When I start an alt at this game, I pretty much felt 'done' by level 30ish.
Elite slot I wanted unlocked. Barring any bad picks on utility, most of the utility slots are filled with what I considered 'good picks'

Then I start picturing myself running the same dungeons I've done with my main, gearing this alt with the skins I want. Imagining what sort of build and gears I'd need to clear the content over and over.

Reality kicks in and I usually just concluded 'I'm done with this guy'. Log off, character select, go back to main for dungeons / World v World until I'm bored.

Do you face the same issue?

No, still findign lot of unexplored easter eggs on alts. choosing different main story paths. Learning different classes. Going to different area's. I just make sure i swap alot as to what i do (dungeon/wvw/explore/spvp/main story/etc) this way nothing gets boring as ye keep doing different things.

Pretty much yeah.

I just leveled my guardian alt to 70, but I was really struggling for motivation to continue passed lvl 40.  The main thing that kept me going was trying different builds.  Sadly build variety is lacking in GW2 and I'm just not a big fan of the story or the way it's told this time round, which wasn't the case in GW1.  It's a bit cheesy for my tastes.

So I'm back on my main, enjoying WvW with the odd dungeon every now n then for a change up.

I have the opposite problem.  My progress towards my legendaries has been all but halted due to my spending on alts.  I find that each play through is turning out so different that I keep bouncing around and I feel like I'm not getting the same amount "done" as I was when I was just playing my main.

I AM however, having problems finishing alts due to leveling other Alts.......  MY necro is stuck as 61 now cause I've been leveling my mes.

Nope at least not yet.

Started 5 characters took each to lvl 8 or so.
Then ran one up to 80 but when I wanted a change I spent a little time on one or more alt.

I have something like 80 30 22 17 9 so far I am not yet bored. there may be a reason for this and its that I have not yet done every map.

Asura Norn Human and Charr are all still in their own areas and the content I think goes up to 80.so they are not repeating maps already done,

The Sylvari my main has done the Sylvari and Human areas and is as far as Mount maelstrom so it is possible my Human thief will get bored following in the Sylvaris tracks.

Not at all.

My warrior is level 80, and working on his endgame armor. My guardian is 80, and is also working on endgame.

My ranger is level 57, and still levelling. I still find new stuff and rarely get bored.

My main problem with alts is that leveling "normally", that is doing hearts, events and map completion, feels like singleplayer. Low and mid level maps are empty. I feel like I am forced to craft as much possible to get to level 80 asap because there is no multiplayer before.

Oh, and Fractals hurt a lot. I have to unlock every difficulty for each character separately? Come on....

I'm glad about this, that way you wont have people logging their low level alts and complaining about me not wanting to take them to my level 20 fractal.

I enjoy playing my alts as I have one of each profession and they are each a blast.  The biggest problem is that a single player can't do a lot of the content alone and most areas seem to be dead.  I can only make real progress during large guild events when we have a zerg going.  If I had henchies or mercs then the game would be much better.

The same here...  I started on my ele, then moved on to my charr ranger, then moved to a sylvari mesmer, meanwhile also started a norn guardian and finally my asuran necromancer.  And every time it's like: I want to play that one, but I also want to play that one!

Oh yes. I have 3 lvl 80's and I have completed the map almost twice, and it's so dull to finish the other characters, I just end up doing dungeons to level them once I got them past 35.

Yep. The thought of getting my Guardian equipped for WvW is very depressing. And it's a shame because I thought this game was going to be very alt friendly.

This is pretty much the same with every MMO.  There is only a certain amount of re-playability. Rift is one of the worst because there is only a single linear path you can take to level.

Personally I think there is a fair bit of variety in this game compared to some.

Not yet.
I have 5 level 80s, with 3 between 30 and 40.

