Who all hasn't hit 80 yet?

So I wondered who else hasn't made it? I see everyone talking about Orr and 80s and I've never been there. If you don't have a maxed character, where the heck are you hanging out? Because like others have mentioned, a lot of areas are so dead I jump for joy when I see another character (and not a bot).

I really wish killing shit would give more XP in this game.
Also, I wish killing shit didn't take forever.

I just don't see much reason to go forward further with my main, solo play just getting annoying with OP mobs that insta-respawn when you get towards Orr and most of the time I just spend what little time I have online chatting or meeting with friends rather than trying to 'finish' the game

I've seen some really weird respans in Timberline Falls, so whenever I see another player, I cheer inside and follow them. lol Except for the jerks that wiped a bunch of drakes off on me and left me to die.

Now I'm back to PvE but still not rushing to 80...working on map completion.

This is precisely one of the things about the game that saddens me a lot...wasted effort on space and environment that is hardly ever seen or enjoyed by anybody. And the people we do see in these areas are usually just passing through, for world completion I guess.

it isn't wasted on me. I JUST turned 80, and i've only cleared 7 zones, 3 dungeons, and the cities. i'm having a fine time taking in the unofficial views.

I understand where you are coming from with the XP thing when killing mobs, I came from FF11, and that's all it was as far as leveling went.
After you adjust to moving around a lot, and trying to jump from event to event, and do some hearts/explore, it gets very easy to level. You just have to pay attention to your map, and figure out where the events happen, escorts, and defend etc.

OK, the use of 'anybody' in my original post was admittedly extreme. What I actually meant was that these areas are missed by the vast majority of people, some of whom later complain about 'lack of content' in the game.
Geez...I know everybody has opinions that are valid to a certain extent, but 'lack of content'? I still have 6 professions to level to 80 and want to master all 8 of them. Plus the huge number of areas I have yet to see. Don't get me wrong, I do *want* to see all areas, participate in and complete all events. But sometimes the huge number of dead areas is such a turnoff for exploration. Why do we want to spend ages trying to clear entire areas by ourselves when we could join a group of friends for a dungeon run?

Eventually I'll be doing that with my bro. Currently we're both busy with a few other friends with other in-game things. My bro is after a legendary so the map completion is a given necessity, whereas I am not really fussed with it. But when he goes for map completion, so will I.
Quite a few others are not so blessed however, with a close relative/ friend to run with. It's rather unfortunate that over half of my in-game friends haven't logged in for ages and I'm really left wondering why. My guess is that a lot of people do play the game alone.

Yeah, it slows down and gets real grindy during the middle levels. That's why it took me almost three months to finally get to 80. The game is just more fun at lower levels with that snappy paced gameplay.

Mine you I have invested a lot more time in the TP & I prob would have maxed sooned if I had my "Eye on the lvl 80 prize".
EDIT:
IMO anyone with more than 3 lvl 80 Chars at this point obviously has wayyy too much time on their hands. I have 3 young boys to look after & wonder how may other parents out there have more than 1 or 2 lvl 80 characters?

Sounds like they're using the Southpark method of leveling. That would probably be why they think opponents should give more experience as well, because they don't do anything but kill random NPCs.
I have 4 level 80 characters, one at 62, 37, 21, and 15. Don't forget crafting, though, that allowed me to skip from level 40 to the more interesting 60 on my ranger, guardian, and thief.

Yeah, I never jump around the map. The waypoint fee signals that walking around is what you SHOULD be doing, so if there's a chance to avoid it - I do exactly that. And this clearly results in having a poor gaming experience, but if that's how A.net wants the game to be - then so be it.
Of course, then my levelling experience is made even longer because I get bored of the poor experience and I move to a different character.

I do have a lvl80 but haven't been to Orr yet. And where I hang out? Wherever I feel like going. My favourite area for now is Frostgorge Sound. But I think I'll go take a trip back to Ascalon and finish Plains and start that area where Ebonhawke is.

Feels like ive literally played the game for a lifetime, had the game since launch, its hard to believe there is so much more to go. I Literally havn't even scratched the surface considering theres still post Lv 80 with Gearing/Dungeons ect
Been taking my sweet time thats for sure (absolutely loving in doing so) Exploring every map zone i visit peice by peice making sure im not missing anything, ensuring i complete ever heart and skill point even in the zone (given they are not glitched). Only recently started to play PVP, never realised how fun and time you can spend playing countless matches. Done every Personal story event (up to my level) and done every Story mode dungeon that is availible.
Id definatly say im a Casual player, only because of work and other things that stop me from playing too much though
