I've never had posts deleted by a moderator on another forum before, and I have used forums for years with thousands of posts.

At the official gw2 forums, I have had somewhere between 8-10 posts deleted in about 200 posts.  And the reasons given are such unbelievable stretches of the rules, which are already rigorous.

For example a while back I asked if commendations were going to end after Lost Shores.  The topic was "Anet please answer:  commendations"

Infracted for using "arenanet" in the title.  I had to laugh.

Today I was infracted for answering a person's question about what to do with quest items from lost shores.  The OP asked for a quote to back it up, so I gave them the quote of the dev post.  My first message was infracted for spreading falsehoods, but the link to the dev post wasn't (because it never was false!).

A follow up message was infracted.

A message in What is the best profession was infracted despite it being simply answering the OP's question, because it didn't "provide any meaningful contribution to the topic at hand". ?!?  What was I supposed to answer with?

And another message today was simply deleted with no notification given.

I'm thinking a moderator is not a fan of me or something.

I have to say, those people represent ArenaNet and if that is how they treat me, it strongly discourages me from supporting them.

Is this isolated to just me or am I not crazy and they are crazy about controlling what is said?

I havn't been on GW2 official forums in at least 2 months. But from what you are describing.. Reminds me of Diablo 3 forums.

i started a thread asking why people still used this forum because the official ones launched when the game did and general consensus was that the official forums are a waste of time.

The moderators there are a bit crazy. I would suggest sticking with Guru if you want to speak your mind. The absolute best to "speak your mind" would be mmochampion imo. You can say just about anything you want as long as you are not using derogatory names or trolling. Mmo champion's gw2 subforum is actually quite dead now, so that really isn't a good place... just stick with guru. haha.

I refuse to use the official forums for just this reason.  The moderators on there are completely out of touch with reality and lack any common-sense whatsoever.  Given the fact that they're supposed to be the official forums for game that people paid money for and that was rushed out and released in an unfinished state, it's pretty sad state of affairs that people feel the need to steer clear.

i use the official forums coz i know that a.net staff can see it. but this fascism happening there is ridiculous. i got suspended 6 times already there. now, out of suspension.

Anet controls the official forum like a dictator. It is idiotic.

Its interesting to see how social media has evolved in an ever larger role of importance in maintaining brand image.

It's even more interesting to see the draconian measures implemented in order to control social media to protect that brand.

But even guru does it, hence why Curse Premium can eat it.  Its an ever lowering bar of oppression.

We know how Arenanet is about controlling what people say and do. I mean look back to when the game launched, how many people were banned because they had names Anet didn't like? (even if they were hilarious)

Hehe the official forums are pretty stupid indeed when it comes down to that.

makes me wonder what is up with their mods.

But i guess if my job was to go over messages 8 hrs a day on a forum page i would also go insane.

I've never even logged in the official forums and only looked at them once; anything I ever needed to know/discuss I can find here or in-game.  Partially because of the heavy moderation... but mostly because the official forums are ugly as shit.

Yeah, they're that insane. Guru mods are kittens compared to those mods over at the official forums.

I usually try to stay away from official forums, on any MMO, for several reasons.

1)  The official forums are usually crap.  They try to build it from scratch to make it blend in with the site, but it ends up feeling clunky and out of balance.
2)  The psychos.  You know, the people that are too hard core about anything, the kind that call all casuals noobs, even though they may or may not be newbs (noob does not equal newb)
3)  Mods tend to be far more strict than unofficial forums simply because they're actually paid to keep it under control.  If they do a lousy job, it's their job on the line.

Yea, I've had numerous posts on the official forums be deleted for no real reason either, never been infracted there though.
Still, their uneeded moderation overdoing drove me to stop posting entirely there. I only use it now a days to check on news and the like, while doing all my talking about the game here when I'm not in-game.

If I have to be afraid of my post being deleted every time I post on a forum, I feel its not worth it to post there when we have other forums like guru.

I would recommend that you read the rules for the official forum. I only skimmed them back before the game launched but I remember quite clearly that threads addressed to A-Net were against the rules.

You don't mention what your post was in the 'best profession' topic. Did your post provide a reason for your opinion? I know A-Net doesn't want 'Me too,' '+1,' and 'Just because' type posts. I've seen a lot of people say they got infracted for this.

When the official forum first launched, I thought I would stay with Guru because of the heavy official moderation. But honestly, the official forums are now better for players who actually enjoy the game. Guru has become the gathering spot for those who are discontent with A-Net's direction. I think it's good that these players have somewhere to discuss their frustrations but it's been awhile since I last enjoyed reading a thread here.

First time I've ever been compared to a kitten, got to say. Usually it's Nazi/Socialist/Fascist powermongering basement dweller who loves/hates ArenaNet. And those are just the usual things.

Anyway, every forum has a right to moderate the way they see fit, if you have an issue with it, you take it up with them. If you don't like a forum, simply pick up and move along.
