If you really want to see a wide range of gameplay experiences, play an elementalist for 10 levels and then play a warrior for 10 levels. Then see if you play the elementalist ever again.
... Snip
I understand your feeling exactly. My 1st char is GW2 is an ely and I leveled her up to 40s. It was the hardest one to play not to mentioned GW2 is my 1st MMO ever & I don't get used to play w/ keyboard. I died so often while soloing so I made a Norn Guardian as my main and wow, the experience is completely 180 deg difference. I leveled my Guardian to 80, run dungeons & all sort of things. Then I made another alt human warrior and level her up to 80 and haven't decided what's best for her. One time in a AC dungeon w/ a low level group of newbies, we had a hard time to clear path 3 burrows due to our low DPS group, we asked an ely friend in level 40s in to help AOE the area. It was amazing to see how the ely works the area w/ support from us to protect her. After that incident, I decided to remake my ely (I deleted her because I don't like her face, body etc - 1st char I ever made).
Long story short, the ely is my main char now at level 80 and I really enjoy playing her. She looks great, does awesome damage w/ D/D & staff and she still has all mixed up green & rare knight armors (I haven't decided what's would my best armor for her). I also tried the conjurer hammer & great sword traits and it's so awesome. Point is I didn't know how to play an ely before and it's a complicated learning process to learn to play an ely properly relative to other professions. But you are correct. Completely different game playing experience from ely to other professions those I have tried.
Back to the OP topic, I have 5 chars, 3s at 80 as indicated above and 2 other at 30s. Each of them (except the war & ely are human) is a different race with different story line, different starting area and different profession so I won't be bored. I probably will keep the mesmer but at this point in time, I don't have any feeling for the ranger. After leveling 3 characters to 80s, I feel like I want to take a step back to learn to play my 80 chars a little bit better, before trying something else because I've recognized in the same high level zone (70-80), each of my char has to handle the same situation a bit different that the others.
