Seems like we'll get a big content patch on January/February

Ok yes, the one time events did affect me negatively, as i hardly have time to play over weekends.
And yes, the additions to gear has made me weary about the vertical progression idea.. But i will say after looking into the issue alot iv been reassured that there wont be anymore tiers and that progression shouldnt take any further massive leaps upwards..
And yea, the lostshores is completely dead atm...
And yea, it annoys me that some things have been left broken or bugged.....
However saying all that, alot of things have been changed for the better since release, alot of things beginning to take shape and showing real potential for the game, the pre cursor issue and sPvP. Im pretty sure the devs know that wvw needs some attention aswell... Which i expect will be at least jan or febs updates main focus.
From everything Anet has said they have made it clear they are trying to show everything equal attention, including in game events and activities on all maps. That means the lostshores aswell. I can see multiple one time events going off in the future aswell, introducing new settlements and events in different maps that will remain. Multiple things happening in the world would certainly reduce map load when these events are happening, and hopefully cut down on the next events DC issues.
The problem is that Anet have created a different beast to many MMOs, and while they have included a fair amount of content at launch to show off the unique features and mechanics the game has, alot of luxuries MMO players are used to with games that have been running as long as 6+ years are missing or bugged.
For the amount of time the game has been released it has already see many build versions, balance changes, bugfixes, feature additions, new events, a new pvp map, 7 mini dungeons [fractals], new jumping puzzles, a new pve map, sPvP additions, holiday and one time events, new crafting recipes, new gear both cosmetic and progressive, new activities both one time and permament, reward balance AND prob more stuff i cant pull from the top of my head. For 3 months worth of updates I cannot wait to see the game in year or twos time.
Now i hate to do the whole comparison thing but i wonder how much content came out within 3 months in the first year of WoW? Bearing in mind that content would have cost players around 90+ dollars to play through.

Most likely won't happen. Since that would require a complete revamp of the whole skill system and go against the whole point with the weapon-system.

Just give us a 30 boss gauntlet dungeon that gives 2 Anything Tokens per boss slain and call it a day.

To me the Lost Shores island was a large flop for the most part, it has the same issues present in the current end level overworld content: bugged and uninteresting events and no reason to do them. That comes from someone who thoroughly enjoyed the overworld pve content up until they started to bug out.
Profession bugs and event bugs really are their biggest offenders and I wish they'd devote more man-hours to fixing them. WvW can only get fixed if zergs are discouraged, but at the same time small groups or individuals can't completely overturn hours of work through use of "mechanics". Nothing is more annoying than a couple of thieves funneling in one by one, running in stealth preventing a side from capping something they won for well over a few minutes. In no means is that really "creative use of mechanics" or fair, just plainly abusive.
WoW had a pretty fair solution to conquest type mechanics such as this: If you can't be seen or attacked then you don't count.
Another important thing that they keep overlooking with every passing month is build diversification. There are some abilities or weapons that are just plainly undertuned, or lack traits to properly support them. Diversity is the spice of life, it's already pretty cheap to switch builds, but if there is a lack of builds to switch to then people get bored. Some people have little to no interesting in other professions, so alts don't appeal to them, or builds of certain professions are too broken to appeal to them. Expanding build diversity would help greatly in this matter. One example would be to fix the bleed cap issue that's screwing over dot type builds. No real solid reason can be put forth to explain why the bleed cap is so aggressive to limiting dot damage, which already inside itself is aggressive towards how it scales and ceilings.

Oh I've never forgotten the problems WoW had at launch. If Vanilla WoW was launched today as it was in November of '04 it wouldn't have lasted till the spring of '05. Even simply forgetting about the bugs, most of the content promised to be released shortly after release for Vanilla WoW hasn't even been developed or released yet. Nearly 10 years after the game has been released, most of the things you put on your box saying would be in the game are still not in the game, protected by a greedy EULA, that is the definition of bad. Such practice is also pretty much the new game Blizzard plays with every product they release now. They'll promise you everything you'd expect from a decent or good game, then release the game with less than a 1/10th of the promised material, tell you it'll be patched in later, then never patch it in. I really wish more people would just come to realize that and stop buying their games. Because that practice is poisoning the industry, giving developers and publishers alike the example of promising what they can't deliver to make sales.

I do love getting new content, but it's frustrating how old content is so hard to experience with bugs. And by the time they'll get fixed (IF they get fixed), no one will care anymore because it'll be so outdated everyone's focused on the new stuff anyway.

