I've done a little testing on mobs in Frost Gorge. With Omnomberry pie (66% on crit to steal health) and sigil of air, even auto attack damage is ok. I think there is potential for it, especially if you use Shadow Strike. It hits for 3-4K and if you can work it into an attack sequence, damage should be pretty good.

Edit: Some initial observations:

Sigil of Air is hitting every ~5 seconds for 1.1K-1.4K.

Vital shot is hitting for ~925-1.1K when it crits. With the Omnom pie, there's a great chance it procs for an additional 325 damage (which also heals you.
Sneak attack is hitting for 3-4K when it crits. With the pie, that's a potential additional 1625 damage, that also heals you.
Cloak and Dagger is still hitting for 3-5K on average with crits.
Shadow Strike is hitting for ~800-1.1K for first attack, 2.5-4.6K on the second portion of the attack when they crit. I'm typically seeing an average of 5.5K if both crit.
Bleeds from Vital Shot and Sneak Attack are hitting for ~50 each per tick, not to be forgotten, as it all adds up. That's ~4-5 stacks at any given time, 800-1K damage per second if not cleansed.

I found that Infusion of Shadow works better than Shadow protector if you have no init regen, such as Inf. Signet. The healing from Omnom pie should help alleviate the loss of Shadow protector healing. Shadow Embrace is too good not to grab.

http://gw2skills.net...KA;TQALKGUsJYSA

If you run Mug and Infiltrator's Signet, you can CnD when close, Sneak Attack, then Shadow Strike away. At that point, use Inf Signet to close the gap again, CnD, Sneak Attack, and then Shadow Strike away again. You can then Mug and do it again.

That adds up to some pretty good damage. It's not as pressuring as a pure glass build, but you have ~3K toughness for the longer fights, and a lot of power, crit, and crit damage to still put some hurt out.

You can give this a try if you have the money for gear etc but P/D is meh burst style those times when you face a decent opponent  and can't get a cloak and dagger off I don't know.

I tried this scholar runes, zerker all kinds of runes and setups to find something that works and in the end I felt like D/D does the same but better. Really your playing for mug, and cnd which is what you do with dagger dagger.

I been running D/P and S/D and I think these 2 sets go together really well.  I have been mostly using D/P and swap to S/D depending on the fight and what i am facing but I am really loving these 2 together.   I have been running it without SoS while taking fleet shadows and with fleet I can get away pretty easily.

I am going to try the 30/30/10 spec I saw I don't feel like I need mug I have been running 0/20/30/20/0 I find the 15 points in acro to be hard to give up.

I've tried the D/D route, and with my gearing for a lot of toughness for survival, I lost more damage than I think the backstab burst really needs. I opted for more of a longer fight, but not nearly as long as a condition based P/D setup would take relying on mostly bleeds. With sword as my main weapon set, I can bounce back and forth.

I agree that P/D is pretty meh as a burst spec, but it still does well as a wear them down, and with the power/crit behind it, it might prove worthwhile, but I will have to test it in wvw, not on mobs.

I've started to use D/P and S/D as well in WvW.  These sets complement each other - I still can get the CnD backstab off just by starting in S/D, precast CnD->Mug->switch->backstab.  It's a pretty awesome set.  I haven't changed my stats set up too much, so I've been using 25 DA, 30 Crit, 15 Trickery.  I used to run 15 Acro but switched.  I don't have much defenses so I need to make sure I take advantage of Black Powder... Still tweaking things with this weap set.  I currently don't spec in Shadow Arts, but I found it very hard to give up my 15 in Acro that I ran for a long time...

Just trying S/D in wvw and I like it.

One question: is the second part of sword skill 2 meant to have an infinte (or seemingly so) range when you use the first part of sword 2 while not targeting anything?

Eg I press sword 2 while stood in LA at cooking station with no target, walk past the forge up the other side, well over 1500 units, and press sword 2 again I appear back at the cooking station.

PS if this is a bug ill edit/delete this post as in wvw its awesome.

It looks like it has infinite range and doesn't get blocked by obstacles.

Close. So far i haven't hit a limit on range, but it will be blocked by keep walls in WvW. Will go up cliffs, and around anything else, but there is a condition you can meet to make it be blocked.

not totally sure myself, need to mess around with it more. I think it catches on certain structures in WvW besides keep walls. I've been ported to the bottom of a bridge instead of on top of it, and a few times have hit a cliff instead of going to the other side of it. Yet other times i can make it through the cliff... I think it might be a little more effective then intended....(not that it should be looked into).

and i didnt mean condition as in status affecting conditions, but pre-requisites that cause the skill to work differently... just not sure what they are...

The second part of sword #2 is identical to the second part of Shadowstep utillity. It is intended to have at least a 1200 range on return, though often one can exceed this range, other times it will 'return' you as far as it can backwards, but not to your original location. In addition the skill has seem to have slightly different behaviors through various patches since beta.

That is interesting. I've only really used sword enough to notice the difference in the last month. I always assumed it was meant to have the same rules on return as shadowstep, but it is currenltly far and above what Ss can do. I had it return me well over 3k units.

0/30/30/10/0 is what I've been running.

I'm about to swap over to a bunker P/D thief with 20K health and almost 3100 armor condition thief tho.

Hmm.. What are your traits ? I prefer something with more damage but your idea sounds good.
I read about the best build is something like 0/30/20/20 but I don't know why is better than 0/30/30/10.

This is the gear and traits I'm using for WvW:

http://gw2buildcraft...35b.a6.0|39.7|e

Damage is decent, the sword chain hits for 2.2K +2.2K + 3.5K if they all crit, at least on mobs. WvW will likely be different. It's good vs. GC builds, you'll see good damage on them, yet have some survivability. I've eaten more than a few backstab chains with it and lived, so it does what I wanted it to do.

Looking to dust off my thief again. How's the s/d thief after recent changes?  Was thinking about dropping mug and going for plus speed while stealthed.  Also considering swapping out my berserker armor for something with some more survivability.

Any thoughts?

It's alright. The damage is lacking, because good luck hitting anything with the current blind/CC AoE spam, but you can still harass enemies with Tactical Strike and steal their buffs, which craps all over bunkers. You still can't kill bunkers, of course, but it will help a little bit.
