Hello to all fellow Guild Wars 2 players ;)

I've a problem that I encountered today that basically doesn't let me play anymore. I launched the game, and there was an update (16 Nov), probably for the Lost Shores event. I let it update and after that, I tried to launch the game. The result? The pc crashed. It basically restarted itself. Tried again, the pc freezed. Tried the third time, it crashed again. It has never happend before and I could play the game without crashes or anything similar. And now I am really pissed off, not knowing what the hell's going on. My friend can launch the game without any problems after the update. I was really excited about the even and now this happens. Everything messes up in such RIGHT time

Did this happen to anyone else? Thanks for the help in advance. :(

A similar problem is affecting me after the latest update. The game starts, but when I load a character it crashes after a few seconds.

The problem was solved yesterday, luckily. Here's what I did (got help from my buddy's guild):

Run (windows key + R) > msconfig > services, hide windows services > uncheck the rest > restart PC.

This helped me, hopefully it'll help the rest of you too. And hopefully no more crashes either <_<

Edit: Aaand apparently this doesn't work anymore either. Tried to play just now.. same damn thing happend. Count me really pissed off.  -____-'' I don't know what to do now.

Same problem. The strangest thing is that it did run once out of my 15-20 attempts.

If it never ran then I'd be less puzzled but why will it very occasionally run but 9/10 times crash?

Maybe Anet added RNG to the launcher ha ha ha....but seriously I am pissed I'm gonna miss the entire event at this rate

Possible fix (worked for me anyway)

Rename/delete/move the "local.dat" file in your GW2 directory.

Mine launched first time after this and I have had better FPS than ever

I'm not crashing, but I basically can't load the game. I  can log in, get to character select (albeit a bit slower than usual), but then the map itself either won't load, or takes forever  and then 50-85% of the npcs are invisible and I'm lagging like a mofo.

Tried again today, logged in, pressed 'play'...  now it gives me a 'screen flicking problem'... and I basically have to restart my computer, 'cause nothing else works. The mouse lags, the screen is black, all I see is the window flashing.

And by the way, I can't seem find the ''local.dat'' file

I'm having the same problem, except I can't even get to the character selection screen. I installed the update yesterday and I was able to play as usual, then today I installed a smaller update and I still can't play

Make sure all your drivers are up to date.

I'm not getting any blue screen, but my pc does crash VERY frequently. I never had any problem whatsoever before the lost shores.

My pc is more than capable of running any game on the market atm, all my drivers are up to date and everything started after the update.

It makes me feel sort of good that I'm not the only one, but it's a major issue and it's worrying me in the same time that so many people have it.

Something similar is happening to me, except I can't even get the launcher to work. It locks up when I run the launcher and have to end the process through task manager. Everything else seems to be working fine.

The most recent update has not addressed this issue.

Well, nothing works here. I've lost the event thanks to this problem and worst of all I cannot play GW2 anymore at all -_-'' Pewpewenthusiast is right though, at least you know you're not the only one having this... seemingly these crashes and similar are happening most probably because of the update, and if so, it should be fixed...

In my case, I open up the launcher and when it runs the initial patch scan and gets to the login screen, my PC completely freezes.
Worst thing is, since that first happened, I have been having troubles turning my PC on - when I give it the power, I have to reset it two more times for the boot screen to come up O.o
So, to be frank, I'm scared of trying to turn it on to check if it will freeze again, it may have a negative effect on my HDD or GPU and don't want to risk it before some known solution. =/

Im not crashing or anything but since the big update guess it was the 16th just noticed it yesterday my fps is like 18-21 normally its 45-50 if im in wvw and around a big group it will drop to about 20-25 something like that. I noticed that alot of people are noticing there fps to be like this as well since the update. Also someone else posted this in the regular guild wars 2 forums. He decided to delete the local dat file I did the samething but it didnt fix it. Hopefully soon they fix whatever is going on havent had any problems with my game play. But it just bothers me for some reason.

This update seems to really be a mayor issue for lots of people :-/ today I uninstalled the game and started downloading again. Still at 2% one hour and a half later. Gonna be a loooong wait.. let's see if this'll fix it, though I seriously doubt it... I don't know where that local dat file is supposed to be though..

Edit: Left my computer on the whole night for this damn slow-butt download... Logged in, worked. Then I had to log out and when I tried again, same crap happend. And now I am at the start again, with the game no working. WTF!!?

Ok, i "fixed" mine. I didn't try to launch it again until today, when I noticed a new patch came. It patched with no problem, I have yet to test to see if it will work normally, I just don't have the time right now. When I do, I will update with results.

I just wanted to make a late update - everything is fine after the other patch. I don't see any difference in performance either, although I play on mid-low settings.
That sucks fahrar =/

It seems as we have the same problem, but well I fixed mine by deleting the "Local.dat" located at GW2 main directory normally located at
if XP: C:\Program Files\Guild Wars 2\Local.dat
if Win7: C:\Program Files(86)\Guild Wars 2\Local.dat or you can type in your pc's search engine: Local.dat and it will automatically find it.
Deleting the Local.dat  worked for me I hope it will work for you as well, cheers :)
