The problem is that many of the other skins are simply more impressive. I notice people with the halloween chainsaw easily and yet often i have to be told someone has a legendary. That greatsword that "leaks paint" i do notice, but really, its not that eyecatching.

I think that one of the problems is that items are not connected to deeds. They simply show that you played the auction house well, you were lucky or that you were "in early" before the prices of X were corrected for us slowbies.

Back in warcraft, in the early days, PVP Grand Marshall gear and titles were eyecatching *and* they meant something. Even later when you could earn them more easily, they *still* had meaning. If someone was rocking pvp gear or specialist dungeon gear, it was beyond argument that they were good at that field of play. Or, at least that they spent a serious amount of time in that playstyle, still a worthy statement.

I do WvW and the only thing i can earn there that looks good is a blue tag over my head....and i dont even earn that through deeds either, its through having 100 gold. Thats a tragedy and yet, its something i aspire to because i often take a command role.

This game is about making money and that is the only achievement we can show off to our fellow players.

I've been playing the game with the intent of getting a Legendary.  I haven't spent all of my game time specifically working towards it, but making decisions and prioritizing things that would at least be working towards a portion of it.

All in all, I think the Legendary is a great idea, and has been implemented pretty well.  The combines are truly legendary and do require you to have a) skill b ) devoted a lot of time to farming c) explore/participat in lots of different areas/aspects of the game.

However, I do have but 1 major gripe.  The Precursor.  At this point, the precursor is now all that remains between me and a Legendary weapon.

I don't need to say much more, because it has all been said at great length already.  Suffice to say, the RNG method of getting the precursor is very disappointing, and I cry a little every time I throw another 50 weapons into the MF only to walk away with nothing.

(p.s. Arena Net would make a lot of people happy if they made a new vendor that sold Obsidian Shards, rather than the temple of Balth vendor.  The vendor should be a permanent , or a least reasonably available, source.)

I am perfectly content with my exotic weapons transmuted on tier 3 asuran weapon skins.

A legendary by the end of the year? No way. It's taken me this long just to get my three characters to nearly 80.

I may put in the effort someday, but if I do I expect to be a long term goal where I work on it a little bit at a time, not something I'll grind out over a couple weeks.

Anyways was just curious, that was a goal I set for myself with the cheap legendary I am making. Cost 300g less gold the my main hand, but still cost 500g to make in total mats not include all of the mats I have farmed for. I did not expect gold to be the hardest thing to get now, all of the early posts I have read early in the game said it was karma :P.

given what's going on lately by Anet focusing on shoving Ascended gears down our throats, you people think Legendary items will go the way of becoming irrelevant? If Ascended gears have same stats and cool skins, why bother with legendary items?

I might way later on.. I just wish the bows looked better (specifically the shortbow, the longbow is OK).

Legendaries will always be the top tier.  Once ascended weapons are released, legendaries will have their stats adjusted to match.

Maybe if I'm still around in a years time (doubt it), I might have enough to purchase a precursor.

I will probably have my kudzu complete within the next 2 weeks.  All I have left is the gift of fortune and I'm well on my way to making that.  Not requiring lodestones has made things alot easier, instead I just had to run around and chop down a whole bunch (thousands) of trees.

I don't think I'll ever do this again though.  It hasn't been all bad I enjoyed alot of it but I just feel like my hands are tied in everything I do, especially when gold is a factor.

I thought that was a pretty big enough hint that perhaps legendaries were not meant to be rush-acquired this way.

There are plenty of ways for Anet to limit the speed people could have gotten their legendaries without adding grind to it.
Unfortunately they seemed to have done nothing.

I rather spend my time getting all the other cool skins. I just cant bring that kind of singular purpose to a video game. I play for fun and want to do whatever I want when I feel like it even if it nets me nothing useful.

Getting a legendary just isn't in my future, even if a precursor fell in my lap I would likely just sell it and move on.

Would rather play multiple classes and get various armor skins for them instead. Playing on a single character constantly without change and never experiencing other classes? Not my kinda thing.

For me , all legendaries look like crap. Probably hammer one has a chance. No way to get one just to be cool and have ppl looking at me. Gonna wait for 2nd wave. Until then I collect all non-legendary skins that actually look better.

I do not plan to ever have one. I don't like the looks of most of them and that is why you would get one in the first place.
So, unless they come out with some skin that I just can't live without then no I will not be going after one.

Tried going for Frostfang since the precursor was cheaper. However, since I only play 2-3 hours a day and like 4 days a week, I've realized that its not possible for me, and I don't want to waste time playing the TP.

I know at least 4 more (including me) who will not bother. None of the skins appeal to any of us. Sadly. We've got the time, ability. Just not the motivation.

Don't get me wrong, enjoying the game and plan to for a long while.

Just some of the armor and weapon skins have us scratching our heads, wondering why these are the things we are supposed to want to attain.

Once I've sorted some technical issues, I'll spend my time creating a texture mod to erase the legendary item placeholder icon from my log in screen instead.

Not only am I working on a legendary (kudzu), but I'm also working on two shortbow skins from the mystic forge (Winter's Bark and Aether). Both of which look better, to me, than The Dreamer and take about 3/4 of the materials to make as a legendary (250 ancient shortbow staves each . . . hurray, and gifts of frost and light respectively).

So I have months of chopping trees in my future.

Maybe if the legendary had way higher stats then exotics I'd waste my time to obtain one but right now they're not worth the effort for a different skin on my weapon.

Like Tier 3 cultural armor & commander book all legendaries do is keep gold farmers employed.  I'd bet if they investigated everyone who has tier 3 cultural armor or commander 99% of them bought gold from a 3rd party farmer.

...The game has been out for 3 months. People that play regularly since launch shound have earned around 100g by now. Except if they keep creating an alt once they hit level 30.

that's exactly what it is...plus it takes way too much probability/chance thing to get the ingredients. I HATE that... if i put in the time, i want to get it. I don't want some computer generator telling me if i deserve it.
Clovers require this but really nothing else(other than precursor I suppose) and when trying to get clovers you'll also get lots of T6 mats which are also required so really while it may be "chance" everything you put into trying to get clovers eventually helps you get your legendary.

Farming used to be a LOT easier, ever since release it's gone downhill so people that got into farming early probably have well over 1k gold without much effort however those that choose to try out other things and not jump right into farming now have options that earn a fraction of what they used to.

Ok I'll tell anet to investigate your account then since you did it legitimately.

Well all the legendary weapons look uninteresting to me personally...add that to the fact you have to obsess yourself with getting one in order to achieve and maybe 2%-5% of the whole player base will get one in the lifetime of the game. This leads me to believe that vastly cooler skins, or even full on weapons stated the same as legendary will become available via the Gem Shop. Arena Net already bold faced lied about the no grinding, no gear treadmill, and no useless items for crafting, so why not also lie about selling power (and way cooler looking items) to players via micro transactions? Wouldn't be the first cornerstone of the design philosophy ANet hasn't upheld...and frankly it wouldn't surprise me in the slightest.

That being said, I'm just holding out until WAY cooler looking armor and weapons arrive on the gem shop, and if they're even stat'ed top tier gear that's even better! When that happens I'll officially be able to hate Arena Net.

Just because something seems out of reach for you doesn't mean it is for everyone.  When the game was only a month old yeah I was thinking the same thing but in my guild alone we have 2 commanders now and a number of people with tier 3 armors.  None of which has been ill gotten.  You can tell them to investigate my account all you want because I know I've earned every ounce of it.  As well as a number of people who already have their legionaries; because I farmed right along side them as they did it.
