You may just not enjoy the Elementalist gameplay.

Personnally, i stop my Ranger at level 55 because i just found it boring. It doesn't mean that the Ranger profession is boring, i'm just not happy with it right not.

The same thing happen to my friend with the Warrior.

You know what. There are 7 others profession out there and you'll find probably more than 1 that will fit you like a glove. ; )

Not everyone is going to like every profession. If you tried one, didn't like it, then try another. Hopefully you find one you do enjoy.

Also, remember, if you didn't progress very far, there is a world of difference between a low level character, and one who has unlocked all their ability slots and earned enough skill points have a good selection of skills. I've found that most professions really don't start picking up till around the low 20's, at the 40's is when they really start to shine.

Try spending 10 trait points in Arcana followed by maxing out water, then use dagger/dagger for leveling. Cycle through the 2, 4 and 5 in fire, 2 and 5 in earth, 2 and 3 in air and stay in air for #1 auto attack, remember to go into water every chance you get for 2, 3, 4, and 5 as well as regen + heal + condition removal, and throw out your two stuns/knockdown periodically and use fire 3, air 4 and earth 3 for gap closers. Voila. You still kill things pretty fast, you'll be a lot more tanky, and if things turn out to be bad then use fire 3 or better yet deselect target + face away + lightning 4 is always a great option. Get a few sigil of major might (not superior since you're leveling up anyways and weapons will go into the trash can every few levels) and you'd be unstoppable.

If you've tried that and still don't like it, well yeah. Elementalist is one of the harder things to level up, I've went through them all and the only profession that elementalist can beat in leveling is perhaps mesmer. Sometimes it's frustrating, I know this because repeated death in my own personal story is just ridiculous. However, as with most stress-causing things, it's all about adjusting your mental attitude to enjoy the things that the profession can offer rather than focusing on the things that the profession is admittedly not the greatest at. :)

i find it "harder" because it takes more concentration to be effective not die as an Ele... with my alt guardian i can almost just autoattack myself out of any situation, it makes those long fights with i.e. dungeon trash with insane HP much more bearable... I use a staff Ele so thats probably even worse as most decent skill needs to be aimed, while i do decent damage AOE wise, my guardian isnt too far behind with hammer/GS

sometimes when im not feeling like playing Ele to its full extent i'll just switch to my alt, auto attack and own... or the alternative which is to use Ele in one attunment, use autoattack, and be bad lol

I gave up on my Elementalist at level 30, switched to my underleveled Mesmer and have never looked back. I do think it requires quite a bit of skill to play an Ele and that most players lack the finesse (watch the elementalists you party with and see how many of them are constantly switching attunements, it's depressing). Nevertheless it does not seem to me that this increased skill ceiling truly pays off in any major way in comparison with say the Mesmer. I do not really regret leaving my Elementalist on the shelf because I find the Mesmer more rewarding and interesting to play. People attacking the original poster are replying with anecdotes about how awesome their class is and so on, which strongly reminds me of people in the original Guild Wars insisting that using Beastmastery specced Rangers was definitely viable in PvE or that Mesmers could compete with other classes in PvE before they introduced the PvE-only skills. They weren't and they couldn't. Just because you can make it work does not mean it's as viable as other classes. I think people need to keep some perspective, try to be more objective and relax a bit more.
