Depends on level I used to see loads of Elementalists in low level areas not some much now i am further on.
Quite a few mesmers and guardians around and a few necros
See loads of rangers at all levels.

Surprised Necro is mentioned I was told the higher lvls and dungeons they were very popular.

Engineer. Very rare and I can't motivate myself to play mine ^^
(already played necro, mesmer, warrior and elementalist and they all were very nive in PvE. Can't understand complaints about mesmer. Staff, Greatsowrd, Sword/Pistol are very strong. Stronger then my ele in low levels and as my necro).

Engineer.
Lets be honest, most people just care about one thing and one thing only, damage.
And the warrior has pretty much everyone beat in terms of littlest amount of effort required to perform max damage.
So naturally warrior is going to be the one most people flock too.

I actually see fewer thieves than engineers. I think the thief is the least played profession.

I honestly think it's mesmers. It's just that it doesn't feel that way because pretty much anything a mesmer does is extremely noticeable. How many professions have generic explosive or fiery particle effects when they attack?  Compare to bouncing purple lightning with dozens of exploding spectral butterflies.

I think the first statistics remained
http://img.gawkerass...emographics.jpg

The problem now is to make statistics with only the players that are still active, but the eng/mesmer/necro still remains with the lowest population.

I started playing an elementalist and after getting to 80 and seeing how underpowered the class was, rerolled a warrior. Other people switch even faster I guess.

Yeah, I'm now playing the most popular class, but hey, I do 3x the damage of my elementalist and have almost 2x the HP.

If they drop the price of character slots tomorrow I might well buy a few and start a warrior and Mesmer, already have the others.

As much as I like to share my undying love for the Engineer along with the build talking, it is very rare for me to find another one. Every class can share a fair bit of results, so the few things mattering is the fun factor and the coolness factor. Who'd like to be a mix of commando/alchemist/inventor over a holy paladin, a barbarian, or a dark assassin from the shadows dressed in white and red highly similar to a certain.. ehm... well. For my part I do, and I don't regret it at all.

I think there was quite an extended poll a while ago; engineers were the least played class.

do we need a poll for that , didn't ArenaNet show a nice graf ?
https://www.guildwar...wars-2-economy/

Look at the picture at the end. this give a clear picture of what the situation was mid september.

We could then discuss if this has changed, now when people have plenty of alts, and have a more clear picture of the general strenght and weakness of each class.

Engis.
Maybe Anet should have made an "Alchemist" archetype, Engineer isn't very welcome in fantasy games.

Those people don't like Warhammer then :) I feel that the engineer is fully integrated into fantasy, especially if that fantasy has guns. Anyone who gives the engineer a chance can easily see how versatile they are, much more so than any other profession... We just don't shine at anything, which is what I love, just like the ritualist in GW1.

Exactly the same here. Started mesmer, decided the clones were a poor substitute for what the GW mesmer was, switched to elementalist but felt so squishy and low dps, got tired of the kiting until my hands ached all the time.

In comparison, warriors are a breeze. More hp, armour and damage ..

I love my Engineer. I only wish I had more time to level him higher. I think many people level mesmers in pve to play in wvw. My thief is wvw but I like to craft and level her in a little pve. Professions like warrior and guardian are just as good and as common in wvw/pve.

I think that engineers are cool but they were not in gw1 so people rather stick to what they like warrior/ele than try something new and interesting like engineers

Engis would be played a lot more if the class was named Alchemist, you have my word.
Engineer is too steampunk/non-fantasy for most people.

With observations/stats showing that there are less Mesmers/Engineers/Necro's .. is ANet okay with that going forward?

I think the pink motif and exploding butterflies turns a lot of people away from the Mesmer. I however love being a mesmer because

Engineers and Thieves if you ask me. Then again, the answer really is "Everyone plays Warrior , Ranger or Guardian".

Used to see a lot of Necros at lower levels. At higher levels, I see maybe one or two other Mesmers. A good friend plays elementalist and another engineer, but I definitely think I see many, many warriors/guardians/thieves/rangers, with the former 3 far more frequent than the bear/cat-lugging ones.

This was from a while back, so it might not be accurate anymore: class/profession/race breakdown.

Shows Mesmer as least played class.
Engi as second.

Those stats are ridiculously old. Pretty sure those were given the first week of launch.

Guardian? I see guardians everywhere. I was going to say mesmer or engineer...only been in a dungeon with one twice as a pug, and I don't even play my own.

you are both wrong..clones are not a poor substitute of anything and you can do many diverse things with them and eles dps is nothing but low while its not squishy at all due to active defences and healing..
Trust me :P

Alchemist sounds too much like a healer. And also too restrictive, an alchemist doesn't shoot guns nor does he build turrets. I see where you're going with this, but I don't see what else he could be called.

In low level areas it's the Engineer. In high level areas it's the Necromancer. In medium level areas... well, hard to make out in those :P

Mesmers aren't around a lot either, but because of the flashy skills you tend to take more notice of them. What do you notice the most: A small swing of the wand with a slight red effect (Necromancer) or quadruplets firing beams from swords twice as big as themself?
