Zero. I've bought my gems with ingame gold, just enough for the bag slot and one black lion key.
I plan on purchasing the bank expansion, but never with real monies.

With tougher content, pugs are getting more discriminatory.  I dont think anyone here likes to be thought of as holding any group back, regardless of whether you admit it or not, there IS a pressure for getting max stat equipment when partying with others.

i've said that in that thread to. The only reason why such things happen is becoze ppl like you let them happen. If you stop letting others decide whetehr you are good enough, this problem will become less and less. But until you don't go against it yourself , it snot gonna chnage. So many ppl just following othreppls made up rules, its ridiculous.

Game is currently 70% shit and 30% gems, people are upset because they were, under false pretenses, sold something which they did not want. Did you know you can ask a refund ( if you bough smartly the game online)? IF more will do it, the real loss to the company will be way bigger than you occupying 1% of download server performance lol wasting electricity, a mass refund would truly ruin them.

I'd only heard the phrase in context of things that lost businesses money, like the news, back in the 50s.  It was a public service that had no ads, running it cost a channel money, but their other programming brought in money.

I haven't spent any cash for gems, nor will I.. now.

I was contemplating on buying some bank/character slots. But after having my main at 80 and almost at map completion, I cant see myself levelling another 4 characters to 80, so no need for another character slot. My characters I don't use have big bags and are stored as pack mules, and I have a one person guild for its guild storage.

Also after spending a decent amount of time at 80, I've realised I could just get it all rather easy with gold, so I cant see myself ever buying any in the future.

10$ and I don't plan on buying anymore gems. The costumes are pretty meh since you cannot wear them in combat and that you need to manually select them. I realized that I never wear my pirate suit.

how much gold do you have?When i reached 80 i had more than 10 g and i even got 5 g more before going to orr just by playing the zones normally (only once) and selling the mats i didnt need.In the end i bought much of my equipment from the trading post and then raised my crafting and eventually crafted a set but that did require some minimal grind.If you dont go for the expensive sets like m.find and berserkers its actually cheap (or it was ..i havent checked in ages).In fact i think that with the karma jugs now it should be easier to buy the karma gear if you do the dailes which you should do easily by normal playing.
Imo true pay ot win games force to you spend real money either by not giving you a choice at all or by not giving you a choice practically(in the sence that the alternative is grinding like a chinease farmer)

Also i know cases of friends that made crazy amounts of gold from playing with the tp.100s of golds without paying a s single euro for gems.

I've spent close to $300 I think, about half of that near release when I sold all my money I made from Diablo.

I'm prepared to spend up to $1000 by the end of the year.

I have seen behavior like this all the time, it is not going to change whether I allow it or not.  In this case, they are right that my character isn't in the best form that he can be because, mathematically speaking, masterwork gear IS inferior to exotic, you have to admit that.  They just want to be as prepared as they can be for a tough dungeon so I understand their point of view.  I don't condone their behavior but I understand them.

Recently, I saw some exotic gear that costs less than 1 gold on the TP and bought some.  I hope to fully deck out 3 of my 5 characters (all level 80) and I have maxed all crafting professions.  For leveling up all 5 to level 80 and maxing all crafting professions cost me a lot of gold.  The total manual cost is already 15.5g.  

Karma gear is still a grind although less of a grind now, at 42K/piece or 252K karma for a full set of armor.  That is still a lot of karma to grind.  The interesting thing is, I need berserkers because my ranger build requires it.   It is no point saving some gold, paying for a top tier armor that doesn't work well with your build.

Spent $20 so far, but plan to get enough character slots to try every class, so that number will eventually go up. I never spent much in GW1, don't expect my purchases to go over $100 here either when it's all said and done.

Before the Halloween event I spent about $30. With that I bought an extra bank tab, a dye pack for the luls and about 20-25 BLC Keys that I promptly was punched in the dick for. Advertising drops that you need gems to get through a ridiculously low drop rate via RNG was a bit offensive to me, and the fact that they keep doing it and adding new chests with the same philosophy doesn't sit right with me. As such, I'll only be using gold to gem currency exchange for anything else I need on down the line.

Exactly!  I'm a noob at level 15 and had like 1 silver to my name. Would have taken months to earn the 2g to list an item worth 50g.  I figure there might be many other people with the same problem so I bought 2g so I could sell the item quickly.  Lucked out because the price dropped to 28G shortly after...

BTW I then bought 25G worth of gems to park my new found wealth. Half in gems and half in gold.  I don't know how inflation is going to work in this game so I played it safe.  Comments on my tactic?
