Anyone else having a hard time choosing your main class?
i'm having a realy hard time choosing the right class as a main in RPGs and i hate to lvl in all games i play so i generaly only lvl 1 char to max lvl and most of the time i find out later that it was not the right class for me to lvl. I'm realy frustrated over that i can't realy choose the right class from the beginning and need to make a new char and start over again. Then if i had pickt the right class from the start i could have continued to progress on that one instead.

so if anyone know some tips/tricks/tests that helps you know what class/archetype fits you i would be whery greatful if you could post.
also if you could post how you found your fav archetype it would be great.
And would it not be great if mmo dev could put in a optional test in their game just so you could get examples of what would maybe fit you.

sorry if my english is bad not my first language.

Try this one - it seems outdated, but it's not. Written in funny style but actually hits the spot about the theme/flavor of every class.
Good luck!

I nearly always start with a ranger its been my favourite class since D&D came out in the 70s, I also love the traditional Wizard type classes, so ele necro etc.

Had to try out Engineer Thief and Guardian because they were new, leveling in this game is pretty easy because you can get loads of points just exploring or crafting.

What is your play style ? ranged sniping, Nuking close in and dirty etc.

I wish I could give you sound advice - but I'm the opposite of you because I love leveling but dislike being at max level (because my character progression stops there) so I'm in a bit of a pickle here.

The only thing I could possibly advise you is to 1) research the classes thoroughly beforehand so that you know more or less what they offer and if they appeal to you, 2) try to get in betas so you can actually try your main choices out a bit and 3) go with what your gut tells you. This is not always possible though - for example I knew from before the official announcement that the Agent would be my class in SWTOR, but it took me a long time and many characters leveled from 1/4th to halfway to settle on my Thief as my current main in GW2.

Good luck in finding your class bud!

Always soldiers.

On top of the fact that soldiers are really the best GW2 classes, the guardian offers you a fantastic mix of a physical and magical class, giving you some extra flavour that will come in handy on the days when you feel like doing something different.

I'll be coming more from TES side, so Bear with me :)

My favourite class ever since Morrowind was the Healer. It had plenty of defense(Restoration/Alteration), utility(Restoration/Alteration/Alchemy/Speechcraft/...-whole class LoL!) and it is a social class to boot(me being ENFP{actually xNFP-I am 55/45 on Extroversion} likes social classes). Everything I wanted! Keep in mind tho-it is not your typical MMO Priest. The second favourite class in TES would be Knight. I Like the background, skills(Blade/H. Armor/Speechcraft/Mercantile/Armorer/Block) and the Third would be the Crusader(Blade/H. Armor/Destruction{actually ought to be Illusion-Drains which are staple of Crusader belong in Illusion}/Block/Armorer). I usually Like Robed classes, but I am not averse to Heavy Armor classes as well-Light Armor classes SUCK! I also dislike melee unless Sword n Shield(exactly those two-Spears can work as well).

How do I choose them? In MMOs I try Defensive spellcasters(not necessarily Healers-I like classes such as Aion's Spiritmaster)/Tanks first. If I Like any of those good-if not MMO is in trouble.

You could also try googling "RPG character test" or "RPG character quiz". One of more known ones is Nodiatis' test-you must've seen it before. Be creative...

Edit: Also, I forgot to mention that if I Like several classes-that is when the game is in the Real trouble. I keep hopping between them and that TOTALLY ruins it for me. I do not care about endgame and I prefer if the whole game is the "endgame"-i.e. Horizontal progression.

I <3 <3 Defensive classes!
