Elementalist changes in the 11/15 patch

Buffs to conjures, everything else was either a bug fix or a tooltip fix.

why doe sit seem like every patch that ele just gets nerfed in some way? i feel it can use some sort of buff

I was genuinely excited for profession updates until I read the Elementalist changes. A couple of good changes there, but the magnitude of tooltip changes was ridiculous. Also, wtf evasive arcana? It's a 30 point trait, it should be impressive. Arcana and water felt pretty good where they were at. Earth is pretty decent as well. Why nerf one of the few viable trait lines with no real buff to Fire and Air (absolute pathetic lines to trait into in PvP due to elementalists abysmal hp pool).

Evasive Arcana nerf = fffffffffffffff. Guess I just pick up Sigil of Battle and spec more for personal damage rather than aoe might stacking

i don't wanna sound condescending but that fact that it created blast finishers even when the attunement spell it was supposed to create was on cd shoudl have been an indication that something wasnt working as intended

I'll just reroll a Thief, i'm really upset!!

All the fix are downgrade (Phoenix, Healing Rain, Armor of Earth, etc) plus we also get Evasive Arcana nerfed omfg!!

Unless Evasive Arcana is now bugged, and really meant to give one blast per attunement, that's a really bad move.

Well bye bye sweet Elementalist for now. I am really disappointed. Evasive Arcana, Tornado...what is next? I'll wait for a true balance patch now. Not saying I couldn't come up with another build but..I'm so tired of this now. I'll rather play the Elementalist I used to know from GW1..but I am kind of sad now because of this =/

If you want to play the elementalist from GW1, find a PUG and use a staff. The GW1 elementalist does not exist because that game had heroes/henchmen that allowed you to do whatever you want (which generally was something like, spamming searing flames). That sort of gameplay doesn't exist while playing solo.

Having said that, I agree that the grandmaster traits are in general way too lackluster. Although I thought spending 30 points in arcane was generally a waste, anyway.

(Just asking curiously) Am I missing something here? The fixes you mention were just tooltip fixes as far as I can see, in that Phoenix already applied 5 seconds of vigor, just the tooltip said differently... so it's hardly nerfed.

Same kind of thing for Evasive, in that did the tooltip say that it created blast finishers previously? or did it just do it anyway? (in which case it's just a fix and while the bug was beneficial it can't be considered a nerf).

EA earth casts churning earth. Churning earth is a blast finisher. EA earth is NOT a blast finisher. How is this not a nerf?

I think the people in charge of balance really have it out for Eles. Only our nerfs seem to be working. Conjure weapon buffs don't count cause they're still terrible. Buh

Because when the patch notes said "removed unintended blast finishers" I'd have understood it not to remove that particular finisher from EA in earth? Or has it been tested already and proved that they did?

I just would have interpreted the notes in a way that ele's were getting blast finishers they weren't meant to, perhaps while in another attunement?

Of course it has been tested.

Also Jon Peters said in the ranger thread why eles always get nerfed: They only have 2 people working on class balance. One plays thief/guardian and the other mesmer/warrior.

According to ingame:

Evasive Arcana: Each spell (the blast finishers) can be triggered once every 10 seconds.

D/D elementalists just got their death certificate. I will try to make mine work, but I might have to hang it up and go staff depending on how bad the damage drop actually is.

Well I find it hard to believe that an unintended blast finisher was one that was stated on the tooltip.

So either the tooltip for churning earth for EA was wrong, and fine it's a nerf. Or by removing the unintended BF's from EA they accidentally removed that one too.

I'd assumed that EA was fixed to only provide the blasts when the spells went off rather than on every dodge, if that isn't the case it does suck a lot and pretty much means that the only reason to go beyond Arcane 10 is if you run a staff (where 20 is still necessary.)

Other than that, yeah, it's mostly tooltip fixes (although I noticed some persist but they are technically equipment bugs I guess - like Runes of Lyssa not changing the tooltip Eruption duration, etc.)

The only really interesting thing I'd like to note is that the Conjure changes are probably very good for leveling.  The Hammer build was already very popular and this change can only make it stronger.

After spending that much time and effort building a support ele around Evasive Arcana...

It was fun while it lasted, now I got to bin it!

Then again, I'm going to test it again myself when I get home from work tonight.

Serious?  Or was that a joke?  It's somewhat hard to believe they don't have people working on all classes for balance issues, but on the other hand it did take them over 6 years to attempt a fix for eles in GW1, so this lack of attention isn't entirely without precedence.

Just tested on mobs and in LA on dummies, got into combat, casted the combo fields, and dodged into them in different attunements.

None of the EA effects are blast finishers now. The churning earth animation goes off, dummy takes damage, but no blast finisher effect. Same with the other attunements. :(

So I guess, our only blast finishers in staff goes back to eruption + arcane wave... Time to move on to other builds lol...

Man EA is a HUGE loss.  NOT only does it remove the "unintended finishers" but also the finishers from the evasive arcane spells themselves.  There goes my battery build =/

That's just poor really. Thus far I've gotten away without using Arcane Wave which then gave one extra utility slot to play with. Not to mention Eruption needing time to activate. Absolutely gutted over this, but as you say there's nothing left to do other than look at other builds. Either that or I'll leave both my necro and ele to simmer for a bit, and work on another profession. :unsure: Gotta admit, EA was real fun to use back then!

Ok, WTF.  Evasive Arcana is like the only 30-point Elementalist trait that's legitimately cool, and then only because it means you have access to blast finishers with regularity all the time as long as you manage your Energy.

This is..... this is ridiculous.  Why the hell am I even playing this profession if all the cools things they can do get nerfed or straight-up removed?
