Me and a few friends on my teamspeak are all very excited about the new wintersday event and were trying to figure out what items would be needed so we could avoid the evil 1% of market gougers! We all agree mint leafs will be part of the event but my question to you guys is what do you think of the price and supply? Should I save up enough money to buy as stack in advance so as to avoid inflated prices during the event? Or do you think there is enough supply that I can just wait for the event and see what actually involves the mint leaf? I would appreciate any real advice you could provide. Me and my friends are rather new so we don’t have much gold right now :/ and we don’t want to be left behind and find ourselves unable to buy any of these if the price sky rockets.

Sincerly,

LooneyToons[WB] guild

Some people thought it would be clever to hoard Sugar Pumpkins and Ghost Pepper before the halloween event started,

It was a bad idea.

No, it was a great idea for them. They made posts similar to this after they had already stocked up, watched the prices shoot up, dumped theirs off and watched as everyone else was now stuck with trash.

Halloween didn't use any mats that were available before the event (for the most part). I assume Wintersday will have a winter equivalent of Candy Corn.

Well pumpkins are a requirement for crafting Spicy Pumpkin Cookies; a lvl 400 recipe which could be bought during Halloween. The cookies have the same magic find stats as Omnomberri Bars; so saving up pumpkins was not a bad idea after all.

Yeah someone wants to dump a bunch of mint leaves.  Sell price almost doubled in past day.  Please people don't fall for this. Think of all the poor people who heard black lion chests would be a good investment and then purchased 250 at 50 copper each.

I really hope guru starts putting in rules about market manipulation topics, forums users with barely any posts on the forums just posting market speculation and manipulation threads every week or so...

Getting old..

Spicy Pumpkin Cookies have the same stats as Cups of Lotus Fries, an item that has always been fairly cheap. Not sure but even now the cookies should be more expensive than the fries. Which tells us that speculating on some sort of super event-only food is not a good idea.

I meant it was a bad idea to invest in ghost pepper and pumpkins to make profit during the event. It is no secret that you can make a lot of money by abusing short-sighted players (just think of the black lion chests).

Every recipe was permanent for Halloween and I don't see why they wouldn't be here too.

Just take a look at the chocalate bars, heavy speculation already going on there:

http://www.gw2spidy.com/item/12229

When i take a look at the ingredients, i think cinnamon sticks are a pretty promising opportunity to invest in. They are the second most offered good in the auction house, the price is as low as possible (3 copper) and there is no useful recipe that uses them. If Anet introduces some new recipes that use some already available ingredients, i really would bet on cinnamon.

I think a bigger part of that is the nerf to drop rates at halloween so that chocolate bars only drop from loot bags under lvl 50. The cheap stock (under 20c) has been steadily decreasing in quantity ever since, and once that was fully depleted last week, the price really started to take off. Look at butter too. It had the same nerf applied and 700k of the cheap stock has been burned through in past past 3 weeks, with another 700k to go until the price can really start to take off similar to chocolate.

e: i think some ppl owe me a like

While we're on the topic of speculation, another key ingredient that will likely be used are Eggs.

Eggnog has always been around during Wintersday, so maybe this time around, we might have a vendor who'll take eggs in exchange for eggnog.

There's also the Thirst quencher achievement which will hopefully be more easily achievable with a high alcohol value eggnog.

Yeah, during halloween (before the huge cinnamon stix drop rate nerf), it rose well past these prices. Cinnamon is an even more popular spice during christmas than it is during halloween, and it seems to be the only ingredient left to invest in.

Update: LOL! just look at the cinnamon stix on the trading post. You can visually see the number available just plummeting. Really wish I didn't just spend all my money on crafting alts :(.

Supply decreases ofc, thats what he said.

looks like cinnamon sticks are really the ingredient one should invest in. There are really huge stacks with 500k and 1Mio on 6 and 7 copper, but when the trend continues past these the price will probably rise pretty fast. I will try to save the last stacks for 7, if it does.

Walnuts just skyrocketed...
Everyone is speculating about Cinnamon or Mint Leafs like they did with Pumpkins at Halloween.

Indeed i think they will add something like Candy Corn for Wintersday.
Only thing thats pretty sure is that there will be Skins again.. prob. dropped by BLC again?

Surely there will be candy cane trees in which you chop to receive candy cane shards. Some of these materials may be used, but the people "speculating" and making these threads/posting about it aren't really investing for Wintersday. They're trying to get the prices to spike so they can make a quick turn around in profits.

Yea I heard the snowman will be like a pet you can summon. He'll throw out random boons every 5 seconds and debuff conditions whilst following you. I have heard this on good authority! Carrots will be the essential ingrediant to buy because snow will be readily available from snow nodes placed all over tyria! Also brush up on your tailoring skillz because snowmen will require scarfs but silk scraps are readily available and plentiful. /lol
