There are two investigation missions that are part of this event. Both are bugged right now and cannot be completed on alot of servers.

Here is a more pictorial version if you guys need: http://dulfy.net/201...es-event-guide/

Investigation #1

Talk to Inspector Ellen Kiel in Grand Plaza of LA, she will tell you to head down the beach near Moran Memorial

1. Go to the Moran Memorial and inspect the Jetsam, Broken Cargo Container, and Ruptured Cargo Barrel in that order. Then you take a crowbar and open the Sealed Cargo Barrel. Afterwards you return to the inspector for another dialog chain which leads you to Blingg at the Consortium portal west of Fort marriner.

2. He then sends you to find Subdirector Noll. Subdirector Noll is in Caledon Forest, near Hanto Trading Post, he perioidcally spawns an event to intimidate his guards but there are alot of people in the area so you may not get the kill credit to speak to him. He will send you an item in the mail.

3. Now head to Canach in SE corner of Kessex Hills (Wizard's Clef, go west of Garenhoff), talk to him and attack him to receive a map of Southsun Cove.

4. Now head back to Inspector Ellen Kiel and receive a jug of karma for your hard work.

Investigation #2

There's a second investigation chain that runs with this. Talk to Miyani near the mystic forge.  He sends you to 3 places.

1. A quaggan in Caledon Forest (Stormwreck Deeps POI near east portion of the map). You have to collect items to jog her memory. She gives you a magic scroll if you collect seaweed, sea urchin and sea scallop (in any order). Do not give her driftwood or coral head. Doing so will reset her memories and you will need to collect the 3 item again.

2. A Hylek in Michoan Marsh in Metrica Province. You collect 4 elements into a jar. He gives you an Alchemical Potion. Try the combination Fire –> Jolt –> Water –> Earth

3. A Largos in Viathan Lake in Kessex Hills. If he is not attackable, there is a chest next to him that you can loot to receive the Strange Shell.

4. Return to Researcher Levvi in Lion's arch to receive 5 Captain's Council Commendations

Why is everything in GW2 so buggy?
It makes you wonder about the integrity of the engine they used.

People asked the same question before about other MMOs and buggy quests (i.e. TSW). One dev provided a response which i thought shed light on the situation. When they design these quests on their alpha servers and test them, everything works. However, once you push it on the live servers with a massive amount of people just interacting with the NPC, the quest bugs out. So it is not that they don't test them, just some bugs don't reveal themselves until you have hundreds of people interacting with it at the same time.

Thanks for the guide, Dulfy!

I was stuck for a good half hour on the first part of the quest because I thought I needed to collect something from each sealed barrel. It's a good thing I checked your guide before wasting anymore time.

Thank you for the info, dulfy. Hopefully this'll do something to stop the influx of rage on almost every mapchat overflow.

I've played different MMOs over the past decade, and none have been as buggy on the "The content can be done" side than GW2.

I don't think guests will find GW2 very appealing with so many buggy events...

I kind-of hope GW2 flops, at this point.
The Agony mechanic even being put forward and launched, even if it's removed later, killed my vision of GW2.

The agony mechanic is a specific mechanic uniquely found in a new type of content that is separate from the rest of Tyria and it's content. Quiet the over reaction to say it killed your vision of the game considering you can completely ignore it.

I can ignore the only content in the game that has any sort of longevity or dynamic interest? Okay.
That's no arguement for how asinine the Agony mechanic is, though.

We're wildly off-topic,though. PM me if you want to know how wrong you are.

Tried doing the wreckage.
Still can't do it, even if I try going in order by doing Jetsams first. I keep getting "this isnt relevant".

Did you talk to Inspector Ellen Kiel first? Some people had the same issue as you but turns out they didn't talk to her first.

Fortunately for them, most trial players will be focusing on starter content, and won't see as many issues.

yes i did.
apparently it has something to do with crowbars only working if you get them from a barrel and not the ones on the ground, i'll try in a bit.

offtopic: Dulfy, did you see my comment on your site for the clock tower guide? It was some advice on that certain part you were saying you had some trouble with and im sure most people as well.

edit: nope still cant get it to work.

Do you recall what the comment was? Sorry my memory is a bit blurry.

Anyways, the latest fix/build seemed to fixed Canach and Fahd on alot of servers so i updated the guide of those part.

Maybe they should make these quests in instances instead of open world. Always bugs out when hundreds of people are in the same area.

Well, I finally managed to talk to Noll and the sylvari guy afterwards. Then I get the items, go back and Miyani won't give me the relevant dialogue options to get started on the second phase >.>.

Yeah...as much as I've given Anet allowances I'm kind of giving up. Noll was bugged for a full day on Desolation, and from the sounds of it the largos was bugged when I was in Kessex Hills. Makes me wish they'd just go back to instanced areas and just have communal hubs in towns etc, bugged every step of the way.

Sorry the Miyani questline was removed for phase 2 and is independent of the Investigation by Inspector Ellen Kiel. Sorry I should have made that more clear.

Sure, they got scaled up if they went to LA or LS, but I talked to several trial players, and mostly they were focused on playing through the starter areas, exploring, learning the games mechanics, and having a fine old time.

That isn't to say that no trial accounts tried the new content or were affected by all the problems, I just don't think it was an issue for a lot of them.
