I have never seen any concrete information from ANet saying what the population caps are.  I also thought it was 500 per map, but I've never seen it written out.  Anyone have any sources to support any of these numbers?

It is 500 per map, divided 3 ways.  166 per side.

No source atm, but he speaks the truth.  They said all 4 maps will be about 2k people.  So divide it 4 ways, it's about 166-167 per map.
That was stated in beta.  But my count in game has never supported that number.  Based on experience on HoD and SoS, I am pretty sure it is, and has always been about 100.  No more then 120.

If it were 160, we would be seeing THREE 50 man zergs on a map.  or a 1 100 man zerg, and one 50.
Even during hay day of HoD I have never seen anything like that.

1 50-60 man zerg, 1 20 man zerg, and 20 randoms scouting? sure.

Every SM defense, etc.  if it was 166, we would know it.  It would be obvious.  100 man in SM lords room would be noticeable, while still allowing 66 people running around doing other stuff.

Facechecking... that's fighting on or near a keep/tower without any real organization... usually while getting picked off by siege or door humping defenders.  Also saw you guys try and fail to set up siege in spots that were easily counter treb'd/cata'd.

I'm not going so far as to say you guys weren't good but you certainly aren't any better than your opponents last night.  My favorite part last night was farming lowlands while waves of SBI poured in on suicide runs.  Lots and lots of badges.  Same thing for defending trebs against failed attacks outside the wall at hills.

Do you guys really think you're the only ones out there that are are organized or have skill?

Vihar, these guys just won't ever get it, it seems...

The only information I found was here

http://wiki.guildwar...W#Participation

Where they say "Player limits are not yet finalized".  I've seen numerous references to "when population caps are hit, people will be placed in a queue", but no one from ANet has ever said what those caps are (or at least I haven't seen it).

How'd that work out for ya?

Another one of your zingers when you had the lead...

Actually, if you read properly, I have repeatedly stated that you have more numbers and are more motivated, and twice congratulated you on a legitimate win.

I don't know what happened to SBI...it's lost it's balls and is far too full of Stormpuff PVE heroes gathering omnomberries.

    Is that clear enough?

Could have changed.  But the official word I saw back before the game was coming out was 500 per map divided 3 ways.  If they've changed that I do not know.  Just going by what was said back then.

  You just suck at PVP.

We didn't give a crap about trying to take Hills. That was not our purpose.

Yeah, thats the beta quote from reddit.  And the only comment I have ever seen about it.
But like I said, every attempt to get a count, I get numbers closer to 100.

Was there ever this much drama when SBI was getting beat by HoD all the time? This is going to be the exact same thing now, both sides better get used to it.

It's not really all that much drama, it's about half a dozen people on a forum going back and forth. Don't over-hype it.

I know man, aren't stories just great?  I mean, you guys can tell these heroic stories and then I tell mine... its a bonding process.

You never stop to think that when you die in game... you just shrug and respawn.  You don't think about how there's a bunch of people in Teamspeak somewhere laughing because they thought you died because you sucked.  You laughed at me and I laughed at you.

Let's keep bonding, bro.

Well we are still beating JQ by a healthy amount. Maybe this is normal and nothing happened to us, but SoS is just much more populated (like HoD).

We are HoD with outmanned buff on the weekend and instant to 5 minute queues.  Yeah, okay.

AoS is the only thing left on failing JQ and it's like Fire... lol, amassing everything with a pulse... I wouldn't call that a guild. JQ isn't squat without MMAC, AoS wants to be good but I don't know, we got camped last night and it was awful. Everyone was fighting in TS and name calling. You guys don't run a tight ship at all, it's more like just 10 commanders fighting for biggest weenie. As soon as Menaace and the gang picked up and left JQ with their night crew, JQ just sank to the bottom of the pile and will end up in the middle tiers over the next month. I don't know why I didn't go with them, you bads even troll your own guildies!

I promised myself I would not respond to one of your trolling posts Menaace but I just had to post on this one. You are no longer on JQ so will you please just stop talking rubbish.

How can everyone be fighting in our JQ TS last night when its been down for nearly 24 hours? I would love to know how you can be present in TS to hear this arguing when the server is currently kaput.

As to the other MMAC rubbish, I'll keep out of it. That is between you and your ex guildies who left you to form AoS.The only thing I will say is that the AoS folks on the server are a good bunch and fight well and we are pleased to have them there.

Well, at any rate....in case anyone missed it...

Gratz on the win SoS. There was a fight and you showed up for it, with enthusiasm.

Sadly, I don't think JQ or SBI will be able to put up much of a fight next week, either, for whatever reasons.

I may take tonite off, but I'll be seeing you again Friday and into next week, I believe....so you'll get your opportunities to prove me wrong.

You won't, but you'll get your chance.

