Snip...

If you really want to see a wide range of gameplay experiences, play an elementalist for 10 levels and then play a warrior for 10 levels.  Then see if you play the elementalist ever again.

... Snip

I understand your feeling exactly. My 1st char is GW2 is an ely and I leveled her up to 40s. It was the hardest one to play not to mentioned GW2 is my 1st MMO ever & I don't get used to play w/ keyboard. I died so often while soloing so I made a Norn Guardian as my main and wow, the experience is completely 180 deg difference. I leveled my Guardian to 80, run dungeons & all sort of things. Then I made another alt human warrior and level her up to 80 and haven't decided what's best for her. One time in a AC dungeon w/ a low level group of newbies, we had a  hard time to clear path 3 burrows due to our low DPS group, we asked an ely friend in level 40s in to help AOE the area. It was amazing to see how the ely works the area w/ support from us to protect her. After that incident, I decided to remake my ely (I deleted her because I don't like her face, body etc - 1st char I ever made).

Long story short, the ely is my main char now at level 80 and I really enjoy playing her. She looks great, does awesome damage w/ D/D & staff and she still has all mixed up green & rare knight armors (I haven't decided what's would my best armor for her). I also tried the conjurer hammer & great sword traits and it's so awesome. Point is I didn't know how to play an ely before and it's a complicated learning process to learn to play an ely properly relative to other professions. But you are correct. Completely different game playing experience from ely to other professions those I have tried.

Back to the OP topic, I have 5 chars, 3s at 80 as indicated above and 2 other at 30s. Each of them (except the war & ely are human) is a different race with different story line, different starting area and different profession so I won't be bored. I probably will keep the mesmer but at this point in time, I don't have any feeling for the ranger. After leveling 3 characters to 80s, I feel like I want to take a step back to learn to play my 80 chars a little bit better, before trying something else because I've recognized in the same high level zone (70-80), each of my char has to handle the same situation a bit different that the others.

a full set of rares can be aquired very easily in less then a day
Really, you an make 12-15 gold in a day?
Most rares are 2 gold and up at the TP.
Please tell us how can a casual player make 12+ gold in the typical 2-4 hours of playing time they have in a 'day.'

Sounds like you are getting confused with exotics.

WvW + Personal story your alts... it makes level 30-80 a lot more enjoyable. The problem with alts is having to slog through all the same vistas and hearts is very boring.

At 80 only the Exotics are really expensive, one gold could be made easily and that pays for about a half set of Rares which are about 30-50 silver each.

Doing daily on Lvl 40ish gets you a few silvers. Doing daily on Lvl 71-80 gets you a few silvers (5). Both cases give you a few extra silver from the Mystic Coin.

AC dungeon and graveling burrows is one example where the elementalist excels. With Frost Bow, to a lesser extent, Conjure Firey Greatsword and their usual AoE weapon skills, the elementalist can easily level those burrows in no time. Also, built & traited right, or at least played with some skill, the elementalist can easily look after itself while providing good support for the rest of the team with boons and a variety of combo fields.

Hmm no not even close... but yeah like Foxbat pointed out rares go for 20s - 25s  a piece not 2g

Also you can craft stuff yourself... For light armor it costs me about 1g in materials per piece and you can shave  alot of that if you farm the materials yourself. For exotic armor you could probably manage to farm a piece a day or maybe per 2 days max

No have 5 characters and buying a slot for the next one this week.  I always have stuff to do and never get bored.  My main is level 80 by the way and she isn't even close to being done.

And how is this any different than in other MMORPGs?  In fact, it's WORSE in other MMOs because every zone experience for every character is exactly the same.  In GW2, the stuff you run across on one character won't always be the same for an alt, unless you specifically sit there and wait for the dynamic event to start.  In other games, you do the exact same quests with the exact same objectives with the exact same outcome with the exact same rewards.

In other MMOs, I feel like there's no point in alts at all because once I've got one character to the max level I've already seen everything, and swapping from DPS to Tank or Healer won't change that.

But it also depends on the person.  Some people like having multiple characters with different strengths and weaknesses, while others don't.  So what's the heart of the issue here?  Are we just trying to find people that feel the same as the OP, or are we trying to suggest that GW2 is "flawed" in a subtle way?
