And why not do it like in GW1?
Why not let it run multiple times in a 24h time window? It would be easy to just make it a once-per-account event.

Everyone would be able to participate then, and get the loot.

Does probably have something to do with technical limitations.

It would also be rather weird if the wall we just the destroyed and the big pool of lava in the middle of the hive suddenly disappeared.

Filled it in.  Wonder how they'll explain my answer to the last question (as there wasn't a comment field to explain it!)

Should the Ancient Karka event only run once: Absolutely Agree
Should the Ancient Karka event run multiple times: Absolutely Agree

My explanation: yes, an account should only be able to to experience it once.  But, it should repeat so everybody at least can have a shot at it, no matter where they live.

Yeah, I guess there are technical limitations to repeating events. I guess that's why this game has no repeating events at all, only unique ones, right?

There are dozens of open world events on ever-repeating cycles that are just as weird, if not more so. Arbitrarily assigning greater importance to one particular event's persistence is just that: arbitrary. It has nothing to do with logic.

And, it didn't even work, forcing persistence upon  the event. Many people ran it several times over.

All it does is piss people off for no good reason.

I was thinking about that.

Simply limit access to that island until you have done that Ancient Karka quest.  Open it one time (like they did) for the masses and make it a personal story kind of thing for the stragglers.  They will miss the grand fight (it would be much better with a huge group) but they will still be able to at least so it once.  Finishing the personal story thingie will open up the island for you.  Or, make it a choice during a personal quest kind of story, "yes, I want to re-enact it", "no, I don't want to re-enact it".

I feel bad for actual new players that were invited by their friends this weekend. GW2 has a reasonable learning curve so learning it over the weekend requires a bit of time and focus. This would be a good opportunity to kick back and play with your friend and teach him/her the ropes.

However, All the new stuff and one time events being crammed down your throat new players likely got kicked to the wayside by their own friends while they tackled these one time events and try fractals.

My husband received the survey via email and was happy to let ANet know he does not like one-time events. His basic message back: if ANet plans to create more one-time events, then ANet needs to ensure the events aren't technical failures.

My message back to ANet: Please let me "opt out" to a non-event server so I can continue my regular play unimpeded (by lag, crashes, in-game mail spam, frozen UI spam, overcrowding in storyline locations, etcetera). I have an "allergic" reaction to directed gameplay involving massive public railcarts that negatively impact my chosen gaming experience.

I am very encouraged to see ArenaNet emailing that survey.   I don't recall there being a survey after the Halloween event, so one supposes that a survey has been sent after the Lost Shores event because ArenaNet realizes that there were serious problems with it.

But I have concerned that *anyone* can fill out the survey.   It's up on the NCSoft website so you don't even have to own the game to fill it in.
I would have thought that ArenaNet would want to make it private so only people who get the email could fill it in.   Otherwise the data could be skewed.

Still, it does indicate that they are taking steps toward fixing things.   ArenaNet has shown a very rare ability to learn from their past mistakes.  That is unusual for an MMO developer.    ArenaNet has been able to recognize errors not only in other MMOs but from their own past product, Guild Wars 1.   I hope that surveys like this will help them learn from their mistakes in Guild Wars 2.

Because the final phase 3 of the Lost Shores was a big, ol' mistake on multiple levels.    I've thought as much since Sunday and it's nice to see ArenaNet taking steps to get feedback from their customers on what exactly went wrong to it so they can improve and do better next time.

NCSoft/Nexon wants our feedback.Givem the finger.

Riiiiight, because nothing says valuable constructive feedback like "Givem the finger." Which tells them nothing and doesn't help anyone.

The main problem we might see here is that people let their emotions talk instead of actually giving truthful feedback.

I am rather sure that there are people here that loved the event but would still put "Strongly dislike" on every single thing just because they are mad about the Ascended gear. That does give a false result of the survey sadly.

I think the survey will give them more useful information than the noise from forums. The problem with forums is that a minority of people can create a lot of fuss that perhaps the majority of the fan base aren't worried about. Thus they can be lead in the wrong direction by a loud minority.

I didn't mind the event too much except for the obvious issues with mobs not loading on screen, skills not working because of server load, etc. Also the poorly scripted NPC's breaking and leaving a lot of people stuck.

I haven't done the fractals dungeons for the same reason i haven't done any dungeons. The elitism crap. It just turns me off so i have just stuck with PVE in the regular world. I've still had a lot of fun playing the game.

Here is what i would like to see added to the world:

1. More one time events except with better tested npc and quest scripting. A test server is needed for these kinds of things, their local testing just doesn't cut it. Sure it will take the surprise out of a lot of it, but i think that is unavoidable.

2. Lions Arch to not be used as the primary focus of the one time events. Have every city involved, thus spreading the server load balance more evenly.

3. Open world dungeons. Basically just maps, with a dungeon format that doesn't require a group to enter, though you may want to to survive. Less elitist snobbery.

Told them in the comments section that Ascended gear being better than Exotics doesn't belong in the game. :D
I don't care so much for the rest of the stuff. The 1-time even was quite ok. The new island is ok. The Fractals dungeon is pretty nice (if you ignore the stupid difficulty scaling thing and agony mechanic).

They said 12 PST is the time they have the most users on.
That's the best they could do for one time events.

It should have been 12 PST on the Saturday so that Oceanic players had the option of staying up late/getting up early without having to worry about it being a Monday for them.

These surveys are excellent, because they provide the input they need... direct and simple.  If you dislike it, you just say so, and if you loved it, you just say so.

This removes emotional bullcarp and self-entitled people, and just gets across what they need... direct feedback.

Filled mine out already, was pretty harsh, but that's what they need.

Its a good thing they did this, however i wish we could elaborate a bit about the technical problems.
THe discos are clearly a deal breaker.

I went to the Lost Shores today via Lion's Arch for the first time and honestly, the place was dead. There weren't any events, there weren't any people trying to do any events and it just feels like it was for a weekend only and then it was completely forgotten about. Am I missing something here? :/

I do have one problem, well it's more of a downside really; with surveys in general. If they don't want to hear your thoughts in general, they simply have to leave out the question, but everything else you said is true. I just wanted to add that surveys can be "manipulated". A bit of a strong word for what I want to express, but it gets the point across =).

I hope we have more of those, I'd be satisfied with once a month :D.
