Hi there,

I've tried a lot fo professions since the beta weekend and well I tried all but engineer and Ranger...

My problem right now is that I really crave some fluffy assed bears

And ranger seem cool and they are useful in parties...but are they good...

My main is a thief....in PvE, although I play a glass-cannon build the variety of skills/traits/etc. allows me to dodge or block...or stall something long enough until I am out of it's range. So it's sort of a compensation...

My question is : Are Rangers any good in PvE outside support?...Some of the rangers I have seen seem rather...weak.  Of course there were good rangers too but can you solo something well enough?

I know they are fun...but entertainment seems to dissapear when you become frustrated about the fact that you can't get a vista because of the monsters or something like that..

Short answer: Yes, they are just as capable as any other profession.

But don't take my word for it, make a ranger, try it, and if you don't like it, you can always just delete the character.

So far I can solo everything except Champion Creatures I just cannot do enough damage to take them down.

Ordinary mobs and Veteran creatures are no problem.

There have only been two champion fights that I have had to run from become I was unable to outrace DPS. Traiting heavy into BM is a sure bet to wipe the floor with most champions (some I have even beaten without pet swapping). I usually end most Champ fights near full health because I can out heal/ mitigate them into the ground.

I would urge you to try the ranger. My best solution is to use your pets as partners and not fire and forget weapons. The more you utilize and synergize your play with your pets the better and more effective your ranger will be.

Thinking about it I am not sure I have taken on a champion solo for a while maybe not since I put 30 points into beastmastery.
Time to go beat a few up and see what happens.

You can even solo certain champs with good pet management, big fan of ranger in pve.
