250 ectos is "real money spent", no matter which way you twist it.
The ring is RNG. I know several people who haven't received one at 20+ and are basically being carried through Jade Maw.
lol@Jade Maw. That was the first fractal I did iirc..wasn't it w/ bunch of tentacles and colossus? Reminded me of the watcher from LoTRO. Since NC games are all "Truly Free" <lol>, I don't think ANET will go the sub route but, will come up with high mats requirement that will force some people to buy the gold thru gem store to fund the mats. I strongly believe, ANET understood many people do not have a lot of motivation to spend real money for skin. So, ANET hoped with some increased stats, those guys will probably pony up the cash. I used to get 1-3 ectos (with 3 being the most liely number) when I used to salvage 76+ rares. Few days back, when I got 1 from an 80 rare, I considered myself lucky. ANET's modus operandi has completely changed from the previous years. It must be the "MMO" effect.

What is retarded is that people are still willing to chase this gear knowing what it takes to get it. They're sending a terrible message to these devs. One that makes gamers in general look really dumb.
Actually, the people who do it, love it. That's why they go with rinse and repeat. Same applies to the event farmers. I, honestly, did not find much difference between fractal 1 and 6 or 7. I think that's where I kinda stopped. I wanted to see all the maps but, was getting the golem/Old Tom map in every rotation. At the present time, GW2 lacks depth and clarity. Last patch was a missed opportunity for ANET to add depth and provide some clarity about what they wanted to do with GW2.
IMHO, GW succeeded because it had many forms of PvP whereas GW2 PvP is kinda set aside and obscure. I think ANET should have spent some time thinking more about WvW and improving it while adding new PvP formats and highlighting it. But, they felt more compelled to impress the gear grinders.