I doubt it. It'd be more likely that we'll get some more Tyria maps, maybe some dragon hunting.
I can't say I'm not excited. The Lost Shores update was pretty sweet, even though I found the Karka to be sort of added the last minute and the one time events to be horrible. If these updates were to be even bigger I think we'd be in for a treat

Don't be silly! WoW had 3 expansions and hardly any bugs at all when it came out! Pfft, honestly... some people, eh?
On a serious note, they have pumped out a lot of content. I hope they can fix the Lost Shores content eventually, but in the meantime I hope that they know what to do with this next content update in regards to keeping it going, rather than having it as a weekend event and leaving it to die.

Who cares? Having a lot of content doesn't matter. It's having enough content that's fun, entertaining, goes with the story you are trying to tell, and isn't full of game breaking bugs. Right now? GW2 hasn't really delivered a whole lot of the good kind of content. I don't really care how often it happens either. I've waited a year for major content before. I just want the content to actually be good...silly I'm sure.

Jon Sharp stated in the 'State of the game:pvp interview' that the monthly updates starting in January will be themed. He went on explaining that one would be mainly pvp (spvp AND wvw) themed and so on.
This indicates to me that the main focus won't be one-time events (festivities, etc.) anymore but more "relaxed" content (= not just time-framed content).
They also stated that they're planning to have events that arent just one-time but happen over the course of the months and thus changing the story/world.

"one of the things I thought was really unique in the MMORPG genre was the way choices and consequences are shown to the player."
I was like... what? Did we even play the same game? I mean the choices I was presented with had little to no effect in the grand scheme of things at all, and it felt extremely "railroaded" with zero character development among the whole cast. (No Trahearne, you don't count. At all.)

Still excited. Hope we get the next wave of ascended stuff.

within that first 4 months we got:
- the rakghoul world event that lasted 3 weeks (after the extension) which offered many rewards such as the mini rakghling and the black/green crystals
- one of the best UI customizations in the genre
- by 1.3 we had two new raids
- a new pvp map/gametype
- and two new flashpoints.
- numerous hotfixes to bugs and game breaking issues
- legacy upgrades such as family trees and legacy unlocked things like emotes, companion emotes, skills, etc
- server mergers
- cross faction mail
so when i log into GW2, and i see that this "huge amount of free content" is:
- a buggy halloween event that lasted one week
- a multi level dungeon that essentially shattered the community,
- addition of higher tiered gear that further shattered the community
and what else? what else am i missing? there's gotta be a little more right?
the FotM shattered the community. we've got people who wont run anything lower than what their little group is on which effectively alienates the rest of us. the ascended gear has become a rather uproar. bug fixes still havent happened, i mean. . .
so yes swtor did charge a sub fee, so you can say that stuff shouldve been included, but let's be honest, even for a sub game, that's a lot of bang for your 50 cents a day.
what im trying to say, is there are some of you that really think ANet is overwhelming us with all this free stuff, when all i see is them trying to rationalize the inevitable "you knew paid content was coming".
im enjoying GW2 a lot, i think its the best game on the market, for its market (its market not being those that dont mind a sub based mmorpg) but i can honestly say i am not impressed with this "generously huge" amount of content we've gotten for free. personally i couldve done with out what we've gotten already. GW2 is a lot of game for your 60 bucks and i wouldve them have waited until janurary and really releasing a huge content pack for free, that wouldve impressed me.

Would be nice to get some PvE content that isn't pretty much only for people doing dungeons to be honest.
I mean sure they added a new zone... with basically nothing in it, that no one bothers to go to outside of farming the Ori nodes... with really annoying high hp, high damage mobs that drop rubbish, and hardly any events.
And on top of that the whole 'ascended items only for people who do dungeons' currently, BS.
If you like running dungeons, I think you've already done pretty well with the last content patch.
I've just ended up back in WvW again since that patch, as it offers almost nothing from a PvE angle if you don't want to run FoTM.
I mean, even if they'd run a mini version of the invasion event each weekend for a few months with an exotic chest at the end, that would at least have given people some reason to revisit the zone...

A large map with a series of quests/events that all give rewards and can be completed in any order with a bonus encounter for finishing them all in one session. Maybe an end boss encounter like dhuum was in the updated uw.
Maybe also start awarding more skins/crafting recipes as drops and from collectors rather than more throwing stacks of items into the forge. A larger variety of skin aquesitions instead of offering boosted stats on grind to get items.
