Gear: whatever. find something that looks cool.
Skills: doesn't matter. things you can use from max range. Nobody will notice.
Strategy:
find a warrior or guardian and follow it around, making sure to always be as far away as possible (1200). You don't really need skill points (or skill) or traits or even the hero tab to stand at max range and press three buttons. stay in fire 100% of the time, fire off auto attack and put down lava font when it's off CD (or just alt-tab, doesn't really matter). You will be really far away and most likely bored but worry not, those people you are following around are having lots of fun finishing your fields for you and stacking might to the ceiling and doing other fun stuff for you. Think of them as your fun surrogates. You wanted to be support, didn't you?
Grab a staff, put the points wherever you'd like and pick anything, wear whatever, draw some skills out of a hat, leave your skill slots empty forever, what difference does it make in PvE?
Enjoy the new spec. The best part is that it's almost impossible for your expectations to be any lower. Now go out there and git 'er done!
I'm thinking of making a video to show how uber this spec is in dungeons. Pretty sure nobody in a dungeon would be able to figure out my uber spec or even notice any difference between this one and others.

I run (no longer effective since nerf) EA/staff/cantrip build and I enjoyed it because it was fun! Now there are still viable PvE builds like the one I ran before which was an earth staff (could work on s/d if u changed Blasting Staff) bleed build. Was it effective? Yes, stacked lots of bleeds. But what is fun about strafing around while you repeatedly cast eruption and your other earth skills as needed/off CD? Nothing, at least to me. Occasionally, I'd switch to water for healing but that's about it. I couldn't do blast finishers except putting down eruption b4 i went to water and casting Frozen Ground. But that was about it. Casting eruption and switching attunements just to lay down aoes for blast finish would be ruining my potential dmg more than helping. My teammates couldn't synchronize their fields w/ my eruption because eruption takes a few seconds to go off and their field must be on top of it. That would require coordination that doesn't happen in PUGs. Overall, I liked the build but once i switched to my current (now ineffective) build I didn't look back because I realized that the earth bleed build wasn't that fun.
