Two of my guild-mates bumped into each other in-game, and one made a jokey comment in guild chat about the others boobs, and they started to do the /dance emote. Next thing we know she finds herself with a permaban! I wouldn't even see 'boob' as a swear word, let alone one that warranted a permanent ban. Nobody would have reported this guild chat so I have no idea why this extreme action has been taken!
What do you think? Is 'boob' that offensive - especially in gchat! -  to warrant a perma-ban without the player ever having been given any kind of warnings for any kind of misbehaviour in the past?
Has anybody else experienced this kind of over-enthusiastic banning for 'swearing' recently?
Anet allows botters to run 10 toons on the same spot day-in-day-out, despite them being reported by multiple players, yet perma-bans someone for a word that's questionably even offensive in guild chat!? This seems hugely flawed to me and I'm really disappointed.
I'm all for bans for people who are repeatedly abusive and offensive, especially in /map, but it should start with a warning and move on to increasing length bans (unless it's majorly extreme obviously.)
I'd be interested to hear if anybody has had a similar experience recently? I know that Anet was reportedly very heavy with the bans straight after launch, but now...?
Thanks. :)

Are you certain that is what she was banned for? I recieved a ban for inappropriate language, but that "only" lasted for 72 hours, and it was n map chat. What message is popping up when she tries to log in?

It doesn't sound like something they'd permaban a person over.

No it's not ok, it's excessive, pathetic, and overall just idiotic.

Not even Blizzard does that kind of shit, and boy, does the trade chat in the cities get heated often.

So yeah, Anet's current stance is unacceptable.

Honestly... I do not believe, that she got banned for saying boobs. Nobody in the world would get a permabann for saying boob. She's either done something more severe and against the rules, that gave her the permabann or they suspect her account is a bot/gold seller, etc.

I HIGHLY doubt she/he was permabanned for that. I used swear words in game but was never temporarily banned. There's a bigger issue here. Either you're hiding it to instill doubt or your guildie is.

The only way that she could of been banned for chat behaviour is that it was reported. Anet have stated they do not monitor guild chats, but will investigate if guild chat is reported.

The ban is either;
  • A complete mistake where a mod has typed a name out wrong to ban someone else, contact Anet Support and ask why the ban was placed (I believe they only need a character name to look up a ban) and they should see the error and remove the ban (and thus remove any black mark a legitimate ban leaves on an account)
  • An over-reaction where people have reported the account and Anet have responded in a heavy handed way, contact support for details and to appeal
  • There is more to the story than your guild mate is telling you, contact support for details and appeal.
Either of the three the solution is to contact support to find out the exact reason for the ban and to appeal against the ban

Or 4. There was a different occasion of abusive language and they're not even aware that they got reported for it.

I don't see this remaining constructive. If your friend was really banned for such a slight, then contact support and hash it out with them (I'm sure it was a mistake if that's really all they did).

No one here can help. Best of luck!
