Guru's State of the Game was founded to fill a need in the absolute top of the competitive scene. A need for a place where the most experienced players can have genuine and constructive discussion with equal and like-minded people, all in a serious environment.

Where and when?
State of the Game will be a monthly stream featuring only the most competitive teams in an hour long discussion about the current state of the game. The very first event is scheduled to go live November 30th at 8 PM. GMT+1 (11 AM. PST) on the own3d.tv/gw2guru channel.

Who will be attending?
The ultimate goal will be having a steady player rotation featuring only the most competitive teams every month. We want 3-4 teams represented by 1 player at every event so we can have a varied display of experiences and views.

We have big plans for this event and want to keep it the highest possible quality not only verified by the experience of the teams that we invited but also verified by the next announcement.

I am VERY pleased to announce that for the first event we are lucky enough to not only feature the highest and most competitive players of the GW2 Scene, but we will also be joined by ArenaNet's very own PvP Developer: Jonathan “Chaplan” Sharp.

That means the attendance list will be the following:

What we need?
We are currently looking for an experienced and already established interviewer to act as the host of the event. Your main job will be introducing the players and controlling and enhancing the flow of the discussion by making sure everyone gets to speak and making sure we stay on time.

So if you are an experienced shout caster/podcast maker feel free to send me an email at frozire@guildwarsguru.net - Be sure to add some sample content and enough information to convince me why we should pick you! We do keep the right to not pick any of the applicant's if we feel the suitable quality is not met, in such a case I will be stepping in till we find someone fitting.

And for those of you who just want to support this event be sure to spread the news, participate on November 30th at 8 PM. GMT+1 (11 AM. PST) and throw us some questions in this thread that you would like us to bring up!

Question: What kind of things/features will be implemented to incorporate more casual players into the PvP environment?

I dont even know if that makes sense but i hope you get the gist of it, because we need more casual players in tournaments and at the moment it's not happenin.

Question 2: For future patches will there be explanations for balance changes? For example: Riot's Patch Preview. This would help players feel less left in the dark when it comes to why some things are changed while others are kept the same.

Correct, for this very first event there will not be any purely US teams represented but we are by this time in contact with US players for the second event.

The reason is purely to ease management and limit any possibility of technical difficulties or any other mistakes happening.

Reasonable exploitation, but not having a single US perspective is still a pretty  big bummer.  Right now there are a lot of big topics after the Nov 15th patch, a month from now who knows.

A question I'd like answered is if Anet plans on sponsoring any real money tournaments of their own?

Here is my question: Why are there only 2 developers focusing on class changes and balance? The dev's know about the problems, and even admit that they need to fix classes like the ranger. We were told that they had a big list of changes, but couldn't get to them since their team consisted of only 2 dev's. If Anet really wants to focus on making this an eSport, how can they justify not staffing this crucial component?

Greetings ANet and PVP team.

What about new game modes?
1. Team Deathmatch
2. Capture the Flag
3. Arenas 2v2 3v3 4v4 5v5 etc
4. etc etc add game style here

Finally the big one. Where is the GvG? People say guilds can fight in WvWvW but that's not hardly organized. I'm talking Guild Wars 1 style ranked matched to see who the top Guild is on the planet.

Also 75% downstate is not much of a change..why not 50% or no downstate at all?

You guys did so well in Guild Wars 1 PVP. What happened in Guild Wars 2??

I understand that it took time to add these things to GW1 but I would think after all those years of experience on GW1 you would have seen what people loved and made en effort to put that in GW2.

sPVP sadly at the moment is a let down and that's why I (and many others) came to GW2 in the first place. It feels like it was just tacked onto the main game unlike GW1 PVP which was given so much love.

I wish you guys luck at Anet but you've got a long way to go as far as sPVP is concerned. Hopefully you can surprise us all in the near future.

Pretty please ask J. Sharp whether Elementalist patched trait Evasive Arcana is intended to completely lack blast finishers or not! This is very important since alot of archetype builds relied on it - including the infamous Staff Bunker - and do not work without these blasts!

Question to Jonathan Sharp: Do you make your balance changes by comparing other professions to Warrior? This isn't a troll post or anything, it's a sincere question. It seems like Warrior is in a good spot right now and almost never gets any substantial buffs/nerfs anymore. A little light being shown on how balance changes are made would be nice.

Recent line of sight changes have greatly increased the failure rate of illusions for the Mesmer profession.  Since Mesmers rely on illusions to do so much more than just land damage, this change has subject a lot of their utility to LoS with a target, unlike any other class.  What are the current thoughts on how to fix this without giving back Mesmers the ability to place Phantasms on the other sides of walls, etc?

Why are the current leader boards so stingy with information.  Why don't you list both the level, class and race of each player.  My tinfoil hat is they don't want it to be widely know what succeeds and what does not.

All of the top players play many classes and races so i dont know how they would acquire that sort of information lol and what could possibly come of it.

question/suggestion: A lot of people hate quickness in sPvP. Of course not everyone does... Regardless, is it worth considering a change?

A few quick suggestions are:

1) make it the reverse of chilled and speed up skill recharge time, but not attack speed.
2) reduce the action speed in pvp a bit.

Question: Is there any chance that Oceanic players can really attend one-time events wherein they don't feel left out? Like the Lost Shores Events. (I kinda doubt this though)

SPvP and WvW are fairly different types of game play, so it probably won't be something discussed it this particular stream. However, that doesn't mean there isn't a future for something similar involving WvW.

first, good to see gw2guru is showing some love for spvp.

second, 2 questions/statement requests to Jonathan Sharp:

#1:
Currently, it is impossible to play paid tournaments outside of the very primetime between 19:00 and 23:00. Even then the Q-times are sometimes really long, showing that there is only a very small minority playing these, as you will meet the same opponents in there again and again.
That means 2 things:
a) the pvp community is more split then ever, into teams that do paids and teams that dont. furthermore, there is a giant barrier for new teams switching to paids, since they basically have to pay to earn the priviledge of getting owned.
while paids arent up because not enough teams are there, the good teams still have to play free and roflstomp all over pubs, a concern raised back when the game was still in beta.

Are there any plans to change these crucial problems? Will the long requested rating system come anytime "soon" so we can get rid of this suboptimal system that destroys many peoples interest in the pvp of this game?

#2: As shown numerous times in the last months, the community is ready so support this game where Anet cant. So i beg you, make private servers your number one priority!!

Feel free to shorten as you think is necassary, just wanted to make my point clear.

Damn it. Not even a single dent about WvW! Do they not care at all about WvW better reward? Are they really happy with current WvW state? It's dying and they refuse to rectify!

Nirvii this is an event initiated and hosted by GW2-Guru, this time focussing on sPvP, it has nothing to do with the way Anet cares about WvW. Also, Jonathan Sharp is the sPvP guy and would probably not be really helpful in a discussion about WvW.

Im shocked how many people think pvp=wvw, guess thats my narrow pov, but maybe the main news title should make it more clear that this is about sPvP =)

Don't worry, we are very likely (depending on the success of this event) to release events like this for other aspects of the game in the future.
