hey guys, i dont expect this thread to stick around but i cannot find the answer anywhere and i am in desperate need of a lore bug as i am literally freaking out because i think my house is bugged or something!!!
so im doing the Orders of Tyria Human Story Quest and when i get into the instance, a child runs up to me and starts asking to play a game. i ran around ignoring the child for a little checking out the sights (and the cool Tengu models) and then i realized this child was literally following me.
so i hit the talk interact button w/e and he asks me to play this number game.
think of a number
okay i pick 7
no dont say it out loud
okay i picked a new number (i picked the number 9 in real life in my head)
*some math, multily that number by 3, add 3 then multiply that by 3 blah blah blah*
then the kid says: your number is 9 right? then runs off.
WHAT?!?!?!?!?!
. . .
WHAT?!?!?!?!
please someone explain to me what happened. how did the game know?! did ANYONE else come across this same experience or similar with a different number?

I have not seen this, and would like to see, but there is some trick that does that in real life to, my nephew did this one time to, with the counting and the stuff, dont know how it works.
but it isnt really a lore thing, more a easter egg kind of thing.

Pick a number between one and ten. Multiply that number by 10. Subtract your original number from that. Now, divide that by your original number. Is your number now 9?
Voila. It can be done with other numbers, but that's just an example.

so this is more of a statistics thing then right? basically, we are statistically more inclined to pick numbers like 7 and 9?
but why was the game so insistant that i talked to the child? i mean the kid was following me every where and telling me to wait and stuff.

Plenty of number games that lead you to the same result no matter what..i guess it was bound to be a 9 regardless.
Lol weird quest.

its not statistics... the math gives you the same result no matter what you pick...
as to why the kid was there... it's simple... guild wars 2 tries to spice up the quests and stories a little bit so they have an impact on you and get you to maybe bond with your character, make you a little more curious and so forth... pretty much get you more involved into the game... this is just one of the many little things they've done through out the game to accomplish that and it seems to be working pretty well

yeah my wife broke it down to me, basically, whatever number you chose, it was an equation that led you right back to that number.
man. . . .
so weird though, like i paused and was terrified for a second.
ok, so yeah. . . . its the little things i suppose, makes GW2 the best game ever made.
