Hey all!

This is pretty informal/unscientific, but I thought it would be cool to see (or at least attempt to see) if there was any relation between one's personality and their RPG class choice (specifically for GW2 professions).

If you don't know your Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) personality type, there are multiple free tests available online:

The poll/form:

I'll update this post with stats/graphs in 24-48 hours. I also posted this over at r/GuildWars2 in hopes of getting some more responses. Thanks for your time! :)

Update 1:
We're not quite 12 hours into the poll, but we're at 550+ responses. <3!

Update 2:
Giant pivot table of 500+ respondents:

This is just preliminary data, and I don't see any real correlations, but it is interesting that ISTJ's seem to slightly lean toward the Guardian profession (though that could just be attributed to sample size/randomness). ISTJs are part of the Guardian Keirsey Temperament, and are described as being super-dependable, persevering, and dutiful. I'm probably just reading too much into it though. :D

Also, I have not yet figured out how to include the people with borderline personalities or multiple/all/no mains, so this chart does not include those.

ISTP - Guardian & Elementalist

Since you already post this thread on here and Reddit, why don't you post this on the GW2 official forum, too?  Might help fish in a few more replies, no?

Can't really do this quiz as I play multiple classes to varying extents, and my mains tend to change from time to time -  and more importantly, every time I do this test I get a different result >_>

Anyway, this time it's ISTJ - Thief (I also play Engi, Mes, Guard and most recently Ranger)

ENFP (in both tests) - warrior.

Extravert(56%)  iNtuitive(50%) Feeling(75%)  Perceiving(44)%

Enthusiastic, idealistic and creative. Able to do almost anything that interests them. Great people skills. Need to live life in accordance with their inner values. Excited by new ideas, but bored with details. Open-minded and flexible, with a broad range of interests and abilities.

But well, in other games I've had other favourite classes.
In fact it's the first time ever my fav class in a mmo isn't a healer or caster!

INTP - Guardian/Warrior

Interesting to see my results, though I wonder if I had answered all the questions from a game perspective, I'm sure I would have come to a different result. I just find that there are few people around me that share my interests.

EDIT:
For the heck of it I put in the answers as I deemed them fit when I am playing the game.
Result was ISTJ

Apparently I am far more sensible and judging in game than in real life. Also extremely thinking where in real life I'm somewhat balanced in that aspect.

Introverts and MMOs don't seem to mix well. A contradiction somewhat.

INTJ mes, necro, and ele, by the way. All the scholar professions.

That first site doesn't give that four letter thingie, and the second site doesn't work...  So, I hope I got it correct (using the wikipedia site to find the letters for the 8 preferences...)

Edit
The link in this post works...

The first site gave me as an Independent Thinker (INTJ, but the N was barely a N)
The second site gave me a ISTJ, and the S is barely a S (12%)...

My main is a ranger

It's a misconception that introverts don't like being around people. It's just that interacting with people for long periods can be very mentally draining on them. That said, it can definitely be a handicap if the game doesn't have some sort of automated grouping system. Introverts use up a lot of their mental energy in the process of putting together the pug in the first place. This doesn't leave them in a good position to focus on the dungeon's challenges.

Truthfully, part of why I throw my lot in with GW2 in the MMO market is precisely because it's a lot more introvert-friendly for various reasons. Notably that befriending people through actions in the game world itself happens much more naturally. It also helps that introversion and soloing isn't "punished" with being limited to subpar-performing PvE gear.

The OP's curiosity aside, I think sociologists should consider publishing a paper on the game.

Indeed.  That's one reason why I like GW2. I can play with my friends, but I'm not forced to play with strangers.  But I do see people passing by and play with them without strings attatched.  I also hate to put PUG's together, but if I'm in a party with one or more friends and some strangers join, I don't care, as long as I'm not the one that needs to fill the party up.

The weird thing about the Myer-Briggs-Test is that it seems to produce more than 66% INTJs all the time.

INTJ - Ranger.
