11/15/12 Elementalist Changes

  • Ride the Lightning: This skill should now track moving enemies more reliably.
  • Magnetic Grasp: This skill should now track moving enemies more reliably and end correctly when you reach your target.
  • Evasive Arcana: This trait no longer creates unintended blast finishers.
  • Ether Renewal: This skill’s cast time has been reduced from 4.75 to 3.5 seconds. There is no change to the total amount of healing.
  • Healing Rain: This skill’s tooltip now states the correct duration of 6 seconds.
  • Armor of Earth: This skill’s tooltip now states the correct duration of 6 seconds.
  • Churning Earth: This skill’s description no longer references “hold and release.”
  • Signets of Earth, Air, Fire, and Water: These skills should now have a cast animation while wielding a Fiery Greatsword.
  • Ring of Fire: This skill on Conjure Flame now lists itself as a Fire combo field.
  • Dragon’s Tooth: The blast finisher for this skill now triggers at the spell location rather than the character’s location.
  • Magnetic Wave: This skill’s missile-reflect portion now has an accompanying icon.
  • Phoenix: This skill’s tooltip now states the correct duration of 5 seconds of vigor that this skill applies.
  • Blasting Staff and Geomancer’s Alacrity: These traits now work together for the Eruption skill.
  • Mist Form: This skill now works with the Water Magic trait Cantrip Mastery.
  • Soothing Wave: This skill now properly applies regeneration to the elementalist when using Conjure Frost rather than only when the bow is picked up.
  • Healing Ripple: This skill’s scaling with healing power has been reduced by 50% in PvP only, as it had scaling that’s normally reserved for main healing skills. The maximum number of targets has also been reduced from infinite to 5.
  • Obsidian Focus: This Earth Magic trait now grants toughness when channeling the Stone Shards skill.
  • Ice Spike: This skill’s tooltip now states the correct amount of vulnerability when traited.
  • Conjure Frost Bow’s Deep Freeze: This skill now applies 1 second of chill per pulse, preventing extreme stacking of chill on a target.
  • Conjure Frost Bow’s Ice Storm: This skill now applies 5 seconds of bleeding per hit instead of confusion.
  • Tidal Wave: This skill’s responsiveness has been improved.
  • Tornado: Leaving this elite skill now removes the stability it grants in order to make it consistent with other elite transformation abilities.
  • Vapor Form: Fixed a bug that allowed this skill to contest a capture point.
  • Flame Axe: This weapon now grants the wielder power and condition damage.
  • Frost Bow: This weapon now grants the wielder increased condition duration and increased healing power.
  • Fiery Greatsword: This weapon now grants the wielder power and condition damage.
  • Magnetic Shield: This weapon now grants the wielder vitality and toughness.
  • Lightning Hammer: This weapon now grants the wielder increased precision and critical damage.
RTL Fix, finally!
A bit sad about the healing ripple nerf. Shouldn't affect too many builds though, other than bunker perhaps.
Ether Renewal is starting to look rather appealing. Faster pulses=worth it if interrupted/canceled early?

Can anyone test out evasive arcana? The patch notes on it was rather vague. Does it still finish when not on CD?

The big changes are Evasive Arcana nerf (or fix) and the Mist Form fix.

Oh, and the nerf to the boon duration runes will indirectly affect many ele builds.

i have mixed feeling..i feel like we were nerfed.Are there any blast finishes in evasive arcana now?Why wont they remove the crappy and useless traits :( ?
And that stat increase on conjures..i bet it must be really negligible

Can we get confirmation from someone in game who can test this, were the blast finishers removed from evasive arcana or not?  I imagine that if they actually removed the blast finishers from this many support eles will be wearing their sad faces this evening.

Well bunker ele is history now..I guess guardians only have that priviledge

i'm guessing the blast finishers that were being triggered even when the spells it created were on cooldown have been removed.

Oh well..good job at making a very interesting trait into complete garbage while not adding anything remotely interesting in our trait lines. And i dont hink im whining here.That trait was fun and now its not for the sake of "balance".Like bunker ele was the real problem with the meta

This is ridiculous. Mist form CD reduction bugfix, useless buffs on the conjures, but otherwise JUST NERFS?

Evasive arcana not even a blast finisher when the cd is ready? Ridiculous, it's a grandmaster trait ffs.
Boon duration reduction on the runes hits us harder than other professions.

Healing nerfs.

And not a single cd reduction or damage increase.

I'm out, this game isn't worth playing any longer as an elementalist, which will never get the balance patch they need (and deserve).

Ele had 1 spec left after the COUNTLESS nerfs. Now it's 0. Good job arenanet, good job.

I would have had no quarrel with nerfing bunkers if they had given us a frakking choice to spec any other build. But as it is ele is dead.

I'm sorry but What the hell is ANET thinking.  Leave glass canon thieves alone, let bunker guardian sit on a point 1 v 5, but nerf an ele's ability to bunker and seriously mitigate their ability to support their team?  Not only was it difficult to do correctly, it was fun as hell to play.  Were they in a meeting trying to figure out how to get elementalists out of their game?  If so they hit their mark.

while i do feel the same way, i hope to see ele roamer making a comeback since thiefs are nerfed pretty hard aswell. we will see.
personally i think it is very reasonable to nerf boon durations since i could keep up protection and regen permanetly on everybody on a node but the complete removal of burst finishers does nerf our support capabilites more then bunkering.
then again, the lack of guard nerfs is ... i dont even

btw, we propably arent even useful for treb killing anymore. LF new class to play.

overall, im very sad today.

I can confirm that mist form is, indeed, still a 75 second cooldown with the cantrip trait.

Wow, I can't believe that. Had to test it myself to make sure there was no trolling, but sadly I must confirm that its still bugged. Tooltip shows 60, cooldown is still 75. Weak sauce.

This just in: Dragon's tooth isn't a blast finisher anymore. Some guy on the official forum tested it.

It gets more ridiculous by the minute.

Don't you know yet? Anet only makes sure that nerfs work. Bugfixes and buffs are never tested.

No it really isn't a blast any more, even if it lands inside the field.

Well it completely destroyed ele utility in dungeons too so at least they are consistent there. They were completely successful in gutting the only viable spec ele had, both in pvp and pve.

Someone high at arenanet must have been killed by an ele in BWE1 and since then is on a vendetta against them.

OH and get this, apparently not even worth mentioning in patch notes:

-Auras gained from combo fields no longer work with Elemental Shielding or Zephyr’s boon
