None, and I won't spend any on them until I burn through the many thousands I'm hoarding.

170 euro.
Needed it for upgrading to deluxe, character slots, loads of bank slots, a costume, inventory slot. :)

None, I refuse to spend any RL money in the TP, as-well as gold atm because the exchange is way too high.

nothing.

When I need something from the gem store, I buy gems with gold, but there's not much, I want (especially since armor skins are single-use).
I bought the deluxe upgrade and some other stuff in the first week, when gold to gems ratio was low.

It's not that I refuse spending RL money on gems in generall, the stuff in the gem store is just not worth the money imho.

God bless me to even spend 1 cent more than the account on this game. Instead if i find a way to get back some with a law class action against NCSOFT, i'll be on first line :)

That's the reason I've had a lot of them sitting on my account for months now. I had a good money-making scheme early on and converted all my profits to gems.

All I bought so far are a few character slots, some bank upgrades and a Krytan armor skin (because it's the only decent looking medium armor in the game bar none.) There's just nothing else there worth spending them on.

i think 10€ or 20€. Bought 800 gems. At the start of the game.

But then i got over 1000 gems in paids, ~2500 gems from gold and so on. So i got armor skin, town cloths, char slot, extended bank slots, extended bag slots for character etc.

0€. I bought 5000 gems with gold when they were still 30s / 100 gems, that covered all the bank/char slots and stuff I needed. I'm not much into cosmetic stuff and minis, so I don't have any incentive to spend more.

I don't actually know tbh. Quite a lot. I have 10 char slots, all bank tabs, all chars have at least 1 extra bag slot, with some at full, bought a whole bunch of dye packs, a bundle of keys, and made some gems -> gold conversion. I'd guess around £300 maybe ...

Being the fanboy dumbass that I am, I bought the CE.
And that pretty much ended my GW2 investments for the foreseeable future.

I didn't buy CE, but did buy 2 copies for friends, and spent $100 on gems for exotic gear, which went down in a week.  Lol, dumb.  $100 is no small amount to me, and I had thought hard over it before deciding to splurge for a year of fun, till next expansion.  (I had figured one year's subscription would be $120, and so my $100 is equivalent to paying a sub for fun as a casual player who can't grind gear.)

I believe there are people out there (that won't post) who have spent a lot more.   Back when LOTRO went to Turbine store, a surgeon posted he/she spent $500 (something like that) because it was only 5 minutes of her time in the operation room.   Also heard of a CEO that paid over $30,000 toward playing a game.  When I walk by a commander in GW2, I wonder if it can be he?  People like that CEO are very competitive and brilliant in numbers.  When they get interested in WvW, it won't surprise me at all that they will dump thousands of dollars into gems to aid their guild/server win.  Each time a server loses, I wonder if a CEO player may be steaming heh.  And the way WvW is panning out on this game, soon the CEO types may abandon it.

Ding!

I find it odd that ANet isn't even bringing out name change, etc. when people want them.  The town clothing pretty much look unworthy.  Pets are bleh.  Had there been a nice looking castle, imagine someone may buy it for $200.  For me, no.  $50 wil be top I'll spend on a house in game.  And never will buy gear again in my life!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I guess something like 30 euros for character and bank slots.
Also invested some gold in gems for T-stones.

If I look at some above posters I'd think paying a subscription fee would have been far cheaper
As for example WoW gives you 50 character slots across as many servers you like ..

In my case at least, I ended up dumping gems for gold after buying all the various slots I could, because nothing else seemed worth buying. I grabbed some dye packs. The lack of decent cosmetics/anything worthwhile and the dependence on RNG make the store a huge miss, for me.

I was just trying to show ArenaNet I loved their game and overall philosophy. :\

Indeed. So was I when I decided to "pay subscription".  Appreciation was the other part.  I did not really need exotic.  But now they bit me, and .. shrug.  It doesn't seem they realize how many players are spending to partly reward them out of appreciation.

Of course it would.
But then again if there were a sub we would HAVE to pay. Now we can CHOOSE to pay and that is a rather big difference.

Yes I also read about such things in EVE Online, where you can buy about everything for RL money for "plex", even characters and money, spaceships, everything.
As long as you earn RL money a lot easier than gold these things will continue to happen. And game companies won't complain. And players will shrug and say "it's optional".

It's suprising indeed. When I did my first storyline quest on my first character I was rather counter-immersed by the fact that I, hero of Shaemoor looked like an ordinary peasant girl amongst my noble peers!!! :(

And yes, cosmetic changes, why not sell remakes? It was a huge success in GW, perhaps they're waiting till they have new hairstyles (like the long awaited pony tails) to accompany the mechanic? I believe it already was incorporated in some release but never officially "unlocked".

10$ just for some transmute stones I was unlucky enough to receive while leveling up.  However I did it more to support Anet than anything else however that is a extremely modest sum.  Over all im not really moved to buy anything in there but I will probably chuck another 10 bucks at em here or there every now and they so long as im satisfied with the product.

True. The other part is appreciation.  To me I kinda felt guilty if I didn't pay anything above the purchase price and would play a year.  My "donation" was sort of mixed with an ideal fun time with exotic gear.  Could have done the game for a year without it though.

I see no reason to spend real money on the game, yet.  Gold is super easy to come by just playing.

That being said, I certainly wouldn't mind doing so.  The game is cheap entertainment.  Just say you spent $1 per hour you play.  I've played about  400 hours = simple math.  What else can you do that's this fun, free to "play" and is that cheap?  Can't go to a movie, the bar (def not), the ice cream shop or bowling for $1 an hour.  Heck, with the cost of worms, you can't even fish for $1 per hour and forget about golfing.  Your gym membership you don't use often enough costs way more than $1 per hour of use! :-D

And, if you can't afford to spend a couple hundred a month on something (anything) then you should be working more and not playing games.

The only reason I see to spend money is to simply support the game because I like it so much and pad my Gold account since it's only 120 (spent waaaay too much on diff exotic sets for diff characters :/ ).

Sub fee and a game shop are not exclusive. Loads of MMO's have both.

You're a couple of weeks late on news.
Make-over kits and name changes are already in the .dat file, they just need to be activated by Anet.
Just search in the TP for "name" and you'll find it. :)

Ive spent $150 on gems, the first month, only for bank slots/inventory slots.  Will not be spending any more money on the gem store until they figure out that it just isn't worth it to spend real money.  Once they make Black Lion Chests actually worth something, I may buy a ton of keys.  But atm, the BLTC Chests are a complete waste of money.

Love the old school EQ1 reference!
When I bought this game I was a believer in the Anet vision...So for the first 2 months I was buying 30 dollars worth of gems a month (I had two active EQ accounts at 15 dollars each when I came over) But I have now stopped spending RL money for gems as I will never spend real money on some stupid RNG chest to maybe (very rarely) get a cool weapon skin! I mean put the Items on the gem store for sale and I will spend money on them, stick them in a stupid rng chest and * you....not getting my money