The player count during beta fluctuated wildly from very large numbers to its minimum in BWE3 (Where it completely broke down and one server in the tier1 match had like 50 people with the other two having 10 each, lol).

These days it seems more consistent at around 100 people each.

I've never trusted ArenaNet's statement on player cap because of how wrong they've been in the past on player cap. I also don't trust the full/high ratings of server population because the bars they set seem to change wildly. And I of course don't trust the player count at gw2guilds.org, really nobody should.

All that matters for determining which servers are winning is the current WvW score. Every server has good players, every server has enough population to fill the the maps and every server has what it takes to win. But only one server can.

Yeah houdi was a riot. It's no surprise that the loudest guild in TA was also the weakest. Houdi and TRF were always the chihuahuas barking on the coattails of the pitbulls like PRX.

This is exactly why a server would deserve to lose. Don't you see that throwing in the towel is a guaranteed loss? SoS had a 30k+ deficit early in the week and have come back from it, why can't you?

Exactly, they did say several weeks ago they dialed down the caps to help with the invisible armies issue but there are no published numbers at present. All we can assume is that the cap is the same for all sides.

Folks need to be careful with the outmanned buff as well. If your side is judged to be outmanned not everyone on your side appears to be awarded the outmanned buff as far as I can see. I have been in plenty of parties on the same map where some of us have it and others don't. I don't quite know how it works but I assume that only a number of your side equal to the difference between the sides get awarded it. Anyone know for sure?

So here are the reasons SoS is winning...

Last week. PvE sucked all the WvW's and SBI and JQ had the top guilds doing the event and farming Fractals...

This Week. SoS sucks in the open field, we roll you when we are out numbered, we are burned out, top guilds leaving, and we are only farming badges and kills oh and SoS is teaming up with JQ to 2 v 1 SBI...

Okay I think I get it... SoS is comprised of Zerg Guilds and is winning because of a 3 to 1 server precense... I get it now....

Well if that what it takes to win in T1 I am down with that...

Edited for sarcastic tone...

Did SoS have issues with Fractals? If so, how did they recover? If not, why not?
Does SoS really have more people or do they have more people that WvW?
Why would an entire server be burned out when you didn't WvW the week before due to Fractals? I mean that was the excuse right?

I just don't understand.

I am sure if it was that easy to fix they would. Remember this is SBI you are talking about. At one time there was no denying they were a powerhouse server. I know, JQ has been on the end of it. I am sure BG and IOJ would say the same thing from matches a few weeks back. For whatever reason they can't get the numbers into WvW like they used to across all timezones. JQ is in the same boat to some extent.  I am not making excuses here. Don't don't take this the wrong way. Your server is currently "better" than both JQ and SBI however you want to measure it and you deserve credit for last weeks and most likely this weeks wins.

JQ are trying to get more folks into WvW, I am sure SBI are trying to do the same but its not as easy as you suggest given the state of the game and the competitive gaming landscape beyond GW2 at present.

I am concerned how we fix the collective issue of WvW and get numbers back into the fights for the sake of all our servers. Winning is fun but there can only be one winner. Good fights for both the loser and winner that are close enough to keep the adrenaline pumping to the end of the match up are what will keep WvW alive. Right now you are sitting pretty and have no issues in that regard. At some point I will bet you will.

Anyway, hope to see you on the battlefield.

ah that might explain it, thanks. I also wondered whether you might not get it until you actually die, e.g. you are in WvW and not outmanned, later your map is in outammned status but you have not died or used a waypoint and someone new maps in and joins your party and picks up the outmanned buff but you are still left without it until you die etc.

I would add never trust the count of most of the players themselves either. I've seen people cry OMG ZERG!! when there is a necromancer with all his pets out accompanied by a couple humans with their hounds out. That's how 3 people can chase of 10 without even hitting their auto attack.

  • Don't know
  • Don't know
  • More people that concentrate on WvW, which is awesome.
  • We've been here a while, it's tiresome and trying at times.  I've seen guilds get ticked off at each other, guilds quit, people leave, people switch sides, etc.  It's not just the last 2 weeks.  It's been ongoing thing.  New people and new tactics help make it refreshing, unfortunately for many that happened on a release of new shininess.  So the usual didn't happen, now it's a second week of the same ol' that a lot didn't experience to begin with, but feel like they did.  Of course that is purely speculation on my part.

You still have better coverage than either us or JQ, and that's all that matters. Having true HoD-level population is just overkill and will not happen again due to inherent population drop in the game.

One guy on the forums saying this does not mean the whole server is going to fold.  30k deficit in 30 hours is definitely doable.  The one thing I don't get (and I'm really not trying to troll here), is last week at this time we were still hearing how SBI were the comeback kids.  I haven't heard that even though it is still possible to comeback.

Just as a pure forum troll, I would love it if SBI did comeback and win.  I'm not even kidding, that would make my week.
