My group and I are trying to perfect our current composition so we can reach the furthest levels of FoTM as possible. Clearly we're gonna need to utilize combo fields as well as possible in order to battle these further difficulties. Previously I'd just use my ele to water field + blast blast blast blast via dodge roll to keep the group topped off, but that is no longer an option. Our tank is a warrior, and we're considering whether or not he should try out offhand axe for the axe '5' whirling finisher than can cause healing bolts in a water field.

The problem is, we've never seen how effective water field whirls are, so we tried to test it. I simply got a ranger to drop healing spring, and had him whirl with his axe inside of it as we all gathered around (we took damage via HoM bonfire), and none of us were receiving any effects other than the healing spring itself. Has anyone gotten whirls to work, and what kind of results have you gotten?

TL;DR Can't get water field whirls to do anything, what results are you getting? What do the bolts even do? Is this a reliable source of healing?

it's almost impossible to sustain heal in this game.As an ele,i suggest you get the increase AoE size trait,and the water atu cd reduced by 20% and start spamming them.Together with the water elemental elite and your autoattack,you should be able to sustain regen for a long time,spike damage being healed by each player using their skills.I recommend having a guard in your group,so you can pretty much keep regen on nonstop.Also,having a tank taking care of himself solves a lot of issues

Back before the game was launched, I am sure most of us can remember the first time we were introduced to the concept of combos and finishers - one of the most used scenarios in videos was a firewall laid and another player walk in and starts whirling around shooting fire bolts in all directions.

That was exactly how I expected Whirling Defense to work in any combo field, but reality is it fires off one single pathetic little bolt right at the end of the skill duration and that's it.
The rest of the duration I might as well not be on any field at all.

I see that the skill's interaction with combo fields has been tweaked in the most recent patch notes, but I have yet get around to testing it.

EDIT: Yep, I think its fixed. Plenty of bolt flinging now.
