None. I may buy some to unlock more character slots, at least 3 so I can have one of each class... But it will have to wait due to RL considerations.

$40 for bank slots and character slots.  I would have spent more as time wore on, but not after they put in a gear treadmill that you can spend real money to shorten (gems-gold-mats-Ascended).  Done opening my wallet to Anet, NCSoft, and Nexon.  Never again.

I've spent $30 so far, got bank tabs and some random hats and some fine transmute stones.  Everything else I've generally used then gold to gems option.  I do plan on spending more for winters day if something catches my eye.

I've spent a total of $50 on gems (the cards at the store for 2000 gems each) and I bought both of them yesterday. Turned about 1300 of the gems into gold so I could buy some cheap exo gear for thief.

Will definitely be spending more. I need char slots, bank/inv space, etc etc.

None, and I will never spend money on gems because of the introduction of ascended items when it was more important a big fix to all the problems that plague the game.

I buy $10 worth of gems every month to show my support to Arena Net.

I'm not too thrilled about the recent changes though. I'll be withholding future purchases until I feel like the company is worth supporting again.

I haven't spent any money on gems in this game.  I'm not opposed to it, Anet needs to have income, I understand that.

But first off, the Gem Store is a joke!  There's hardly anything there, and most of it is horrid garbage.  RNG is just bad.  I don't go to Macys to bid on a grab bag full of cr#p, I won't do it here either.

Second,  I feel that Anet sold me an unfinished game.  I'm not bitter or sore about it since they have been working to finish, but I don't feel they are deserving of a "tip" from me yet.  Since this last patch has now introduced some unwanted elements into their game, I can't say I'll be supporting that direction with my money either.

The lose future gem sales. Why do you want people to leave? Is your enjoyment of the game reduced by seeing how others feel about it?

These are forums for the game.  I want to come here and see threads about the game that are helpful, instructive, and build the community.  Instead every thread is hateful.  If I made something nice about the game, I think it would take about 5 minutes for people to start calling me a fanboi.

About $60-70.

I received the game as a gift, and having been a fan of GW since day 1 of the original, had no problem with giving back to the company. Bought 3 character slots, bank tabs, some extra inventory slots, and some black lion keys.

Thought I'd periodically chuck 10-20 bucks on gems every once in awhile if something caught my eye, but will probably hold out now based on how Ascended items were brought in. Can't believe after 7+ years of no gear stat treadmill, Anet finally introduced this... Waiting to see how everything else plays out. Other then Ascendant armor/weapons, I've generally been impressed with how they have been improving PvE. PvP on the other side...WvW needs a lot of work, class bug fixes balancing needs a lot of work. I'll hold off on sPvP as I'm not a fan of the format, would rather have GvG or HoH.

Nothing. When I need something from the gemstore I just buy it with gold. Its easy to get gold in this game, so I dont feel the need to spend anything. :)

Zero.
Might get a character slot eventually, but there is no point.

People bitching at A.net because they are impulse shoppers is hilarious though.  Mandatory Saturday Night Live bit for your viewing pleasure.

$260. Not planning on spending more.

So assuming a MMO subscription of $11/month (like WoW), you have paid for almost 2 years of subscription within 3 months already.  This is why I am skeptical when people say GW2 is "Free-to-Play".

GW2 is "Free-to-Play-By-Grinding" (F2PBG) or if you rather not grind, "Pay-to-Play-WithOut-Grinding" (P2PWOG).  Why?  Because anything in the TP can be bought with real money. All you need to do is to buy gems then convert them into gold.  Throw in enough real money and you can buy anything in the TP.

This is why GW2 can never be too casual player-friendly, like GW1 is, where you can get max stat equipment upon completing the game.  If they do that, then there would be no incentive for casual players to buy gems.  If you don't want to pay up then you would have to deal with the grind.  This is all part of their business plan around GW2.

And by the way, ArenaNet did not break their promise or their Manifesto.  They just didn't qualify them.  No grind?  Sure, no grind, but for a price.

$10 so I had enough gold (~2g) to list a Greatsaw Greatsword Skin that I received in a drop. Sold for ~50g.  Pain in the butt that I had to spend money to sell a 50g+ item...  :)

Probably like 100 bucks or more.

On my warrior I bought the suit of armor from style section.  I've purchased transmutation stones.  Primarily converted gems to gold to buy exotics for my 80s.  I don't grind.  I get 80 I buy what I want.

none, for the most part just get plenty of gold the hard way and then buy gems with it, and thats it, no need for real money. not sure why some ppl think real money is required.

PS

excluding of course the 60$ I paid to get the game itself :P

Well guild wars 2 is free to play if you want it to be or not and you can play as much or as little as you wish.
Now of course human nature being what it is some people will justify their need to pay, I did that to get more storage and another character slot.
I am pretty sure I will eventually have 1 slot per character type and probably more bank storage.

Subscription based games differ because not only are they pay to play they are also pay to not play.

Currently I play GW2 and World of Tanks both are free to play and both have things you can buy for extras in the game.
If I stopped playing for a year they would cost me nothing.

If I was on a subscription based game I would pay for the time I was away on other games, not only that but I would over time pay a considerabe ammount of money which would all be lost if I stopped.

The point is anet gives everyone a choice.
GW1 was very low key about selling stuff to players and it didnt come in right away.
GW2 is much more in your face about selling stuff and they appear to be quite cynical about some of their choices.

None, first because ArenaNet hasn't delivered their main promises, which made me unwilling to support then further. Second because the game main premise is being free to play, spending that kind of real money on a cash shop could pay you two years of subscription on much more quality games. Third because I got a refund and quit the game.

Cheers!

From the TP which, like I have mentioned, gems are used to convert into gold to buy exotics.  Even though I completed the game and the 3 Orr areas without any exotic, I don't want to be discriminated against when I join a PUG.  See post #6:
