Recent Blog post from Chris Whiteside, it's been discussed on the site, but i wanted particularly to focus on the WvW Aspect of it.

One of Anet's goals going foreward is:

Quote

Adding brand new content to World vs. World as well as adding new reward progression.

What does this mean for WvW? what would you want it to mean?

Personally, i'm looking foreward to seeing what they will do with WvW, there are definetely a lot of changes that need to be made, let's see if Anet can pull it off.

It doesn't really matter what we want or what we think they will do. Whatever speculation we make, will probably fall far short of what really happens. Don't believe me, ask a ranger.

Personally I would like a few things

1: More types of seige weapons.
Mines/boobytraps would be nice as people have been using them forever. (Nothing that would kill in 1 hit mind you but something that applies a few stacks of bleeding as wll as a cripple effect over a large area while putting up crossed swords on the map for a while)
Also a depolyable version of the mortar & cannon from the walls would be nice.
Timed charges would also be neat ( a very powerful man carried explosive charge that can damage walls/doors/seige weapons & people in the blast radius, is set & goes off after a few seconds unless disarmed by an enemy player. If disarmed the enemy gets it)

2: Fix it so people cant glitch through walls/doors etc... Ive seen allot of this since release & it needs to stop.

3: Fix the rendering issues, especially ones caused by ppl abusing stealth (thieves & mesmers can use stealth when fighting in WVW which when combined with rendering issues can often make them permanently invisible since the game has to redecide if they should show up each time)

4: Fix it so catapult shots won't do damage through doors, it makes flame rams & golems damn near useless 7 not worth the time/resource investment.

Most of all though they need to do 2 things

1: Put in some type of reward for winning if your participated a certain amount on a given week. (allot of servers mine included have lost most of their intrust because it just resets each week)

2:put in better rewards for defending objectives.

really the only reason to laugh at a ranger is because all the bots use em due to the fact their pets can farm for them while their AFK.

I would rather see that they fix some of the big WvW issues like culling, the score system and unbalanced servers first before adding new content.

I want it to mean new maps, which I feel will be the most important thing to keep wvw feeling fresh. New siege would also be nice. Both these things, however, I feel are at least 3-6 months away. If we get some fixes and maybe a few new interesting objectives like orbs, I will be happy.

A map rotation would be awesome to be honest.

_ Features within WvW itself, maybe even of strategic nature
_ Personal progression reward for players to showcase
_ Fix culling or cheap mechanics that take advantage of it
_ Kill counters for on maps for ( i ) server or ( ii ) individuals like in Warhammer would be cool

Kill counters would be awful. WvW is not about kills.

How about some Invader's Armor that doesn't look lame and has stats that people actually want.

Agree, I hate the invader armor for my heavy armor class. And it takes too long to grind it out too.

Especially because it would be boring because of the way "kills" works in this game. You'd see nothing but eles/necros on top of that list or engi spammers.

WvW needs...(there are plenty):

(must have)
1. Be able to get ascended-equal quality gear through wvw alone.  It can be just as difficult to get as ascended, such as tons of badges or karma or a new currency system, but it should be just as attainable without forcing pve on wvw players.
2. More maps and content.  Wvw is the only game mode between it and spvp and pve that has had no new content since launch.

(need badly)
3. Fix culling issue.
4. Limit mesmer portals so that it isn't the primary overbearing common wvw strategy.
5. Fix trebs, either by reducing invulnerable locations or reducing range.
6. Some sort of solution for stagnant matchups so that the same servers are not fighting each other every week.

(nice to have)
7. An in-game leaderboard for overall wvw rankings.

What i think would be interesting, considering that they discussed a "reward system" is if they had a chest reward for taking keeps/towers, something that scales with the objective, so like, taking a keep would give effectively a dungeon chest, probably 4-5 items, mostly blues, a few rares. A tower could give a slightly smaller chest, and supply camps would give slightly increased money rewards. Maybe Stonemist could have a large chest such as the one spawned by claw of jormag type events. I would make the chests give a 1-3 badges each, and have a small chance of giving players siege, based on the type of chest.

Currently, defeating players most commonly yields items such as spikes(junk for merch), worn garments(salvage items) and sometimes badges, so when compared to grinding other endgame areas, the loot just doesn't stack up. This would definitely increase WvW participation, and get new players to try it. The main problem i could forsee is that it would encourage a flip and run mentality where nobody would want to defend anything.

New maps would be the number one thing for me though, the maps we have are decent, but it would be great to mix things up, maybe use different maps for each borderland instead of copypasta with the objective names changed.

i hope they add some form of meaningful progression for those who focus on WvW soon, otherwise we will lose more players.

Guild progression for wvw guilds, likely achieving a certain objectives grant bonuses, some way to rank guilds.

Daily, Weekly and Monthly achievements with rewards like we have in Pve and Spvp.

Better and more choices of armor, weapons and items that can be traded with karma, badges, they could add unique skins that can only be obtained from wvw.

Improving the outmanned buff to something actually useful would be great too.

Most people don't want to defend anything anyway. There is very little material reward for running supplies, repairing things, building siege, or forking out for upgrades. Even the XP rewards for these things is low. Add to that the general lack of fun/excitement doing these tasks and there's even less incentive for the average player to do them, especially casuals who likely won't be around to defend a place later if it's attacked and reap any material reward, much less satisfaction, from a place they helped to improve.

This ^ would be very nice.

Frankly I think they should bring the orbs back then switch their bonus with the outmanned bonus.
That would allow the dominating team to get more drops while the underperforming team would get a slight boost in health/stats.

As for the comment about mesmer portals, I agree they should be changed somehow. They could put a limit on how many uses they have before they despawn, something like 10 would be fine.

Pretty sure someone else probably posted this, but just to voice my opinion on WvW improvements:

1. Daily / Weekly achievement rewards - instead of earning the usual mystic coins and random item, you can also earn siege blueprints, and in rare occasions, superior versions of them.

2. Guild ranking system on the current map -  Score can be calculated based on a combination of things like kills, caps, yak escorts, siege deployment, keep fortifications, etc.  This will show which guild is contributing the most on a certain map.  The guild with highest cumulative score gets some kind of reward like bonus influence, discount on guild merchants, etc.

3. Ascended type armor and gear - so that hardcore WvW'ers can earn ascended items too.

4. Outmanned buff - Change current outmanned buff to something like Orb buffs of old, increased defense and/or damage, etc.

I kinda want Outmanned to not suck, but then I think about fully kitted out thieves--complete with food--just sitting outside the gates, waiting to pounce on anyone they see with a green arrow by their name.  Seems like half the players during the week are the annoying buggers.

I'd like to see a better reward system too.  Maybe automatically get badges for objectives (five for capping supply camp, ten for tower, etc.).

keep on dreaming... someone on oficial forum said ANet wants to shift attention for sPVP for eSports. I think is right, they probably will never reach the fame of starcraft2 eSports, I'm sure many other games have that but I only play and know starcraft2 esports. It make sense eSports is where the money is, competition, sponsorsm advertiseing and so on.

But still as a company we are useless for them in www. hundreds of pvp players just "wasting" resources in www to have fun. A company cant have that. So they will do everything possibile to shift some of the players to spvp or turnaments pvp. I dont say they will do anything harmfull to www but in time spvp will have all the attention and www will be left to decay in time.

Hope I'm wrong and in a month from now, think at this what crap I use to write here but... we will see on the next month patch. I heared some winter "one time events" will happend so they probably implement something too.

Add rewards for escorting dolyaks, up the rewards for repairing stuff. Unless a tower/keep is under attack repairing yields no reward what so ever apart from the minimal experience. Rewards for purchasing and completing upgrades would be nice as well.

We did have rewards for that at release. But what happend was that people ONLY escorted dolyaks since that gave good and easy rewards, so they removed it.

Personally I'd like new siege weapons (I like the mine idea, I also heard the idea of barricades that are just walls you can build) and anything they can come up with to split up the zerg, at a certain point fights become less skill and more "FIRE THE AOES!"

There's nothing wrong with the Outmanned buff. It gives you increased rewards for whatever you can accomplish while against the odds, and that's all it should do.

I want basic stuff.....

  Fix culling issues.

Allow us to remove a party member that logged out without having to do a song and dance.

Give us a Raid UI for the commander tag.

Allow ranged attacks when defending from walls without having to stick your arse out over the wall to prevent obstruction.

  Remove orange swords.

Fix the Outmanned buff to something useful for PVP...like the old Orb bonuses.

I say fix these basic things first, THEN worry about new stuff.
