I've a problem that I encountered today that basically doesn't let me play anymore. I launched the game, and there was an update (16 Nov), probably for the Lost Shores event. I let it update and after that, I tried to launch the game. The result? The pc crashed. It basically restarted itself. Tried again, the pc freezed. Tried the third time, it crashed again. It has never happend before and I could play the game without crashes or anything similar. And now I am really pissed off, not knowing what the hell's going on. My friend can launch the game without any problems after the update. I was really excited about the even and now this happens. Everything messes up in such RIGHT time
Did this happen to anyone else? Thanks for the help in advance.

Run (windows key + R) > msconfig > services, hide windows services > uncheck the rest > restart PC.
This helped me, hopefully it'll help the rest of you too. And hopefully no more crashes either
Edit: Aaand apparently this doesn't work anymore either. Tried to play just now.. same damn thing happend. Count me really pissed off. -____-'' I don't know what to do now.

If it never ran then I'd be less puzzled but why will it very occasionally run but 9/10 times crash?
Maybe Anet added RNG to the launcher ha ha ha....but seriously I am pissed I'm gonna miss the entire event at this rate

Rename/delete/move the "local.dat" file in your GW2 directory.
Mine launched first time after this and I have had better FPS than ever

My pc is more than capable of running any game on the market atm, all my drivers are up to date and everything started after the update.
It makes me feel sort of good that I'm not the only one, but it's a major issue and it's worrying me in the same time that so many people have it.

Worst thing is, since that first happened, I have been having troubles turning my PC on - when I give it the power, I have to reset it two more times for the boot screen to come up O.o
So, to be frank, I'm scared of trying to turn it on to check if it will freeze again, it may have a negative effect on my HDD or GPU and don't want to risk it before some known solution. =/

It seems as we have the same problem, but well I fixed mine by deleting the "Local.dat" located at GW2 main directory normally located at
if XP: C:\Program Files\Guild Wars 2\Local.dat
if Win7: C:\Program Files(86)\Guild Wars 2\Local.dat or you can type in your pc's search engine: Local.dat and it will automatically find it.
Deleting the Local.dat worked for me I hope it will work for you as well, cheers
