum security prison, under false pretenses and without due process, to be kitten by the biggest black man in the facility – and the worst is yet to come.

Some complete garbage in here, and some good stuff.

1. Tactical strike change = Annoying as hell. I understand why they did it, but this on top of the Dancing daggers nerf mean's overall you just feel weaker and that's problematic..

2. Blinding powder... This makes it better but it's still going to get largely ignored. If you were going to dartboard buff, should've given it condition removal.

3. Cluster shot... I understand the strength of the shortbow and also their interest in encouraging other weapon sets than the SB.

4. Scorpion Wire....More of a WvW thing imo but considering the new PvP map...who knows.

5. CnD ...saw this coming, not gonna complain

Shadow trap sounds hot and It's going to be fun trying it out.

S/D in general.
DD nerfed, CnD nerfed, Tactical nerfed.
Reminded of Guild wars 1 all over again. How you gonna kill half and 33% of our damage on 2/5 skills then nerf our shutdown and think 10% damage mean's jack squat?

Going to have to put down the Sword for now and pick up the daggers

Disappointed, this has been really useful in leveling up my thief and softening up mobs for an easy clean up in leveling in the main game, for PvP its applications were hardly existent.
