I love the idea of great sword on the ranger however i hear a lot about how their not really the best weapon considering the 1h sword gives better DPS and utility, has great swords been buffed or fixed to become a viable weapon to use in the dungeons and end game?

It'd a solid weapon and is good for a tank build, but no melee weapon beats out a shortbow.  And yes, the 1h sword still outdamages it.

The greatsword is great, but it's not one of our more offensive weapons.

Compare it to the Guardian's 1h Mace.  Is there anything wrong with it?  No, but people like to see large numbers, so weapons that are slightly more defensively oriented tend to be pushed aside.

I've read a ton of topics on ranger weapons and builds, and I'm sure I could do more damage if I changed my play style. But I've been fairing just fine with my longbow/greatsword combo and I really enjoy the play style.

The greatsword may not have the raw numbers, but when a group closes in on you, the wide arc slash of the greatsword takes them out right quick. I wouldn't have known that greatsword was bugged (or just a poor choice) from playing it. It seems to do it's job very well.

The greatest benefit of the GS is the wide attack arc imho. I really shouldn't have rolled GS Warrior back when I started, I am way too used to AoEing like boss with my regular autoattack.

1H sword on the other hand...
