I've seen this justification a few times now in relation to this issue and I find it a bit strange. Does this argument suggest that when it comes to games we should just sit back and take whatever publishers throw at us? Apart from anything, I find it odd business practice that a company would willingly disenfranchise a proportion of their customers.
Here is a quote from Matt Witter regarding night capping in WvW:
"We feel that everyone should have the ability to contribute no matter what time of the day it is. How we’ve came to this conclusion is that no player’s time is more valuable than another. Everyone has different off peak hours for whatever reason. Players should not be punished or unable to experience and view the same content as everyone else because they play at a different time. They too are paying customers."
It seems like it is a good excuse for them to wash their hands of a problem in WvW but not a good enough reason to offer every one of their customers the same opportunity to do a "spectacular one-time world event".

However, am i now outraged that i didnt get a few exotics and a 20 slot bag? Am i going to bitch and moan because of this? No, its still just a game and im too old to care about stuff like this. That said, you as a parent should be too, in my opinion. In fact, you stated you chose not to do the event, did you not? That implies that you technically could have been there... Why didnt you just log into your son's account and do the event for him, wake him in the morning and say: "look at what daddy got you.." ? ... that way he wouldnt have had to miss out on "all the cool stuff the kids in the US got"
As for the lag, i didnt really have any. There were just issues with rendering which caused the mobs to be invisible untill they steamrolled you.
This is something I did in fact try when I realised what he was missing out on. But after several relogs and only getting overflows where it was too late, I figured the chance was gone. Only after I had to get to bed myself, did it become apparent that some overflows were still getting it. If I had realised, just how good the rewards were, I probably would have tried to leave both accounts afk auto attacking in the hope of getting the reward. (It really was unplayable for us.) Unfortunately I had no way to know that they would offer rewards of a magnitude never before seen. In fact I was astonished by them, considering how many players were excluded from the content. We had no reason to suspect anything other than another laggy unplayable mess with mediocre to no reward.
None of this however, has any bearing on the real issue. Which is Anet not including as many as possible in content from their worldwide playerbase.

And yet they have stated quite clearly that they are working on rewarding people that did take part of the event but for some reason got disconnected and couldn't loot/do the boss.

I would say that doing the event at the time of highest concurrency (which means the time when the highest amount of people are logged in) was a rather good way to include as many as possible.

I know what concurrency is. The last I remember hearing was a peak 300K plus concurrent users, from 2 million plus accounts sold. I won't insult you, I am sure you can work out that this is a pretty small proportion. For a worldwide company, it is not good enough.

Maybe they could start doing finale events every 6 hours if they stopped the "once in a lifetime event that will change the world forever" stuff. Not everybody has the luxury of being able to adjust their schedule around a video game.
I do and its great. Im in the adult industry so I make my own shedule. I Game for 6-8hrs a day watch some TV / Movies and wait around for the next cool one time event. Finally a game that catters too me.

An alternative that this company used in the past, to great success, which didn't defeat any entire purpose.
Just another step backwards, imo.

An alternative that this company used in an INSTANCED game. Persistent != Instanced.

no, but that does not mean that we should nitpick about every detail either. Ofcourse, the multiple events a day system of GW1 was far superior and yes i wouldve liked to have been able to do the content and get the rewards, but it is not such a big deal to me that i have to create a thread on a forums and rage (not referring to the OP but more as a general statement) like people tend to do these days.

Which is exactly what they did when the started the event at the time with highest concurrency.
Whatever the server problems or limitations, one thing you should never do is run something at a specific time only.
By that I mean players come from all over the world and different time zones and you must be fair to all of them.
In the UK this event kicked off at 8pm Sunday and that was fine.
How about India where it was 1am well ok that's possible. Not too useful for China Japan Australia because then your talking 3am to 6am.
that's a large part of the world that would find it difficult to play.
If all events start at 12 noon pacific time, your not going to sell many copies of the game in countries with extreme time differences to US Pacific.
If they put on a one off event that needed players in America to come online at 4 am you think they wouldn't complain.
I am convinced that anets programmers have and are doing a top notch job on the game but somewhere there is an idiot who is making some really stupid decisions..

They give us a head start to warn us about it. https://www.guildwar.../november-2012/ I do feel sorry for the one that genuinely missed it or couldn't go because of school, work, or whatever in real life.

Had it been instanced (as in GW1) only you and your party would be in the map, which was clearly not the case here.
You're confusing the concept of a 'private instance' with the more general concept.
