So I am new to GW2, and I enjoy it. My question is how does one "properly" move? Just looking for a decent introduction to this mechanic. I didn't see a guide for movement during combat or dodging specific for GW2 since it is a mechanic unique to it.

Not sure what you are asking, dodging is for all classes... You dodge when an enemy attacks. You got 2 dodges generally until your endurance is up. Engineer got an elixir to replenish it and of course traits to improve regen. Bind it to a mouse thumb key for best performance IMO, remove that icky double-tap movement key option.

Judging purely by OP, this is the wrong forum. Simply because you play an engineer doesn't make the topic of movement and dodging profession specific. Either that or your question is poorly worded and you indeed meant to ask a question suited to the Engineer specifically.
Can't really reply until we know what you truely mean?
