Why do we have to craft everything?

I hate gathering materials.
but at the moment that seems to be the only method of getting items of any cool factor.
am i missing something?
doing dungeons rarely gives you anything.
killings mobs never gives you anything.

You don't need to craft anything at all. Just sell what you get from dungeons and mobs, and with the money buy at the Trading Post.

Why do you have to kill anything
Why do you have to wander the game world
Why do you have to create a character
Why do you have to do anything in a game.
Answer you don't
I also don't happen to think crafted items look any better than dropped or reward items.
Now if they let us choose the final look as part of the crafting then we would have something

What are you talking about specifically? All crafted armor, in terms of stats, are available from dungeon badges, and all weapons too. So far there isn't exotic jewelry from dungeons, but that's about it. If you want the crafted armor skins, yeah, you can just buy them off the TP.

Why are you complaining about having to play the game to get your stuff? Sounds like you don't enjoy the game at all...

Yep kind of disappointed that there aren't specific monsters/dungeons/DEs that drop an armor/weapon skin that can't be found anywhere else. Tokens aren't the same thing...you aren't as happy (and/or frustrated) when you get dungeon tokens as you would be if you could find a special skin.
Getting the best equipment available should be easy, but it seems that in GW2 there isn't a rare armor or weapon skin...there's almost nothing that depends on sheer luck (don't mention the BLC).

I prefer it not to have the random drop element. This is a feature for me.

But we do have the token system which is good. I just wish the random mystic forge skins could drop from things as well.

you are a great reader. (End sarcasm)
I want to play the game to get gear. I dont want to craft or just buy off the trading post. Thats not fun for me. I want to go deep into a dungeon and find a rare piece. I want to search for that champion monster and get his special weapon. I want to finish a jumping puzzle to find something special.
Buying from the trading post is not playing the game.

That sounds too much like GW1, the WoW fans here are not going to like it.

I had hoped that killing shit would be the primary way of playing the game, with everything else supporting this. As it turns out, the game a mishmash of 3 million parts and you are actually expected to do a ton of these activities with the game punishing you severely if you opt out of them.
I want to log in for a few hours, kill shit and feel like I achieved something. But unless I kill shit WHILE pretending to be playing Harvest Moon/Mario and making purses, the game puts my progression at a halt.

Making money doing anything you like in the game is, though.
But I guess some people prefer the RNG method...

I can't help wondering though, when did RPGs become about compiling shopping lists while studying wiki-pages?

It beats the hell out of compiling shopping lists while studying wiki-pages.
I don't know what wiki-pages have to do with playing the game, but ok...
I do whatever I like in the game. It makes me money. When I have enough, I buy what I like. Sure beats the hell out grinding the same mob over again and hope for a lucky drop.

although I don't think the crafted skins should come from anywhere else than crafting. It would make craft even more completely useless than it already is.
I think there should be more and better looking skin and that some should only be found in certain place or certain monster. I really, really hate this "everything drop anything" method that most MMO are using now. It makes everything look like unneeded trash.

And your 'grinding the same mob' argument is a straw man fallacy. That's not the only way to work random drops into a game.

Because rezoning bosses for hours on end in GW hm to get their greens was sooooo fun. Also, you might want to check the patch notes, apparently there's unique gear that drops from certain bosses in certain dungeons now.

Really? There are random drops throughout the game. You can get rares/exotics from mobs. You can get precursors from mobs or chests. You can get the special Shaman's Etched Weapons as drops, for completion of FGS or from the Jormag chest. That's all random.
You do not have to craft. You can go kill mobs to get loot. There are hundreds of armor and weapon galleries for you to find stuff, or go see what you like in the PvP locker and take a screenshot and ask someone on here.
RNG is an annoyance and should not be forced on anyone that doesn't want to grind mobs to get drops and thank god that it's not. If you're saying that grinding the same mob isn't the only way to put unique drops into the game, how else do you propose? Have unique drops from the same type of enemy? If so, how is that any different from grinding the same mob? Please, tell us these other ways to incorporate RNG drops into the game without it becoming a single-mob grind.