I've found there's actually a lot of flexibility available in a lot of classes late in the game.
My warrior (main) has 3 sets of armor (with 2 sets of accessories) and swaps between 3 drastically different builds, at least one of which wasn't really available until at least level 60 (but I didn't try it until 80). My Ele changes Major traits and utilities often. My guardian's build is still being tweaked. Only my Necro and Engineer are fairly static, and that's perhaps because I don't play them as much as the others.
Try heading on over to your profession's forum, and look through some of the build threads. You might well be surprised with some things you'd not thought of trying.

Well I do main a guardian. and that's all I've been doing of late. Building ANYTHING out of the 30 Valor seemed to backfire a lot. After the amount of Fractal Level difficulty division in the guild, I decided to call it quits. Fractal can rot till they sort it out.

And my first alt, now level 80 is ... an engineer. Grenades or GTFO - isn't really that fun to be honest. Fingers ache after a while jamming 1 repeatedly for quick tap aoe play. I wish they could relook into that.

I went for Elementalist and got bored of the PVE at 50+
Went warrior and slightly enjoyed the journey, now I'm lvl 30 and got kinda sick of his effectiveness. A lot of regret over not picking him as a main. He just rifle kites everything to death. How cheap is that?

I had it with some characters - but then at level 50. Sometimes I feel lvl80 is like 20 levels too much. 60 would have been right as max level, for my feeling.

Also running through the same zones with all your characters (the higher level, the less zones to pick from) gets a bit stale.
And some classes are so squishy, it starts to get tedious at a certain moment. And buying best gear to improve dps or survivability - just to throw it away a few levels further - isn't very attractive either.

No wonder my 3 highest level characters are very survivable classes.
Although i hope to get a lvl80 caster one day. I may try crafting as alternative levelling method ^^

IMO lv 30 or 50 should be the final level, since pretty much after lv 50, it is all screwed up.

Oh, I've no worries with the gear upgrades, I tend to just use karma vendors as source of upgrading. Lots of armor pieces n weapons I got were bought with karma. With the sort of daily jugs you can get nowadays, it's a breeze.

It's not like I want to craft a Legendary.

Can't say I feel the same way. Got four 80'ies and more than halfway to a fifth. Each of them has a completely different feel to them, and the way stories are build up makes it feel more interesting to replay the personal story, even if a lot of quests come up again. Tbh, this game feels much more interesting to make an alt on than most others. Hell, even in Guild Wars 1 that I played for years, even though I had several characters, I only really played my warrior and rarely my ranger.

The problem with alts is by the time i get to the 80, there'd be nobody to run the dungeons with at this state due to fractals.
Honestly, I drop my alts and just went back to main character cause there's no point bringing a lower level into dungeon when the reward is better as level 80.

I might miss out on the good chunk of XP, but I'd rather not screw up the group by arriving there on an under-geared low toon having pure DPS spec for outside dungeon exploration.

Well I guess fractals are at their peak atm - and I still find it quite easy to get groups for AC, CM and CoF.
So I wouldn't overly worry about that. Poeple (including me) will continue to level alts and want to have dungeon gear and weapons, even if it's just for the looks.

I guess leveling him up right? since getting the gear is pretty quick. but if you're having trouble with the gear, keep in mind this is a skill based game. gear helps but just a little bit a full set of rares can be aquired very easily in less then a day and its more then good enough to start with!

You need to learn crafting professions your main does not have, that helps. Also my alts do more wvw then my main to keep wvw fresh and interesting playing from another prospective, that being my alt.  Doing map completion for the bonuses is nice. Use your alt to finish dailies and get the exp reward. I have a 50 thief and I only did pve to the first 8 levels. 400 in two trades and lots of fun in wvw

After getting 1 character up to 80 with 100% map completion I found it hard to find the motivation to level my 2nd character after hitting level 20-30. Only when I finally got him to 80 I started having fun with him again, as I could invest in proper gear and try him out in dungeon groups.

i did read the OP, he's saying that he is essentially "done" with a character by level 30.  and i replied back saying that im almost level 30 and i dont feel done.
